Ingestion of foreign bodies (FBs) is a common phenomenon among young children. Plain radiography is the first step diagnostic modality to detect the radio-opaque FBs. And computed tomography has been recommended by several guidelines as useful modalities for diagnosing ingested FBs. However, there is a risk of radiation exposure, making it burdensome to use in asymptomatic patients. Ultrasound (US) is not a commonly used technique for diagnosing ingested foreign bodies. However, US can provide real-time imaging with good resolutions without radiation exposure in pediatric patients. Herein, we report two pediatric cases of metallic foreign body ingestion that were successfully diagnosed using US for localizing foreign bodies. This study indicates that US may be used as an alternative method for detecting the localization of metallic foreign bodies in the gastrointestinal tract without exposure of radiation, particularly in pediatric patients.

Element failure occurs with high probability for every array used in the real world ; that is, it is a common phenomenon that there are one or more elements with no output. Element failure produces an elevated sidelobe level and fails to reject the interference signals in an adaptive beamformer. In this paper, we present the adaptive beamforming algorithm for array with element failure. The presented method minimizes the array output power subject to a set of linear constraints which maintain the frequency response in the look direction and force the weights of the inoperative elements to zero. Numerical results have been included.

Recent advances in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies have led to a significant increase in metaverse platforms. Metaverses are setting a new direction for the digital world. This paper examines the phenomenon of virtual worlds that are becoming an issue these days, focusing on [Ready Player One]. One of the common features of the metaverse platform in [Ready Player One] and the platforms currently in use is the concept of open world. This is a feature that goes beyond simply moving around in a virtual world and allows users to freely reset, participate in, and control the environment. This innovative concept is a hallmark of metaverse platforms, and it is becoming increasingly important and influential. Through this study, we focused on the [open world system] of the platform in the movie and the modern metaverse platform, and suggested and studied how the scalability of the metaverse will present a turning point in the future.
Ferroptosis is a novel mechanism of programmed cell death, characterized by intracellular iron overload, intensified lipid peroxidation, and abnormal accumulation of reactive oxygen species, which ultimately resulting in cell membrane impairment and demise. Research has revealed that cancer cells exhibit a greater demand for iron compared to normal cells, indicating a potential susceptibility of cancer cells to ferroptosis. Stomach and colorectal cancers are common gastrointestinal malignancies, and their elevated occurrence and mortality rates render them a global health concern. Despite significant advancements in medical treatments, certain unfavorable consequences and drug resistance persist. Consequently, directing attention towards the phenomenon of ferroptosis in gastric and colorectal cancers holds promise for enhancing therapeutic efficacy. This review aims to elucidate the intricate cellular metabolism associated with ferroptosis, encompassing lipid and amino acid metabolism, as well as iron metabolic processes. Furthermore, the significance of ferroptosis in the context of gastric and colorectal cancer is thoroughly examined and discussed.

Haze is a very common phenomenon that degrades or reduces the visibility. It causes various problems where high quality images are required such as traffic and security monitoring. So haze removal from images receives great attention for clear vision. Due to its huge impact, significant advances have been achieved but the task yet remains a challenging one. Recently, different types of deep generative adversarial networks (GAN) are applied to suppress the noise and improve the dehazing performance. But it is unclear how these algorithms would perform on hazy images acquired "in the wild" and how we could gauge the progress in the field. This paper aims to bridge this gap. We present a comprehensive study and experimental evaluation on diverse GAN models in single image dehazing through benchmark datasets.

We are designed to solve cyber motion sickness, an important task that must be addressed for the growth of the virtual reality content industry. Not only the industry but also academia are paying a lot of attention. However, despite long interest and research on the phenomenon of cyber motion sickness, a solution has not been drawn. This is deeply related to the lack of tools that can effectively measure cyber motion sickness. Therefore, in this paper, prior studies on cyber motion sickness were analyzed to develop a tool that can effectively measure cyber motion sickness when users experience immersive virtual reality. The measurement method of cyber motion sickness used in previous studies, each characteristic and limitation, and common factors related to cyber motion sickness were analyzed. Each of the related factors was derived as sub-factors. Based on the analyzed contents, an effective cyber motion sickness measurement evaluation tool model in immersive virtual reality was presented. It is expected that the evaluation tool model can be used for the study of cyber motion sickness.
Cerebral cavernous malformation (CCM) is a vascular anomaly commonly found in children and young adults. Common clinical presentations of pediatric patients with CCMs include headache, focal neurological deficits, and seizures. Approximately 40% of pediatric patients are asymptomatic. Understanding the natural history of CCM is crucial and hemorrhagic rates are higher in patients with an initial hemorrhagic presentation, whereas it is low in asymptomatic patients. There is a phenomenon known as temporal clustering in which a higher frequency of symptomatic hemorrhages occurs within a few years following the initial hemorrhagic event. Surgical resection remains the mainstay of treatment for pediatric CCMs. Excision of a hemosiderin-laden rim is controversial regarding its impact on epilepsy outcomes. Stereotactic radiosurgery is an alternative treatment, especially for deep-seated CCMs, but its true efficacy needs to be verified in a clinical trial.

Anterior communicating artery aneurysms are the most common intracranial aneurysm and have a high risk of rupture which can lead to morbidity and mortality. Traditionally, intracranial aneurysms were treated by clipping with neurosurgical access. However, certain patients may prefer less invasive approaches or not represent open surgical candidates. Flow diverters, including flow-redirection endoluminal devices (FRED), are new-generation stents that are placed endovascularly by transfemoral or transradial access. Recent studies have demonstrated that FRED is both safe and effective, with complete occlusion of aneurysms in over 90% of patients. This case highlights an interesting phenomenon of post-flow diversion circulatory remodeling, where flow diverter treatment can alter the circle of Willis anatomy and physiology.

Due to dense deployment and innumerable amount of traffic flow in wireless sensor networks (WSNs), congestion becomes more common phenomenon from simple periodic traffic to unpredictable bursts of messages triggered by external events. Even for simple network topology and periodic traffic, congestion is a likely event due to dynamically time varying wireless channel condition and contention caused due to interference by concurrent transmissions. In this paper, we have proposed three mechanisms: upstream source count and buffer based rate control and snoop based MAC level ACK scheme to avoid congestion. The simulation results show that our proposed mechanism achieves around 80% delivery ratio even under bursty traffic condition

Motor imagery based Brain-computer Interface(BCI), which has recently attracted attention, is the technique for decoding the user's voluntary motor intention using Electroencephalography(EEG). For classifying the motor imagery, event-related desynchronization(ERD), which is the phenomenon of EEG voltage drop at sensorimotor area in ${\mu}$-band(8-13Hz), has been generally used but this method are not free from the performance degradation of the BCI system because EEG has low spatial resolution and shows different ERD-appearing band according to users. Common spatial pattern(CSP) was proposed to solve the low spatial resolution problem but it has a disadvantage of being very sensitive to frequency-band selection. Discriminative filter bank common spatial pattern(DFBCSP) tried to solve the frequency-band selection problem by using the Fisher ratio of the averaged EEG signal power and establishing discriminative filter bank(DFB) which only includes the feature frequency-band. However, we found that DFB might not include the proper filters showing the spatial pattern of ERD. To solve this problem, we apply a band-selection process using CSP feature vectors and linear discriminant analysis to DFBCSP instead of the averaged EEG signal power. The filter selection results and the classification accuracies of the existing and the proposed methods show that the CSP feature is more effective than signal power feature.
