  • The quickest path problem is one of the important things for quality of services in communication networks. It is to find a path to send a given amount of data from the source to the sink with minimum transmission time, where the transmission time is dependent on both the capacities and the traversal times of the arcs in the network. This is found under the networks that the capacity and the lead time of each ring are predetermined. It is general to solve the quickest path problem using shortest path algorithms. The relevant algorithms proposed till now are based on the capacity of rings in distributed environments. When the configuration of networks is changed, there can be two a, pp.oaches to find the quickest paths. The one is to find new quickest paths, and the other is to update the current quickest paths. As one of the algorithms for the latter, the distributed quickest path update algorithm was proposed. This paper aims to propose the distributed algorithm a, pp.icable to find the quickest path, when the configuration of networks is changed, using the quickest path tree update altorithm, and to verify its possibility of a, pp.ication by analyzing the transmission amount of data from one node to another from the theoretical point of view.

  • In this paper, various architectures of deep neural networks were applied for sound event detection and their performances were compared using a common audio database. The FNN, CNN, RNN and CRNN were implemented using hyper-parameters optimized for the database as well as the architecture of each neural network. Among the implemented deep neural networks, CRNN performed best at all testing conditions and CNN followed CRNN in performance. Although RNN has a merit in tracking the time-correlations in audio signals, it showed poor performance compared with CNN and CRNN.

  • To guarantee secure communication in wireless sensor networks, secret keys should be securely established between sensor nodes. Recently, a simple key distribution scheme has been proposed for pair-wise key establishment in sensor networks by Anderson, Chan, and Perrig. They defined a practical attack model for non-critical commodity sensor networks. Unfortunately, the scheme is vulnerable under their attack model. In this paper, we describe the vulnerability in their scheme and propose a modified one. Our scheme is secure under their attack model and the security of our scheme is proved. Furthermore, our scheme does not require additional communication overhead nor additional infrastructure to load potential keys into sensor nodes.

  • BACnet(Building Automation and Control Networks) is a standard data communication protocol specifically designed for building automation and control systems, BACnet provides six options for data link layer protocols and these six data link layer options can be applied with various wired transmission media. Recently wireless technology prevails in automation area. ZigBee is an IEEE 802.15.4 based standard communication protocol for low-rate wireless personal area networks. In this study, we propose a BACnet over ZigBee model that adopts ZigBee communication channel as a wireless data link layer protocol in a BACnet-based communication network system. The technology proposed in this paper can expand the BACnet application using the advantages of wired and wireless integrated network solution.

  • Mobile users want to be provided with undisrupted network services when they navigate on the Next-Generation (NG) wireless networks. For that, interlocking with a heterogeneous network is important, but there have been few studies on the method for guaranteeing global mobility. Thus, this paper proposes the Proxy-LMA technique, the mobile IP-based global inter-networking system, to enhance global mobility and interoperability within the Next-Generation (NG) network environment. The purpose of the proposed Proxy-LMA system is to expand the boundary of the mobility with regards to the existing mobility management protocol (PMIPv6 and MIPv6) in order to guarantee global mobility and interoperability within the heterogeneous network environment. The results of the performance evaluation showed that the proposed Proxy-LMA system was more efficient than other methods from the standpoint of signaling cost and delay in the heterogeneous network environment.

  • The increasing use of Ethernet-TCP/IP network in industry has led to the growing interest in its reliability in real-time applications such as automated manufacturing systems and process control systems. However, stochastic behavior of its medium access scheme makes it inadequate for time-critical applications. In order to guarantee hard real-time communication service in Ethernet-TCP/IP network, we proposed an algorithm running over TCP/IP protocol stack without modification of protocols. In this paper, we consider communication services guaranteeing deadlines of periodic real-time messages over MAC protocols that have unbounded medium access time. We propose a centralized token scheduling scheme for multiple access networks. The token is used to allow a station to transmit its message during the time amount that is appended to the token. The real-time performance of the proposed algorithm has been described.

  • Cloud computing is a paradigm in which information is permanently stored in servers on the Internet and cached temporarily on clients. Virtual private network (VPN) is the most widely used technology for secure cloud access. Unfortunately, VPN-based cloud services become unavailable when a VPN failure occurs. In this paper, we propose a new scheme to improve the availability of VPN connections against such failures, called high-availability virtual communication (HAVC). Unlike most of the multipath transmission schemes in the literature, the proposed scheme is implemented by using a virtualization technique, and its protocol functions are independent of existing networks - potential clients are not required to modify their applications or operating systems. Simulation results show that the HAVC can not only tolerate VPN failures but also achieve high transmission performance.

  • Device-to-device (D2D) communication is a potential solution to the incessant increase in data traffic on cellular networks. The greatest problem is how to control the interference between D2D users and cellular mobile users, and between D2D users themselves. This paper proposes a solution for this issue by putting the full control privilege in cellular network using the software-defined networking (SDN) concept. A software virtual switch called Open vSwitch and several components are integrated into mobile devices for data forwarding and radio resource mapping, whereas the control functions are executed in the cellular network via a SDN controller. This allows the network to assign radio resources for D2D communication directly, thus reducing interference. This solution also brings out many benefits, including resource efficiency, energy saving, topology flexibility, etc. The advantages and disadvantages of this architecture are analyzed by both a mathematical method and a simple implementation. The result shows that implementation of this solution in the next generation of cellular networks is feasible.

  • Digital communication networks have become a core technology in advanced building automation systems. BACnet(${\underline{B}}uilding$ ${\underline{A}}utomation$ and ${\underline{C}}ontrol$ ${\underline{net}}works$) is a standard data communication protocol designed specifically for building automation and control systems. BACnet adopts Master-Slave/Token-Passing (MS/TP) protocol as one of its field level networks. In this study, we introduce a method of implementing bandwidth allocation scheme in the MS/TP protocol. The bandwidth allocation scheme improves the capability of real-time communication of the original MS/TP protocol. The bandwidth allocation scheme introduced in this paper can be easily implemented in the existing MS/TP protocol with a slight modification. In this study, we actually developed the hardware and firmware of MS/TP module in which bandwidth allocation scheme is implemented.

  • Most networks for automation are tuned to an expected traffic at their design stage. During their actual operations, however, the networks experience considerable changes in traffic from time to time. These traffic changes caused by common events like machine failure and production schedule change may adversely affect the network performance and, in turn, the performance of the connected devices. This paper presents communication delay model for Profibus token passing protocol, and introduces TTR selection methods to maintain a uniform level of network performance at all stations under changing network traffic.
