  • In order to detect causal relationships between latent traits of sensual impressions for a color and physical characteristics constructing it, it is a common practice first to extract latent factors by a factor analysis method and secondly to clarify the causal relationships by a regression analysis method. This paper presents a multivariate statistical technique to detect the influence of the physical characteristics to the latent factors simultaneously which treats the physical characteristics as experimental factors in a $L_{27}$ factorial design and analysis the effects of the factors to the latent trait scores by an ANOVA.

  • Herniation after harvesting of deep circumflex iliac artery (DCIA) flap is a known but not a common complication. It occurs about 2.8 to 9 % according to the literatures and can proceed to a more severe complication such as bowel obstruction. There are several factors that exacerbate the risk: surgical factors, operator factor, and patient factors. Surgical factors include large anatomical defect and denervation of related muscles. Operator factor stands for unpunctual suture technique. Patient factors represent obesity, diabetes, pulmonary disease, smoking habits, and so on. Thus, herniation might occur regardless of meticulous suture. Herein, we would like to report two cases of herniation after DCIA flap harvesting and repaired by Lichtenstein tension-free hernioplasty with literature review.

  • Until the middle of the 20th century, exogenous febrile disease was the most common disease that threatened the human health. For a long time, oriental medicine doctors developed many ways to cure this disease by studying pathogenic factors. The phthogenic factors and treatments of exogenous febrile disease with time are as followings. "Naegyeong(內經)" : Cold pathogen. Diaphoretic therapy, purgation therapy. Hwata : Cold pathogen. Diaphoretic therapy, emetic therapy, purgation therapy. Jangjunggyeong(張仲景) : Cold pathogen. Eight principal therapeutic methods except diaphoretic therapy with pungent and cool properties. Yuhagan(劉河間) : Fire pathogen. Diaphoretic therapy with pungent and cool properties. Idongwon(李東垣) : Improper diet and overstrain. Reinforcing therapy. Ouga(吳又可) : Epidemic pathogenic factors. Diaphoretic therapy with pungent and cool properties, Heat-reducing therapy. purgation therapy Seopcheonsa(葉天士) : Warm pathogen. diaphoretic therapy, Heat-reducing therapy, expel Heat therapy, cooling the blood and eliminating stagnation of blood. Oguktong(吳鞠通) : Six pathogenic factors. Eight principal therapeutic methods including diaphoretic therapy with pungent and cool properties.

  • Consider the oblique factor model X=Af+$\varepsilon$, with defining relation $\Sigma$$\Phi$Λ'+Ψ. This paper is concerned with suggesting an optimal Bayes criterion for determining the number of factors in the model, i.e. dimension of the vector f. The use of marginal likelihood as a method for calculating posterior probability of each model with given dimension is developed under a generalized conjugate prior. Then based on an appropriate loss function, a Bayes rule is developed by use of the posterior probabilities. It is shown that the approach is straightforward to specify distributionally and to imploement computationally, with output readily adopted for constructing required cirterion.

  • Student evaluation of university teaching is a common tool for measuring the educational contribution of a professor and improving the quality of classes. There, however, exist external factors in the beyond of control of a instructor, which affect the result of Student's rating to prevent practical use of evaluation for administrative purpose. This paper investigates the factors that spoil the validity and the reliability of student evaluation and proposes a method to control the effect by the statistical analysis of evaluation data of Jeonju University for two years.

  • It is common to assum identical allowable safety factors in static strength, defined by mean stress and in fatigue, defined by stress amplitude. Under the load with asymmetrical cycles the safety factor is not the same. In this paper, with the consideration of unequal allowable safety factors a general method for estimating fatigue reliability of a machine element under a combined state of stress is derived based on the theory proposed by Prof. Kececioglu and normal distribution. The calculation of fatigue reliability for limited life is discussed with example.

  • This paper presents a Rotem's methodology for the establishment of train operation plan in Railway system. Train operation plan is the key prior plan to proceed the design of the civil and E&M relevant subsystem. But, due to the limitation of the environmental and project condition, common consensus to the key factors which make up the operation plan have not been accomplished. So, as a result of this comparative review for the general approaching method of train operation plan and application status of the major key factors being performed by Rotem, we will get the opportunities to improve the accuracy of the train operation plan.

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common airway disease that has considerable impact on disease burdens and mortality rates. A large number of articles on COPD are published within the last few years. Many aspects on COPD ranging from risk factors to management have continued to be fertile fields of investigation. This review summarizes 6 clinical articles with regards to the risk factors, phenotype, assessment, exacerbation, management and prognosis of patients with COPD which were being published last year in major medical journals.

  • In Korea, a movement for forming intentional communities is gathering people's interests to improve individualistic living environment, and to create a humanistic lifestyle. However, it is difficult to say if its management is successful or not, because intentional community is just in the experimental stage in Korea. The purpose of this study is to identify actual condition of residents' participation in forming process, shared activities in their daily lives, residents' regulation, common facilities and its management in order to offer basic information for revitalization of intentional communities in Korea. 7 intentional communities including eco-friendly villages, religious communities and a cooperative housing community were collected as the study objects. Upon analysis, those communities were divided into two groups according to their purpose of establishment; "HC (Housing-life focused Community includes cooperative housing community and eco-friendly community)" and "IC (Ideology focused Community includes ideology community and religious community)" in order to identify difference in residents' participation between the two groups. In-dept interviews with representatives of 7 intentional communities by a structured questionnaire were used as study method. The findings of this study are as follows; In general, more active residents' participation is identified in ICs than in HCs. There is no common house, which is considered as essential in intentional community, in HCs, while it was facilitated in all ICs. Role of leader seems more important in ICs than in HCs. About the ownership of housing and land, private owned is common in HCs, while community owned is common in ICs. Shared activities and residents' regulations are evidently less in most HCs than in ICs. Furthermore, in order to run a community sustainable, it is crucial to encourage sense of community among residents, and developing common house and activity programs. Common house design, which can promote proactive residents' participation in shared activity should be studied fitted to Korean circumstances. Above all, proactive participation in the shared activities is one of the most important factors in intentional community.
