Employing knowledge of adaptive possibilities of agents in multi-agents system, we have explored new aspects of distributed modular systems for building ubiquitous heterogeneous robotic systems using intelligent building blocks (I-BLOCKS) [1] as reconfigurable modules. This paper describes early technological approaches related to technical design, experimental developments and evaluation of adaptive processing and information interaction among I-BLOCKS allowing users to easily develop modular robotic systems. The processing technology presented in this paper is embedded inside each $DUPLO^1$ brick by microprocessor as well as selected sensors and actuators in addition. Behaviors of an I-BLOCKS modular structure are defined by the internal processing functionality of each I-Block in such structure and communication capacities between I-BLOCKS. Users of the I-BLOCKS system can easily do 'programming by building' and thereby create specific functionalities of a modular robotic structure of intelligent artefacts without the need to learn and use traditional programming language. From investigating different effects of modern artificial intelligence, I-BLOCKS we have developed might possibly contain potential possibilities for developing modular robotic system with different types of morphology, functionality and behavior. To assess these potential I-BLOCKS possibilities, the paper presents a limited range of different experimental scenarios in which I-BLOCKS have been used to set-up reconfigurable modular robots. The paper also reports briefly about earlier experiments of I-BLOCKS created on users' natural inspiration by a just defined concept of modular artefacts.
Previous studies on salesperson's performance have concentrated on increasing job satisfaction through compensations and benefits or effective communication processes and have not sufficiently considered the emotional aspect of salesperson's selling behaviors. The purpose of this study is to investigate informal learning and positive psychological capital on the relationship between job satisfaction and customer orientation of IT salespeople. Data were collected from 159 IT salespeople and analyzed by structural equation modeling (SEM). As a result, it was found that the informal learning of IT salesperson had a significantly positive impact on positive psychological capital. Positive psychological capital was significantly affect on job satisfaction and customer orientation. Positive psychological capital mediated the relationship between informal learning and job satisfaction/customer orientation. The results of this study suggest that there is a need to develop informal learning based on positive psychology and to strengthen the reflected job satisfaction and customer orientation.
Purpose: This paper was conducted to validate the Korean version of the Peer Group Caring Interaction Scale (PGCIS-K) that measures caring behaviors as experienced by nursing students. Methods: Translation of the PGCIS-K was validated through forward-backward translation methods. Survey data were collected from 218 nursing students in a nursing school. Construct validity and criterion-related validity were evaluated. Internal consistency and the Guttman split-half coefficient were calculated to assess reliability. Results: The PGIS-K showed reliability except for 4 items (Cronbach's ${\alpha}=.91$, Guttman split-half coefficient=.85), which were low (<.30) or negatively correlated with the total scale. A 12-item reduced form of the PGCIS-K was developed by item-analysis and construct validity evidence. Factor loading for the 12 items on 2 factors ranged from .47~.82, which explained 58.4% of the total variance. Two factors were named 'modeling and assistance (Cronbach's ${\alpha}=.87$)' and 'communication and sharing (Cronbach's ${\alpha}=.82$)'. Convergent validity, discriminant validity, and criterion validity were supported according to the correlation coefficients of the 2 factors with other measure. Conclusion: The findings suggest preliminary evidence that the 12-item PGCIS-K can be used to measure nursing students' peer group caring interactions in Korea. Additional studies are recommended to continue the psychometric evaluation of this scale. Also, it can be extended to measure graduate nursing students or staff nurses' peer group caring interaction.
Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the attributing factors influencing usability of the mobile phones specifically designed for the elderly users. Efforts to identify factors that cause usability problems for the elderly users in using mobile phones can provide the groundwork for changes aimed at usability enhancement and design of interfaces of mobile phones. Background: It became important to understand the behaviors and tendencies of the elderly in communication as the society became older. The problems in digital divide is contributed to mainly lack of understanding in terms of the use pattern of the elderly and lack of consideration of their characteristics in designing user interfaces of most ICT devices. Method: A total of 30 elderly users who were over 65 years in age participated in usability evaluation test experiment and performed seven different tasks using a widely accepted model of universally designed mobile phone. Their performance was compared with that of contrast group that consisted of 10 younger participants who were on their 20s. Results: It was found that the elderly users had hard times in using mobile phones, especially in keypad manipulation among search, understanding, and manipulation subtasks. Conclusion: Older users seemed to have difficulty in all the subtasks of search, recognition, and manipulation. It was suggested that designers of mobile phones need to give careful consideration into designing visual interfaces for search tasks and keypads for easier control and input for the elderly users. Application: The study is expected to provide guidelines for the universal design of mobile phones and their interfaces for enhancing usability of the mobile phone for elderly users.
