유한요소법을 이용한 궤도용 고무패드의 마모 예측 및 설계에 관한 연구 (Design Study on the Wear Enhanced of Rubber Pad of Track Assembly with Finite Element Method)

  • In this paper, we have proposed a wear growth prediction method on the surface of rubber pad of track assembly installed in high-speed battle tank i.e. the automatic model updating code interfacing with commercial finite element simulation software. Also, simple and resonable geometrical, material finite element model was established to be easily updated based on the empirical threshold value of contact pressure on the contact surface. From the iterative model update and analysis results, we discovered a weak point on rubber pad surface and suggested a new design concept for improving the wear performance of track assembly.

  • The seismic isolation technology has appeared to be increasingly necessary for highway brides LNG tank nuclear power plant and building structures in view of recent frequent earthquake vibrations in Korea. Also high-technology industries required effective seismic protection. The LRB(Lead Rubber Bearing) systen has been counted as the most effective way for seismic isolation which is now under development and widely used in industries. Hear the commercial FEM software for nonlinear analysis MARC has provided force-displacement curves on the rubber system. The analysis has been carried out about four cases ; 29.5mm and 59mm horizontal dislacements with/without a center hole.   • The seismic isolation technology has appeared to be increasingly necessary for highway bridges, LNG tank, nuclear power plant, and building structures in view of earthquake vibrations. Also high-technology industries require effective seismic protection. The Seismic Isolation Bearing - High Damping Rubber Bearing - system has been counted as the most effective way fur seismic isolation, which is now under development and widely used in industries. Here, the commercial FEM software for nonlinear analysis, MARC, has provided force-displacement curves on the rubber system. The analyses have been carried out about fourteen cases; 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, 125% and 150% horizontal displacements with a different frequency - 0.01Hz and 0.50Hz - and 100% horizontal displacement with four different frequency - 0.01Hz, 0.16667Hz, 0.3333Hz and 0.50Hz. The unknown constants of the strain energy function of Ogden model have been obtained by a tension test and planar shear test.

자동차용 고무부품에 대한 대변형 유한요소해석 (Large deformation finite element analysis for automotive rubber components)

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the static and dynamic characteristics of automotive rubber components by computer simulation. Bush / rectangular type engine mounts and wind shield weather strip are analyzed by using the commercial code ABAQUS and the results are verified by experiments. Large deformation static response is analyzed in order to get the information about the deformation pattern and static stiffness of engine mounts, and about the seperation force of wind shield weather strip from body. The isothermal steady-state dynamic response of components which have been subjected to an initial static pre-load is analyzed for the dynamic stiffness of engine mount rubber components. There are good agreements between simulation and experiments. So it is possible to apply the computer simulation to the design of automotive rubber components.

승용차 스티어링 칼럼 시스템의 진동해석에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Vibration Analysis of an Automobile Steering System)

  • In this paper, in order to analyze dynamic characteristics of an automobile steering system consisting of many components, natural frequencies and transfer functions of each component and the total system are found on a FFT analyzer by experiments. Then, the data are transmitted to a commercial package program, CADA-PC. By analyzing the data, the mode shape of each natural frequency and damping values are obtained. Also, the function of a rubber coupling in column and telescoping effects on system are considered. C.A.E commercial programs are used to compare with the results of experiments. For the finite element modeling, I-DEAS is used. Data processing and post processing are operated on NASTRAN and XL, respectively. The ball-bearing and the linkage of shaft with column are modeled by spring element. Stiffness is modified from the results of experiments. The results of those show close agreement. In the mode shape of total system, wheel mode is dominant at lower frequency, while the column mode is main mode at higher. The role of rubber coupling in vibration isolation is clear on mode shape. Telescoping function makes natural frequency of column changed.

Characterization of a carbon black rubber Poisson's ratio based on optimization technique applied in FEA data fit

  • The paper presents a study regarding rubber compressibility behavior. The objective is to analyze the effect of compression degree of rubber on its mechanical properties and propose a new methodology based on reverse engineering to predict compressibility degree based on uniaxial stretching test and Finite Element Analysis (FEA). In general, rubbers are considered to be almost incompressible and Poisson's ratio is close to 0.5. Since this property is intimately related to the rubber packing density, little changes in Poisson's ratio can lead to significant changes regarding mechanical behavior. The deviatory hyperelastic constants were obtained through experimental data fitting by least squares method for the most relevant constitutive models implemented in commercial software Abaqus, such as: Neo-Hooke, Mooney-Rivlin, Ogden, Yeoh and Arruda-Boyce, whereas the hydrostatic part was determined through an optimization algorithm implemented in the Abaqus environment by Python scripting. The simulation results presented great influence of the Poisson's ratio in the rubber specimen mechanical behavior mainly for high strain levels. A conventional pure volumetric compression test was also carried out in order to compare the results obtained by the proposed methodology.

고분자 폐가물의 열분해공정에서 유효자원의 회수 (Recovery of Available Resource from Waste Polymer using Thermal Degradation Process)

  • Commercial rubber(IR, NR, BR), SBR, and tire were degraded by thermal degradation process. The oil yield of rubbers and tire ranges about 37~86%, it was increased with increase of operation temperature in pyrolysis. And the yield of pyrolytic oil was increased with increase of heating rate. The maximum oil yields of IR, NR, BR, SBR, and tire were 80, 73, 83, 86 and 55% each at $700^{\circ}C$ with a heating rate of $20^{\circ}C$/min, respectively. The pyrolytic oil components were consisted of about 50 aromatic compounds. The calorific value of purolytic oil of commercial rubber, SBR, and tire was measured by calorimeter, it was 39~40 kJ/g. The BET surface area of pyroblack was $47~63m^2/g$. The optimum condition of pyrolysis was operating temperature of $700^{\circ}C$ with heating rate of $20^{\circ}C$. Therefore, the pyrolytic oil and pyroblack are possible to alternative fuel and carbon black.

  • In this study, a computer program was developed for the seismic response analysis of the structures with base isolation bearings. On a 6-story steel frame structure isolated by lead rubber bearings and friction pendulum bearings, seismic response analyses using the developed program and commercial program and experiments were carried out. The results were compared one another and discussed.

  • The axle spring is used in primary suspension component of railway vehicles. The most important factor of axle spring is to have adequate spring constant for comfortable feeling of ride. The non-linear properties of rubber which were important parameter to evaluate of rubber components, were determined by the characteristic test. The finite element analysis of the axle spring are executed to predict the behavior of deformation and stiffness by using commercial FEA code.

  • In order to reduce the shock which may occur during shipping of a drumtype container, rubber mounts were designed using a commercial FEM package and manufactured, and then the performance was checked by static and dynamic test. According to the design specifications, the container system was tested by dropping. The experimental results are compared with the theoretical ones.
