  • In this paper, a novel neural network compensation technique for PD like fuzzy controlled robot manipulators is presented. A standard PD-like fuzzy controller is designed and used as a main controller for controlling robot manipulators. A neural network controller is added to the reference trajectories to modify input error space so that the system is robust to any change in system parameter variations. It forms a neural-fuzzy control structure and used to compensate for nonlinear effects. The ultimate goal is same as that of the neuro-fuzzy control structure, but this proposed technique modifies the input error not the fuzzy rules. The proposed scheme is tested to control the position of the 3 degrees-of-freedom rotary robot manipulator. Performances are compared with that of other neural network control structure known as the feedback error learning structure that compensates at the control input level.

  • In this paper, we present an observer-based robust controller which achieves not only robust stability but also an performance robustness for linear uncertain discrete-time systems. The performance robustness means that comparing the transient behavior of the uncertain system with a desired one generated by the nominal system, the deterioration of control performance (i.e. the error between the real response and the desired one) is suppressed without excessive control input. The control law consists of a state feedback law for the nominal system and a compensation input given by a feedback form of an estimated error signal. In this paper, we show that conditions for the existence of the observer-based controller are given in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the proposed technique.

  • A heave motion of the offshore crane system with load is affected by unpredictable external factors. Therefore the offshore crane must satisfy rigorous requirements in terms of safety and efficiency. This paper intends to reduce the heave displacement of load position which is produced by rope extension and sea wave disturbance in vertical motion. In this system, the load position is compensated by the winch actuator control. The rope is modeled as a mass-damper-spring system, and a controller is designed by the input-output linearization method. The model system and the proposed control method are evaluated on the simulation results.

  • A conventional UPS can supply the clean power to the load. However, it may generate input current harmonics and the input power factor can be very poor. Therefore, the UPS itself may be a power interruption. This paper provides multifunctional converter of using single phase UPS. The proposed UPS can supply the clean power to the load without polluting the mains power system. The multi-functional converter provides battery charging, var compensation and harmonic suppression simultaneously. It was simulated to verify this work.

  • In order to reject the steady-state tracking error, it is common to introduce integral compensators in servosystems for constant reference signals. However, if the mathematical model of the plant is exact and no disturbance input exists, the integral compensation is not necessary. From this point of view, a two-degree-of-freedom(2DOF) servosystem has been proposed, in which integral compensation is effective only when there is modeling error for disturbance input. The present paper considers the design problem of 2DOF servosystem incorporating an observer. It is shown that if a state feedback gain and a observer gain satisfy a condition, the integral effect does not appear when modeling error or disturbance input exists. This result means that the servosystem does not behave as a 2DOF servosystem.

  • One objective in developing the next generation of wireless communication systems is to increase data rates and reliability. A promising way to achieve this is to combine multiple-input and multiple-output signal processing with a space-time coding scheme, which offers higher coding and diversity gains and improves the spectrum efficiency and reliability of a wireless communication system. It is noted, however, that time delay differences and phase differences among different channels increase symbol interference and degrade system performance. In this letter, we investigate phase differences and their effects on multiple-input and multiple-output systems, and propose a compensation algorithm for the Rayleigh fading model to minimize their effects.

  • Mathematical modeling of focal plane compensation device in the small earth-observation satellite camera has been conducted experimently for compensation of micro-vibration disturbance. The PZT actuators are used as control actuators for compensation device. It is quite difficult to build up mathematical model because of hysteresis characteristic of PZT actuators. Therefore, the compensation device system is assumed as a $2^{nd}$ order linear system and modeled by using MATLAB System Identification Toolbox. It has been found that four linear models of compensation device are needed to meet 10% error in the input frequency range of 0~50Hz. These models describe accurately the dynamics of compensation device in the 4 divided domains of the input frequency range of 0~50Hz, respectively. Micro-vibration disturbance can be compensated by feedback control strategy of switching four models appropriately according to the input frequency.

  • A step-down DC-DC converter with On-chip Compensation for battery-operated portable electronic devices which are designed in 0.18um CMOS standard process. In an effort to improve low load efficiency, this paper proposes the PFM (Pulse Frequency modulation) voltage mode 1MHz switching frequency step-down DC-DC converter with on-chip compensation. Capacitor multiplier method can minimize error amplifier compensation block size by 20%. It allows the compensation block of DC-DC converter be easily integrated on a chip and occupy less layout area. But capacitor multiplier operation reduces DC-DC converter efficiency. As a result, this converter shows maximum efficiency over 87% for the output voltage of 1.8V (input voltage : 3.3V), maximum load current 500mA, and 0.14% output ripple voltage. The total core chip area is $mm^2$.

  • In this paper, a new current controller with the compensation of an unbalance and distorted grid voltages has been proposed. Generally, in the three-phase power system, single phase or nonlinear loads can be connected with the 3 phase linear load simultaneously on the same point of common coupling. Therefore, The source voltage unbalance and distortion problem can be occurred. Under these unbalance and distorted grid voltage conditions, the input current of 3 phase PWM rectifiers also have unbalance and distortion. In this paper, a current controller with the simple Model Reference Adaptive System based unbalance and distorted voltages observer is proposed to get a sinusoidal input current. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified through the simulation and the experiment.

  • This paper proposes the compensation method which decreases the radiation pattern distortion caused by the mutual coupling in an array antenna. If the element distance of an array antenna decreases, the radiation pattern could be distorted by the strong mutual coupling, which changes the magnitude and phase of input signals and causes an unwanted radiation pattern. To remove the pattern distortion, compensated input signals are inserted in an array antenna. The magnitude and phase of input signals are determined by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. A $4{\times}1$ dipole array antenna with omnidirectional elements is used to confirm the validity of the algorithm, where each element is placed in 0.2 wavelength to evoke the strong coupling. After input signals are optimized by PSO, it is found that the compensated radiation results in the same as the ideal case.
