  • This study investigated school mathematics curriculum of England, newly revised in 1998, focused on the 'number and algebra' domain among three major domains of the English curriculum. On the basis of its understanding, this domain was compared and analyzed with school mathematics curriculum of Korea. In doing so, this study explored its plans and procedures and established a frame of comparison for the curriculums between the two countries. The structure of the National Curriculum in England is composed of programmes of study and attainment targets. The former sets out what should be taught in mathematics at key stages 1, 2, 3, and 4 and provides the basis for planning schemes of work, and the latter sets out the knowledge, skills, and understanding that pupils of different abilities and matures are expected to have by the end of each key stage. Attainment targets are composed of eight levels and an additional level of increasing difficulty. According to the results of the present study, Korea focuses on the formal and systematic mathematical knowledge on the basis of sound understanding of certain mathematical terms or concepts. On the other hand, England tends to deal with numbers more flexibly and naturally through the aquisition of mental methods, calculator use methods, etc, and emphasizes that mathematics be realistic and useful in solving a diverse number of problems confronted in everyday life.

  • This study intends to compare the mathematics contents included in the mathematics curriculum of Korea, California in USA, England, and Japan. The result of this comparison is that there are big differences on ranges, depths, and grades between mathematics contents in four countries' mathematics curriculum. In Korea, more contents are dealt in earlier grade and to higher level than other countries. And, these features are revealed more apparently in the area of algebra, analysis, and geometry than probability and statistics.

  • Numerous studies have been performed to analyze various phenomena of human's walking, gait. In the present study, unrecognized walking and recognized walking were analyzed by three dimensional motion capture system(VICON motion system Ltd., England) and simulated by computer program. Two normal males participated in measuring the motion of unrecognized and recognized walking. Six infrared cameras and four force plates were used and sixteen reflective markers were attached to the subject to capture the motion. A musculoskeletal model was generated anatomically by using ADAMS(MSC software corp., USA) and LifeMOD(Biomechanics Research Group Inc, USA). The inverse dynamic simulation and forward dynamic simulation were also performed. The result of simulation was similar to the experimental result. This study provides the base line for dynamic simulation of the falling walking. It will be useful to simulate various another pathologic gaits for old peoples.

  • We have examined the relative contributions of representative space weather proxies (geomagnetic aa index) to global warming (Global temperature anomaly) and compared them with that of green house effect characterized CO2 content from 1868 to 2005. For this we used Hadcrut3 temperature anomaly (Ta) data, aa index taken at two anti-podal subauroral stations (Canberra Australia and hartland England), and the CO2 data come from historical ice core records. From the comparison between Ta and aa index, we found several interesting results: (1) the linear correlation coefficient between two parameters increases until 1990 and then decreases rapidly, and (2) the scattered plots between two parameters shows different patterns before and after 1990. A partial correlation of Ta and two quantities (aa, CO2) also shows that the geomagnetic effect (aa index) is dominant until about 1990 and the CO2 effect becomes much more important after then. These results imply that the green house effect become very important since at least 1990. For a further analysis, we simply assume that Ta (total) = Ta (aa) + Ta (CO2) and made a linear regression between Ta and aa index from 1868 to 1990. A linear model is then made from the linear regression between energy consumption (a proxy of CO2 effect) and Ta (total) - Ta (aa) since 1990. This linear model makes it possible to predict the temperature anomaly in 2030, about 1 degree higher than the present temperature, which is much larger than in the previous century.

  • We have investigated the correlation analysis between global temperature anomaly and two main factors: geomagnetic activity (aa index) of Earth external factor and CO2 of Earth internal factor. For this, we used NOAA Global Surface Temperature anomaly (Ta) data from 1868 to 2015. The aa index indicates the geomagnetic activity measured at two anti-podal subauroral stations (Canberra Australia and Hartland England) and the CO2 data come from historical ice core records and NOAA/ESRL data. From the comparison between (Ta) and aa index, we found several interesting things, First, the linear correlation coefficient between two parameters increases until 1985 and then decreases rapidly. Second, the scattered plot between two parameters shows a boundary of the correlation tendency (positive and negative correlation) near 1985. A partial correlation of (Ta) and two main factors (aa index, CO2) also shows that the geomagnetic effect (aa index) is dominant until about 1985 and the CO2 effect becomes much more important after then. These results indicate that the CO2 effect become very an important factor since at least 1985. For a further analysis, we simply assume that Ta = Ta(aa)+Ta(CO2) and made a linear regression between (Ta) and aa index from 1868 to 2015. A linear model is then made from the linear regression between energy consumption (a proxy of CO2 effect) and Ta-Ta(aa) since 1985. Our results will be discussed in view of the prediction of global warming.

  • In this study, web link analysis of the Korean National Archives has been Performed using LexiURL to show the dynamic web flow of the National Archives and to identify which closely related institutions the archives should seek to cooperate with for developing an institutional strategic plan. Inlink and co-inlink analysis were performed and, to identify related institutions of the Korean National Archives. a comparison was made with other countries such as Australia, England and the United Stats. Through web link analysis, several features can be detected and future directions are suggested. Most inlinks and co-inlink of the Korean National Archives were from public institutions, indicating that relationships with educational or research institutions are weak. Moreover, Korean National Archives involve fewer web links related to international activities than other countries. Proceeding from these results, educational function, research function and international activities should be fortified. Korean National Archives need to provide more materials for supporting educational and research activities and more cultural interchange among related institutions. Further research with different heritage institutions such as libraries or museums is needed.

  • The purpose of this study is to classify the budget and settlement of global natural history museums into functional criteria, to compare and analyze the integrative research and general administrative functions of these museums, and to suggest the standard of budget compilation of the Korean National Museum of Natural History, which will be established in the near future. Annual reports, documents of budget request, financial statements and account books were collected from the following museums: SNMNH of The U.S.A, AMNH of the U.S.A, NHM of England, MNHN of France and NMNS of Japan. The integrative research and general administrative functions of the studied museums are reclassified into the criteria of budget and settlement data of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. After arranging the details regarding budget and settlement of each museum, the international comparative analysis was investigated on the amounts of the integrative research and general administrative functions among the studied museums. The comparison and analysis show the ratio of integrative research function and general administrative function in budget expenditure standard at 6:4 in natural history museums of the U.S.A and England, of which the functions of research, education, exhibition and publication are considered to be the most activated in the world. This implies that museums should increase the budget for support of integrative research to allow them to maximize their functions.