There is a need to investigate folk remedies used by patients with breast cancer because there is little information about the subject, even though many Korean women with breast cancer have used folk remedies during and after their treatment. The purpose of this study was to investigate and describe the phenomena and the meaning of folk remedies in order to better understand patients with breast cancer and to suggest directions for comprehensive nursing care. The Questions for the study were as follows What kinds of folk remedies do patients with breast cancer use\ulcorner What are the routes of knowing about folk remedies in patients with breast cancer\ulcorner What are the patterns of the usage of the folk remedies\ulcorner Why do patients with breast cancer use folk remedies\ulcorner What are the meanings of folk remedies to patients with breast cancer\ulcorner To answer these questions, a qualitative research method was used. Thirty-nine patients were recruited from university teaching hospitals from March, 1993 to November 1994. Many of them underwent either modified radical mastectomy or received various adjuvant therapy including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and hormonal therapy. Data were collected by in-depth interviews, observations, medical records, and analyzed step-by-step using qualitative analysis. The results were as follows : 1. Patients with breast cancer have used many different kinds of folk remedies. 2. Patients with breast cancer did not know the exact effects of the folk remedies. Also the effects could not be exactly proven by the patients. 3. Patients with breast cancer received information about many kinds of folk remedies through various communication systems, such as other patients, their families and relatives, friends, and many types of mass media. 4. To use the folk remedies was one kind of illness behavior that was used by these patients. 5. Folk remedies were used to deal with not only anxiety by the patients themselves but also as the expression of affection and concern by families and relatives. 6. The use of folk remedies was one of the adaptation behaviors in patients with breast cancer whose disease was in the terminal stage. Based on the above findings, one suggestion was made : To continue further studies on folk remedies used by other patients with cancer in order to further explain health and illness behavior of Korean people.
Rational debate and public conversation in the public sphere of social network are crucial conditions for realizing deliberative democracy. However, negative communication can occur online more frequently than in the real space, and mutually hostile messages are appearing. In the electoral process, citizens combining for particular candidates have made personal attacks against, abused and slandered the opposing candidates. Then, how and to what degree has the flaming behavior been appearing in the elections? Are there influencers to propagate the flaming behavior? And how flaming are these influencers, compared to internet users? This research focuses on the flaming behavior which occurred during the reelection for Seoul Mayor, in order to diagnose the role of social network as an online public sphere. This study analyzes the spreading degree of flaming messages depending on each issue, and the differences of messages between influencers and normal users. There was frequent flaming behaviors to distribute biased information which criticized, laughed at and maliciously attacked individual candidates. Moreover, influencers who advanced leading opinions, displayed a higher flaming degree than normal users.
Recently, a new infectious disease, COVID-19, has been spreading not only in Korea but around the world. As a result, the Korean government raised the level of infectious disease crisis alerts to a serious level on February 23, 2020. The purpose of this study is to apply the situational theory of publics to publics segmentation according to the issuance of a crisis alert and to suggest ways to improve the crisis alert system. To this end, the level of public perception on crisis alerts was checked. The verification confirmed that the situational theory of publics is a suitable theoretical framework for analyzing the communication behaviors of the public toward crisis alerts. As a result of the public segmentation, 42.7% were classified as active publics. Based on this, it was suggested to reorganize the crisis alert system as a system for communicating with the public.

This study investigated and analyzed the status of difficult patrons, and examined the most effective response measures targeted the public libraries in Busan. A survey on 128 people who served to the public libraries in Busan carried out for analysis of problem behaviors of public library users, and brainstorming and AHP method by 9 librarians for seeking of the effective response plan. This study shows that the most effective response ways for difficult patrons is to enact detailed regulations and the appropriate notification and education to the users about the regulations. In addition, education for communication skills to library staffs should be conducted on a regular basis, like as using positive language, listening techniques, the appropriate response techniques with angry users.
The purpose of this study was to develop a sexuality education program for early adolescents. The overall goals of the program were to not only increase knowledge and skirts, but also to improve the awareness of healthy sex in order to promote premarital abstinence, parent-teen communication and parental awareness of the importance of parental roles and responsibilities in prevention of sexual problems of the early adolescent. The program consisted of six sessions: puberty changes during adolescence, the meaning of sexuality, sexual drives in dating relationships, understanding of the risks associated with early sexual involvement and support for postponing sexual activities, managing and avoiding sexually risky situations, the importance of communications with parents about issues related to sexuality. The program evaluation had three steps: pre-test, immediate post-test and two month follow-up post test. The results showed that the program had a significantly positive effect on the improvement of adolescent's knowledge about sex, and attitudes and behaviors toward sex, particularly in the immediate post-test. At the two month follow-up assessment, the effect of the program still remained strong, though there was a sight and partial reduction which was not statistically significant. Most of the program participants expressed a high level of satisfaction with the program. Parental involvement appeared to be effective as well. Recommendations for further study include: to re-evaluate the curriculum for various other participants. In addition, further study which would compare post-test results of these participants with a comparison group of peers who did not receive the program would be valuable. The author believes that the program can be used in implementing specific subjects (sessions) in new settings, as well as implementing the entire package of the program.
This paper proposes an effective method to create logically consistent and structured requirement model by applying consistency control approach of the formal method to the use-case modeling. This method integrates the multi-perspective scattered requirement segments that may overlap and conflict each other into a structured requirement model. The model structure can be analyzed based on context goal and concerned area overlap analysis. The model consistency can be achieved by using specification overlap-based consistency checking method as an integration vehicle. An experimental application to case study shows that the Proposed method can successfully identify requirement overlaps and inconsistency. It can also transfer multi-viewpoint requirement segments into a consistently integrated use-case model to clarify software behaviors and functionality This method helps users to enhance capability to identify specification inconsistency in the use-case modeling at the early stage of software engineering development. The proposed approach can also facilitate communication between users and developers to ensure customer satisfaction.
