  • It has recently become a major concern for us contemplating could regain the advantage with a 'village' concept of the traditional in a modern city. The village community recovery project which is one of the flagship projects of seoul is being actively conducted with the aim to form a network between residents and have even appeared positive results. Among the many efforts to recover community, spatial approach may be one solution. To secure a space for people to easily access, may bring about a small but significant effect. Community Space with high visual accessibility has a large effect as a space of communication and exchange of residents. Socio-economic efforts to restore the community has a limit. In some cases of poor village, Spatial relationship network was found to be a large influence on the formation of the socio-economic relations network. It is important to understand how people lived and formed a relationship within the space of traditional forms and space disappeared from rapid social change process. The community recovery efforts are needed through research and experiments for the residential network can reflect the spatial characteristics.

  • This study illustrates a prototype proposal and its evaluation for the development of floor plans in the condominium housing remodeling. For this I evaluated the survey of the residents of the 'K' town in Joonge-dong, Nowon-gu, Seoul, against the proposal which was developed based on the resident's pre-survey. The result includes that the residents' preference for community actions such as the removal of fences which are reviewed as negative, whereas the introduction of a fitness center and community facilities in the library are reviewed as positive. The residents preferred the open space by the piloti structure, although which is the wall column structure, where they anticipated a rest area, sports facilities, and bicycle drop-off spots. The sidewall proposal in the main building and the full use of the roof floor were underestimated in terms of design concept. The research also illustrated the residents' desired space planning options, those tending to use of space 'B type', personalization 'C type' and spatial size 'A type'. Residents responded positively to the introduction of the 'Alpha' space in which two households share one space that could be used for multiple purposes such as a rest area, an environment-friendly garden, and hobby room, etc, and also there is another possibility it plays an important role to the sociality in community.

  • Community child center is the facility of the highest number of children in child welfare facilities. But plan for the physical environment is not considered importantly because of insufficient finance. However impact of the physical environment in growing children is very closely related in terms of the emotional as well as a functional perspective. Therefore, it is necessary to understand current physical environment and to seek to find alternative methods that can be resolved space matters. As a basic study for this, in the present study we compare and integrate the design principles of child care facility guidelines. And we set up a framework of analysis to derive the design principles that are required in the target area. It is possible to analyze the environmental characteristics of community child center located in Gwang-ju from this framework, to obtain the flowing results. First, draw items are formation of inner direction, provide of environmental supportability, flexibility of use, healthy space. It can be understood that the emotional aspects and physical aspects should be considered comprehensively. Second, as a result of the case analysis, planning elements consideration of the functional aspects appeared high fulfillment rate generally. Planning elements of low fill rate ascertain result from the process take advantage of the narrow space and it was possible to ascertain the study for flexible utilization of space is not. As a result, in order to improve the problems of the target space, increasing the functionality is necessary and also requires consideration of sensitivity of the user's face.

  • This study, as primary research that examines the communication characteristics of the library and the perception of librarians in order to make public libraries a communication space, surveyed the perception of librarians in public libraries and made an attempt to devise activation measures for the communication spaces of the library. As a result, the communication characteristics of the library were derived to be locality, community spirit, and interactivity. In addition, the perception survey found that librarians have positive remarks about the communication spaces of the library. As it shows a high degree of awareness, the library should focus on ways to revitalize communication. First, the direction of communication must be set in order to fulfill library's new role in communication and exchange. Second, it is desirable for the library to free itself from being a quiet space and recreate it as a space for communication. Third, the library needs to exchange and connect with organizations, groups, and gatherings of the community. Fourth, it seems necessary for the library to provide support for the users' independent and voluntary communication and operation of the community.
