In this study, a method that can objectively and systematically design the layout of user interface components was developed. In order to explain its application method, the method was applied to the layout design of facsimile. In particular, in order to validate the suitability of the method, comparison tests were performed for the case of facsimile. Computer simulators for layout design were made using Micromedia Flash and comparison evaluation for an existing layout and a new layout was performed in three aspects. The first comparison method was to measure and compare its movement distance when carrying out a task in two layout models. The second one was to measure and compare users' performance. The last one was to measure and compare users' subjective satisfaction after using two models. As the result, new layout design was better than the existing design in all comparison tests. The movement distance of the new layout design model was shorter than the existing model. And, its performance including task completion time and error frequency was better and users' satisfaction was higher than the existing. In conclusion, the method that was developed in this study can be very effectively used in the layout design of user interface components.

It is difficult to change or remedy concrete structure after hardened. It is usual to evaluate the quality of hardened concrete using several test method. This study was performed to make fundamental data that could be used to evaluate the quality of hardened concrete. This study is to estimate mix proportion of hardened concrete. Each elements of concrete needed different estimation methods. First, the cement that handled by the most important compounds measured by XRF(X-ray fluorecence) machine with scanning Ca-K${\alpha}$. Second, the coarse aggregate that divided by maximum size measured by the area comparison method that starts from the assumption of uniform distribution. Third, the fine aggregate measured by the weight comparison method that needs several prerequsite constants which concerned cement hydration reaction. Fourth, the water content would be estimated by expert system that has data base of design data, the contents of above estimation results, the characteristics of concrete strength. As the result of the above research, some conclusions are as follows. The cement estimation method resulted by reliability of mean 96.7%, standard deviation 3.92. The area comparison method resulted by reliability of mean 95.3%, standard deviation 2.08. The weight comparison method resulted by reliability of mean 93.3%, standard deviation 3.35.

In this paper, a new pitch extraction method, the area comparison method, is proposed. By the speech production model, the area of the first peak on a pitch interval of speech signals is emphasized. By using the above characteristics, this method have more advantages than the others for pitch extraction. The defective decision caused by an impulsive noise is minimized and the pre-filtering is not necessary for this method, because the intergration of signals takes place in the process.

The current comparison methods with scoring systems that are used to compare visualized latent fingerprints (LF) have disadvantages. Evaluators using these methods are prone to make errors and fail to discriminate LFs correctly to notice the differences among those LFs. Therefore, a comparative and quantitative evaluation method that is capable of obtaining more objective and quantitative results is needed. Densitometric image analysis (DIA) is used in other fields as a reliable semi-quantitative comparison method. To apply DIA to LFs, the potential variables that can occur during the DIA process were tested. The visualized ridges of LFs can be compared using the concentration of dots against the background to make it possible to analyze the ridges with DIA. The variables that can be present during the DIA process include the thickness of the analysis line, the number of ridges to be taken, the number of divided zones within each of the fingerprints, and the angles of the analysis line against the ridge lines that were selected. From the analysis of the inked fingerprints and circular lines that are similar to fingerprints, the angle of the analysis lines with the ridge line was the most significant variable. The preliminary test result was applied to the comparison of LFs that were developed with the powder method and then compared with the AFIS analysis. A similar trend was found, and a more detailed and semi-quantitative comparison of the visualized LFs was possible. In the future, it is necessary to check the evaluative ability of the DIA method by analyzing the visualized LFs with other various development methods. However, DIA is currently an option that can be used as an objective comparative evaluation method during fingerprint studies with supplementary role.

As one of multi-class classification methods, ECOC (Error Correcting Output Coding) method is known to have low classification error rate. This paper aims at suggesting effective multi-class classification method (1) by comparing various encoding methods and decoding methods in ECOC method and (2) by comparing ECOC method and direct classification method. Both SVM (Support Vector Machine) and logistic regression model were used as binary classifiers in comparison.
In this paper, we present a preconditioned iterative method for solving linear systems Ax = b, where A is a Z-matrix. We give some comparison theorems to show that the rate of convergence of the new preconditioned iterative method is faster than the rate of convergence of the previous preconditioned iterative method. Finally, we give one numerical example to show that our results are true.

In this study, we suggested several approaches to evaluate the collision acceleration of a carbody under the article 16 of the Korean rolling stock safety regulations. There are various methods to evaluate the rigid body accelerations such as the displacement comparison method by double integration of filtered acceleration data, the velocity comparison method by direct integration of filtered acceleration data, and the analysis method of a velocity-time curve. We compared these methods one another using the 1D dynamic simulation model of Korean high-speed EMU composed of nonlinear springs or bars, dampers, and masses. From the simulation results, the velocity-time curve analysis method and the displacement comparison method are recommended to filter high frequency oscillations and evaluate the maximum and average accelerations of a carbody after a train collision.
By a SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) method, we get a map of an environment for autonomous navigation of a robot. In this case, we want to know how accurate the map is. Or we want to know which map is more accurate when different maps can be obtained by different SLAM methods. So, several methods for map comparison have been studied, but they have their own drawbacks. In this paper, we propose a new method which compares the accuracy or error of maps relatively and quantitatively. This method sets many corresponding points on both reference map and SLAM map, and computes the translational and rotational values of all corresponding points using least-squares solution. Analyzing the standard deviations of all translational and rotational values, we can know the error of two maps. This method can consider both local and global errors while other methods can deal with one of them, and this is verified by a series of simulations and real world experiments.
The method of pairwise comparison inherently contains information of ambiguity, fuzziness and conflict in design goals for a multiobjective structural design. This paper applies the principle of paired comparison so that the vaguely formulated problem can be modified and a set of numerically acceptable weight would reflect the relatively important degree of multiple objectives. This paper also presents a fuzzy global criterion method ($FGCM_{\lambda}$) included fuzzy constraints that coupled with the objective weighting rank obtained from the modified pairwise comparisons for fuzzy multiobjective optimization problems. Descriptions in sequence of this combined method and problem solving experiences are given in the current article. Multiobjective design examples of truss and mechanical spring structures illustrate this optimization process containing the revising judgement techniques.
In clinical settings, researchers often want to assess agreement between two measurements (or tests) of the same continuous variable. For example, when new point-of-care analyzer for testing blood glucose level were introduced clinicians need to compare results from standard or established laboratory method of measurement to those of new or point-of-care analyzer. The question in a method-comparison study would either of two different methods be used to measure the same variable equivalently. In this paper common misuse of statistical methodologies seen in the medical literatures such as correlation coefficient and paired t-test are discussed. The Bland-Altman technique has been widely used for this purpose and provides a graphic in presentation of the findings from a method-comparison study, with a mean value of measurement, this bias and the limits of agreement. For ease of application and interpretation of this technique we discussed the analysis procedure and illustrated with two worked examples. Finally, a number of alternative ways in which data can be analysed and reported in such studies were reviewed.
