  • In this paper, we propose the new emotion model and the robot behavior decision model based on proposed emotion model. As like in human, emotions are hierarchicalized in four levels (momentary emotions, mood, attitude, and personality) and are determined from the robot behavior and human responses. They are combined with motivation (which is determined from the external stimuli) to determine the robot behavior.

  • Major changes of the industrial engineering curricula in U.S.A. were analysed in three stages: 1938, 1958 and 1984. There are tendencies that the traditional plant operation oriented courses are combined and compressed to a few courses while the system oriented courses such as SA, OR, computer applications, man-machine systems are expanding. It will be necessary to organize a study group such as ASEE conducting further studies to meet our needs by upgrading the engineering curriculum for the coming 90's education.

  • EPC seeks to minimize variability by transferring the output variable to a related process input(controllable) variable, while SPC seeks to reduce variability by detecting and eliminating assignable causes of variation. In the case of product control, a very reasonable objective is to try to minimize the variance of the output deviations from the target or set point. We compare three control systems; EPC, combined system with EWMA and EPC, and SPC. This paper shows through simulation that the performance of the integrated model of EPC and SPC is more preferable than that of EPC.

  • In this paper we present one modeling system, which is composed of a 3-dimensional proile measurement unit, a CAD system and a NC milling machine. This system is compactly combined so that measurement, designing and manufacturing can be performed efficiently. This system was actually applied to make a plaster model of the pottery.

  • A new method of spindle waveform detection is presented for the automated analysis of sleep EEG. The method is based on the combined application of signal conditioning in the time-domain and local spectrum analyzing in the frequency-domain. The overall detection system is implemented and, tested in real-time with a total of 24 hour data obtained from four subjects. The result shows an average agreement of 86.7% with the visually inspected result.

  • Real life problems can be expressed as a congruence modulus n and split into a system of congruence equations in modulus factors of n. A system of congruence equations can be combined into a congruence equation under certain conditions. This paper uniquely presents and critically reviews the generalized Chinese Remainder Theorem (CRT) for combining systems of congruence equations into single congruence equations. Sequential and parallel implementation strategies of the generic CRT are outlined. A variety of unique applications of the CRT are discussed.

  • Most of scheduling papers on FMS have been considered that the fabrication process, the machining process and the assembly process etc. are independent and the releasing, routing, dependent, batching, loading problem are treated separetely. In this paper, we discuss that the integrated scheduling problem which can be solved for efficient use. We combine two systems that each process system which in order to produce a product is treated dependently, the releasing and the routing problem are combined one system and we present the efficient flexible manufacturing system as including the alternate process.

  • The problem that we address is to determine the inventory stockage levels in a multi-echelon inventory system for repairable items in a multi-indenture system. We propose the simulation optimization approach to determine the stockage levels at each echelon, where a simulator for the underlying system is combined with an appropriate optimization tool, Genetic Algorithm (GA).

  • This study is concerned with developing a hybrid heuristic algorithm for solving the redundancy optimization problem which is very important in system safety, This study develops a HH(Hybrid Heuristic) method combined with two strategies to alleviate the risks of being trapped at a local optimum. One of them is to construct the populations of the initial solutions randomly. The other is the additional search with SA(Simulated Annealing) method in final step. Computational results indicate that HH performs consistently better than the KY method proposed in Kim[8]. Therefore, the proposed HH is believed to an attractive to other heuristic methods.

  • New display technologies including LCD and plasma panels and Digital Light Projection (DLP) systems all offer large screens and impressive picture quality. However, flat-panel displays require a sophisticated picture processing to let these panels perform at their optimum levels. This paper explains why motion compensating techniques combined with frame rate conversion and quasi-impulse driving reduces motion blur and film judder for flat panel displays and presents the IC and its system application using this technique.
