This study aimed to look into the effect of sandplay therapy with parent-children on mother-child's attachment security and communication. This study first conducted a scale of attachment security targeting child and mother who is bringing children in the age of 5 to 6 years in two kindergartens located in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, and composed experimental group and control group of four couples respectively by selecting randomly from eight mother-child couples that received low grades. Sandplay therapy with parent-children was conducted for 12weeks on a weekly basis for 50minutes each. To study the attachment security, we used the Klabsbrun-Bowlby(1976)' Separation Anxiety Test and Mother's attachment scale. In this study, it is Seperated in based on Lee Na Gueng(2001) by functional communication and dysfuctional communication in order to measure changes in communication for situation that may occur during Sand play theraphy and record of observation about changes in each session. Data logging makes watching videos that recorded parent-children sand play therapy every situations. When observes the functional communication or dysfunctional communication between mother and the child, checking the corresponding to each entries, the frequency is recorded and qualitatively analyzed by each sessions. To study mother and child have been enhanced stability of the attachment and the relationship had improved results. Also, in each session the observation of increased functional communication, and dysfunctional communication results appear to reduce in parent-children sand play therapy. As a result, a couple sand play therapy has positive impact to improved the relationship between the mother and the child.
The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between mother's interactive responsiveness and infant's communication. The participants of this study were 64 pairs of infants aged 13 to 24 months and their mothers. The infants' communication and their mother's interactive responsiveness were observed during mother-infant's free play for 10 minutes. The mother's interactive responsiveness was analysed on the basis of turn-taking and gaze. The collected data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Pearson's correlation. It was found that the communication of infants aged 13 to 24 months developed rapidly with a certain tendency. Mothers' interactive responsiveness increased significantly with infants' age group. The relationship between mother's interactive responsiveness and infant's communication was significant.
The purpose of this study was twofold: One was to investigate the structural relationships among communication with father and mother, ego-identity, and school adjustment. The other was to test the structural equivalence among researched variables between middle and high school samples. The subjects were 419 sophomores of middle and high schools. The major findings were as follows. 1) Communication with the father had direct and indirect effects on adolescents' school adjustment, while communication with the mother had only an indirect effect on school adjustment. 2) Ego-identity had a direct effect on school adjustment, and mediated the effects of communication with father and mother in school adjustment. 3) Multiple-group analysis revealed that middle and high school groups had the same structural relationships, but had different regression weights.
Responsiveness and initiative between infant and mother from toy centered play situation at 6, 7 months of age and infant's social communication skills at 12 months were studied in a sample of 62 infant-mother pairs. Through the video analysis, infants were grouped into simple react group, cooperated group, and active initiative group. In the between groups, we analyzed whether mother's initiative act styles and response styles were different, and whether their social communication skills were different when they tested at 12 months. The results showed that mother's initiative styles were not different but mother's response styles were significantly different with infant groups. Further result showed that cooperated group gained higher score than active initiative group in the total score of Eary Social Communication Skills scales at 12 months of age. The results suggested that mother's responsive behaviors were more important than initiative behaviors for the infant's positive interaction, and the difference of these behaviors would lead to a gap of early social communication abilities.

The purpose of this study was to compare communication and mother-child interactions of reactive attachment disordered children with normal children. The subjects were 24 children and their mothers participated in this study'12 reactive attachment disordered children and mothers, 12 normal children and mothers. The mother and her child were brought into a p]lay room and the mother was instructed to play with her child as she normally would at home. The play situations were videotaped. Tapes were transcribed and transcribed data was analyzed with 13 mutually exclusive categories encompassing pragmatic functions represented in communication form the early stage of multiword speech in childhood. The tapes were analyzed with 10 behavioral mother-child interaction patterns. As the statistical method, t-test and correlation was calculated. The results of this study were as follows : 1) Reactive attachment disordered children used significantly fewer 'filler', 'information', 'requests', 'describes' and 'disscus self'. 2) Reactive attachment disordered children's mother used significantly fewer 'filler' and 'names'. 3) Reactive attachment disordered children used significantly more 'independent play', fewer 'intiates interaction', 'responsiveness' and 'answer' Reactive attachment disordered children's mother used more 'control play', 'observe' and fewer 'initiates interaction'. 4) Children's communication patterns were related lo mother·'s communication and mother-child interaction types. Children's 'filler', 'information requests', 'describes' and 'disscus self' were consistantly related to mother's 'filler' and 'names', (Children's 'filler', 'information requests', 'describes'. 'disscus self' and mother-child's intiates interaction 'responsivness' were significantly positively correlationed and 'independant play', 'control play', 'observation' were significantly negatively correlationed. The results of reveal that communication and mother-child interaction pattern of reactive attachment disordered group was different from normal group and children's communication pattern were influenced by mother's communication and interaction patterns.
