Segmenting the compartments of neurons, such as axons, dendrites, and cell bodies, is helpful in the analysis of neurological phenomena. Recently, there have been several studies to segment the compartments through deep learning. However, this approach has the potential to include errors in the results due to noise in data and differences between training data and actual data. Therefore, in order to use these for actual analysis, it is essential to proofread the results. The proofreading process requires a lot of effort and time because an expert must perform it manually. We propose an interactive neuron structure proofreading method that can more easily correct errors in the segmentation results of a deep learning. This method proofread the neuron structure based on the characteristics of the neuron with structural consistency, so that a high-accuracy proofreading result can be obtained with less interaction.

The importance of forests and trees in climate change mitigation and soil nutrient cycling cannot be overemphasized. This study assessed the above-ground carbon stock of two exotic and two indigenous tree species - Gmelina arborea, Tectona grandis, Khaya grandifoliola and Nauclea diderrichii and their litter impact on soil nutrient content of an arboretum within the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Data were collected from equal sample plots from the four species' compartments. Tree growth variables including total height, diameter at breast height, crown height, crown diameter and merchantable height were measured for the estimation of above-ground carbon stock. Soil samples were collected from a depth of 0-30 cm from each compartment and analyzed for particle size distribution, organic carbon, total nitrogen, available phosphorus, exchangeable bases, exchangeable acidity, cation exchange capacity, base saturation, pH, Manganese, Iron, Copper and Zinc. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to test for significant difference (p<0.05) in the carbon contents of the four species and the soil nutrient contents of the different species' compartments. Pearson correlation was used to assess the relationships between the carbon contents, growth parameters and soil parameters. The highest and lowest carbon stock per hectare was observed for G. arborea (151.52 t.ha-1) and K. grandifoliola (45.45 t.ha-1) respectively. Cation exchange capacity and base saturation were highest and lowest for soil under G. arborea and K. grandifoliola respectively. The pH was highest and lowest for soil under G. arborea and T. grandis respectively. Carbon stock correlated positively with dbh, crown diameter, merchantable height and Zn and negatively with base saturation. The study revealed that G. arborea and N. diderrichii can effectively be used for reforestation and afforestation programmes aimed at climate change mitigation across Nigeria. Therefore, policies to encourage and enhance their planting should be encouraged.
A stochastic method using continuous time Markov process is presented to model the one-dimensional convective nuclide transport in geologic media, which have usually heterogeneous feature in physical/geochemical parameters such as velocity, dispersion coefficient, and retardation factor resulting poor description by conventional deterministic advection-dispersion model. The primary desired quantities from a stochastic model are the mean values and variance of the state variables as a function of time. The time-dependent probability distributions of nuclides are presented for each discretized compartment given the volumetric groundwater flux and the intensity of transition. Since this model is discrete in medium space, physical/geochemical parameters which affect nuclide transport can be easily incorporated for the heterogeneous media as well as remarkably layered media having spatially varied parameters. Even though the Markov process model developed in this study was shown to be sensitive to the number of discretized compartments showing numerical dispersion as the number of compartments are increased, this could be easily calibrated by comparing with the analytical deterministic model.
Liver cancer, particularly hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), poses a significant global threat to human lives. To advance the development of innovative diagnostic and treatment approaches, it is essential to examine the hidden features of HCC, particularly its 3D genome architecture, which is not well understood. In this study, we investigated the 3D genome organization of four HCC cell lines-Hep3B, Huh1, Huh7, and SNU449-using in situ Hi-C and assay for transposase-accessible chromatin sequencing. Our findings revealed that HCC cell lines had more long-range interactions, both intra-and interchromosomal, compared to human mammary epithelial cells (HMECs). Unexpectedly, HCC cell lines displayed cell line-specific compartmental modifications at the megabase (Mb) scale, which could potentially be leveraged in determining HCC subtypes. At the sub-Mb scale, we observed decreases in intra-TAD (topologically associated domain) interactions and chromatin loops in HCC cell lines compared to HMECs. Lastly, we discovered a correlation between gene expression and the 3D chromatin architecture of SLC8A1, which encodes a sodium-calcium antiporter whose modulation is known to induce apoptosis by comparison between HCC cell lines and HMECs. Our findings suggest that HCC cell lines have a distinct 3D genome organization that is different from those of normal and other cancer cells based on the analysis of compartments, TADs, and chromatin loops. Overall, we take this as evidence that genome organization plays a crucial role in cancer phenotype determination. Further exploration of epigenetics in HCC will help us to better understand specific gene regulation mechanisms and uncover novel targets for cancer treatment.