The purpose of this study was to show general trends in the psychological environment of family and problem behaviors perceived by adolescents and examine possible changes in such trends in accordance with the individual variables of adolescent, and then find out the effect of these variables on adolescents' problem behavior. The subject were 1374 adolescents of middle school in Busan(male 698, female 676). The main results were as follows : (1) General trends in the degree of parental monitoring showed that girls had more high than boys, and in the degree of family discord, boys showed more high than girls. In the degree of openness of parent-adolescent communication perceived by adolescents showed that girls had more open communication with mother than boys. Such trends in problem behaviors indicated that adolescents had the attention problem most. According to gender, girls had more problems in withdrawal, somatic complain, anxiety/depression, thought problems, attention problems, destructivity/identity, internalizing problems, total behavior problems in comparison to boys. Boys did delinquent behaviors more than girls. (2) For boys, the monthly income of their family, family discord, and the mother-adolescent communication have a significant direct effect on internalizing problems, externalizing problems and total behavior problems. Besides mother's employment and the type of family have a significant indirect effect on behavior problem. For girls, mother's employment, parental monitoring, family discord, and father-adolescent communication have a significant direct effect on internalizing problems. Mother's employment, family discord, mother-adolescent communication have a significant indirect effect on externalizing problems and total behavior problems. Bisides mother's employment, grade, the type of family, dating have a significant indirect effect on behavior problem. (3) The variables to have a significant influence on the parental monitoring showed as the monthly income of their family, dating, mother's employment, the type of family, the family discord showed as mother's employment on the parent-adolescent communication showed as the type of family. (4) Family discord was the most powerful predicator of problem behaviors of middle school students.
The purpose of this study was to examine the variables such as communication with mother and depression with regard to headache in headache-suffering children. The study subjects consisted of 315 in 5th&6th grade elementary school children in T city, headache-suffering children mean children experiencing twice or more march, 2. 2000 - July. 20, 2000. The data were analyzed by SAS computer program. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The mean score for communication with mother was 73.74 in headache-free group and 70.42 in headache-suffering group and difference had statistical significance. 2. The mean score for depression was 39.43 in headache-free group and 43.03 in headache-suffering group and difference had statistical significance. This study in relation to nursing implies that there is a need to teach mothers to encourage positive communication with children and that to develop depression-reducing program to prevent headache attack in children.
This study investigated the relationships among personal characteristics(sex, self-concepts, depression, fear, internal locus of control), home environment(physical and psychological environment, parenting style, attachment to mother), school environment(teacher support, peer victimization), and Korean-Chinese children's aggression in Yanji, China. Two hundred and two(90 boys and 112 girls) 6th graders rated themselves on a questionnaire. Correlation analysis, and multiple regression were conducted using SPSS Window vers. 12. Alienation to mother, and overt and relational victimization by peers were positively related, and communication with mother was negatively related to children's proactive aggression. Alienation to mother, and overt victimization by peers were positively related, and communication with mother, support by teacher were negatively related to children's reactive aggression. Alienation to mother, and overt and relational victimization by peers were positively related, and communication with mother and support by teacher were negatively related to children's relational aggression. The factor with the greatest contribution to explaining the aggression of Korean-Chinese in Yanbin was the alienation to mother.
Objective: The main purpose of this study was to examine the direct and indirect effects of parent-adolescent communication (through adolescent optimism) on adolescent conflict-coping styles. Methods: A total of 337 high school students participated in this study. They completed questionnaires about communications with their parents and their own optimism and conflict-coping styles. Data were analyzed using t-tests, correlations, and SEM. Results: Neither father- nor mother-adolescent communication had direct effects on adolescent conflict-coping styles. However, mother-adolescent communication had an indirect effect on conflict-coping styles, mediated by adolescent optimism. Adolescents who had open communication with mothers displayed higher levels of optimism, which led to more positive conflict-coping styles. In addition, multigroup analyses revealed that there were significant gender differences in direct and indirect effects. For boys, mother-adolescent communication directly influenced adolescent conflict-coping styles; however, father-adolescent communication did not directly or indirectly affect adolescent conflict-coping styles. For girls, neither father- nor mother-adolescent communication had direct effects on conflict-coping styles; only optimism had a significant effect on conflict-coping styles. Conclusion: The findings from this study suggest that communication with mothers and fathers have different effects on adolescents' conflict-coping styles. These findings have implications for future research and practice by emphasizing the importance of parent-adolescent communication and optimism in designing conflict-coping programs for adolescents.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among parent-adolescent communication, adolescents self-esteem, social development, and home environment. Home environment includes sex, father's vocations, mother's employments, parents educational level, and religions. 275 adolescents (186 males and 89 females students) were selected from middle schools in Seoul. The results indicated that there was no significant difference in parent-adolescent communication, adolescents self-esteem and social development according to environmental factors, such as parents' age, educational level, and religions. Also adolescents self-esteem was highly correlated with parent-adolescent communication, especially with mother-adolescent open communication. Finally, adolescent development of sociality was highly correlated with parent-adolescent communication, but not significant relationship with mother-adolescent reverse-functional communication.