Masseter are commonly botulinum neurotoxin targeted muscle for facial contouring in aesthetic field. However, paradoxical masseteric bulging is common adverse effect that has not been discussed with ultrasonographic observations. Retrospective study has been conducted from October, 2021 to January, 2023, out of 324 patients have done blinded botulinum neurotoxin injection in the masseter at the middle and lower portion of the masseter with each side of 25 units (letibotulinum neurotoxin type A), 3 patients demonstrated paradoxical masseteric bulging has been reported and the image observed by ultrasonography by physician. Based on the observations made, we can infer that the function of the moving muscle involves twisting of the muscle fibers during contraction, along with the twisting of the deep inferior tendon, which causes the muscle to be divided into anterior and posterior compartments rather than into superficial and deep compartments of masseter. In ultrasonographic observe the skin surface of a patient with paradoxical masseteric bulging, it is observable that either the anterior or posterior part contracts significantly. The functional units of anterior and posterior compartment are observable as muscular contraction of inward movement of the muscle from either the anterior or posterior functional unit.
We consider a model of HIV infection with various compartments, including target cells, infected cells, viral loads and immune effector cells, to describe HIV type 1 infection. We show that the proposed model has one uninfected steady state and several infected steady states and investigate their local stability by using a Jacobian matrix method. We obtain equations for adjoint variables and characterize an optimal control by applying Pontryagin's Maximum Principle in a linear control problem. In addition, we apply techniques and ideas from linear optimal control theory in conjunction with a direct search approach to derive on-off HIV therapy strategies. The results of numerical simulations indicate that hybrid on-off therapy protocols can move the model system to a "healthy" steady state in which the immune response is dominant in controlling HIV after the discontinuation of the therapy.
Acoustic modes of a vehicle compartment dominate the noise characteristics of the vehicle system in the low frequency range. Vehicle compartments have head liner and air gap of proper thickness to mount a interior lamp, as well as to have a good sound insulation and absorption performance. This study estimates the acoustic modal property of the medium size passenger car by experiment and by finite element analysis and also, investigates the effect of the head liner on the acoustic mode of the passenger compartment to obtain useful information for low noise compartment design.

Batch experiments were conducted to investigate the sorption and desorption behaviors of PAHs (naphthalene, phenanthrene and pyrene) in soils. Three different soils montmorillonite KSF (foc =0.14%), masato (foc =0.08%), and diatomite (foc =0.007%) were investigated. The results of sorption-desorption experiment indicate that the sorption affinity of PAHs was in the order of montmorillonite > masato > diatomite. The Freundlich model was well fitted to the sorption and desorption data. Sorption affinity increased as loc increased. Desorption of PAHs from soils was biphasic composed of reversible and irreversible compartments. Desorption-resistance of phenanthrene in soils was also determined. The biphasic desorption model was used to explain desorption-resistance of phenanthrene in soils. The linear term represents reversible sorption fraction and Langmuinian-type term represents desorption-resistant fraction.
This paper introduces an approach to identify the total energy consumption with subsequent $CO_2$ emissions, for both industrial and non-industrial sectors. Statistical data for 2005 were compiled in a national account system to construct an energy input-output table for investigating the influence between energy demand and supply activities. The methodological approach was applied to South Korea. Twelve types of energy and fifteen industrial and non-industrial sectors are formed as the compartments of the input-output table. The results provided quantitative details of the energy consumption and identified the significant contributions from each sector. An impact analysis on the $CO_2$ emissions for the demand side was also conducted for comparison with the supply side.

For lighting of dark and hazardous workplaces such as compartments of ships under construction, workers should use hand lamps of explosion-proof type. However, the heavy weight of such lamps has prevented most impatient workers from using such types of lamps extensively. In this paper, ire developed a light weight hand lamp of intrinsic safety type which reduced the weight a lot while maintaining or improving the lighting and explosion-proof function. We made a Prototype which consisted of lamp fixture and low/high frequency power supply. Testing results show that the hand lamp meets well all the explosion-proof testing requirements of the Korea Industrial Safety Corporation.
