  • In this paper, the performance of post-installed adhesive bonded anchor embedded in concrete is assessed using numerical simulations. This study aims at studying the influence of parameters on the performance of a chemically bonded anchorage system. Non-linear finite element modelling and simulations are carried out by properly using the material properties and phenomenon. Materials parameters such as characteristic length, fracture energy, damage criteria, tension retention and crack width of concrete and interface characteristics are carefully assigned so as to obtain a most realistic behaviour of the chemical anchor system. The peak strength of two different anchor systems obtained from present numerical studies is validated against experimental results. Furthermore, validated numerical models are used to study the load transferring mechanism and damage progression characteristics of various anchors systems where strength of concrete, strength of epoxy, and geometry and disposition of anchors are the parameters. The process of development of strain in concrete adjacent to the anchor and energy dissipated during the course of damage progression are analysed. Results show that the performance of the considered anchorage system is, though a combined effect of material and geometric parameters, but a clear distinction could be made on the parameters to achieve a desired performance based on strength, slip, strain development or dissipated energy. Inspite the increase in anchor capacity with increase in concrete strength, it brings some undesirable performance as well. Furthermore, the pullout capacity of the chemical anchor system increases with a decrease in disparity among the strength of concrete and epoxy.

  • The ozonation of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) was performed at 20℃ using a pilot scale countercurrent bubble column reactor. Ozonation systems were combined with UV irradiation and TiO2 addition. As the oxidation reaction proceeded in each treatment system, the pH of the sample decreased and in the O3/UV/TiO2 system, the pH change was the largest from 4.54 to 2.02. Under these experimental conditions, the scavenger impact of carbonate is negligible. The highest COD and TOC removal rate was observed in the O3/UV/TiO2 system due to the UV irradiation and the photocatalytic effect of TiO2. Also, the highest mineralization ratio(ε) value is 0.2 in the O3/UV/TiO2 system, which means theoxidation capacity of the systems. The highest SMX degradation rate constants calculated by COD and TOC values (COD and TOC) were 2.15 × 10-4 sec-1 and 1.00 × 10-4 sec-1 in the O3/UV/TiO2 system, respectively. The activation energy (Ea) of ozone treatment follows the Arrhenius law. It was calculated based on COD and TOC. Each activation energy decreased in order of single O3> O3/TiO2> O3/UV > O3/UV/TiO2 system. The result showed that ΔH is more effective than ΔS in each SMX ozontaionsystem, that is characteristic of the common oxidation reaction.

  • Purpose: To compare audio-only biofeedback to conventional audiovisual biofeedback for regulating patients' respiration during four-dimensional radiotherapy, limiting damage to healthy surrounding tissues caused by organ movement. Materials and Methods: Six healthy volunteers were assisted by audiovisual or audio-only biofeedback systems to regulate their respirations. Volunteers breathed through a mask developed for this study by following computer-generated guiding curves displayed on a screen, combined with instructional sounds. They then performed breathing following instructional sounds only. The guiding signals and the volunteers' respiratory signals were logged at 20 samples per second. Results: The standard deviations between the guiding and respiratory curves for the audiovisual and audio-only biofeedback systems were 21.55% and 23.19%, respectively; the average correlation coefficients were 0.9778 and 0.9756, respectively. The regularities between audiovisual and audio-only biofeedback for six volunteers' respirations were same statistically from the paired t-test. Conclusion: The difference between the audiovisual and audio-only biofeedback methods was not significant. Audio-only biofeedback has many advantages, as patients do not require a mask and can quickly adapt to this method in the clinic.

  • Attacking computer systems using ransomware is very common all over the world. Since antivirus and detection methods are constantly improved in order to detect and mitigate ransomware, the ransomware itself becomes equally better to avoid detection. Several new methods are implemented and tested in order to optimize the protection against ransomware. In our work, 582 of ransomware and 942 of normalware sample data along with 30,967 dynamic action sequence variables are used to detect ransomware efficiently. Several variable selection techniques combined with various machine learning based classification techniques are tried to protect systems from ransomwares. Among various combinations, chi-square variable selection and random forest gives the best detection rates and accuracy.

  • The Re-Identification(Re-ID) is one of the most popular researches in the field of computer vision due to a variety of applications. To achieve a high-level re-identification performance, recently other methods have developed the deep learning based networks that are specialized for only person or vehicle. However, most of the current methods are difficult to be used in real-world applications that require re-identification of both person and vehicle at the same time. To overcome this limitation, this paper proposes a deep neural network learning method that combines triplet and softmax loss to improve performance and re-identify people and vehicles simultaneously. It's possible to learn the detailed difference between the identities(IDs) by combining the softmax loss with the triplet loss. In addition, weights are devised to avoid bias in one-side loss when combining. We used Market-1501 and DukeMTMC-reID datasets, which are frequently used to evaluate person re-identification experiments. Moreover, the vehicle re-identification experiment was evaluated by using VeRi-776 and VehicleID datasets. Since the proposed method does not designed for a neural network specialized for a specific object, it can re-identify simultaneously both person and vehicle. To demonstrate this, an experiment was performed by using a person and vehicle re-identification dataset together.

  • As a practical means to upgrade urban sustainability, this paper focuses on resource cyclical systems concerned with the waste of electric and electronic equipment (WEEE) in Korea. Borrowing System Dynamics concepts and approaches, it examines behavioral changes of WEEE dynamics to observe whether the existing management methods can be readjusted. The measurement is based upon both reuse and material and thermal recycle simulation works in the individual stage of WEEE discharge, collection, and treatment, going beyond the traditional recycle-only customs. This research estimates that the newly introduced Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system would definitely exert a significant impact on the final stage of WEEE treatment, decreasing the final treatment volume in the first half of the research period. The trend, nonetheless, would be reversed in the second half, mainly owing to the additional waste volume originated from the local government and recycling center. Sensitivity analysis poses, among others, that the local government-supported reuse center should take charge of a pivotal role in the long run. The research also shows that sufficientand necessary conditions for the WEEE management and treatment should be given to the combined efforts, both from the private sectors and the public domains. Based on these research findings, the paper recommends that key stakeholders including the producer and the public organizations should devise how to jointly carry out specific agenda centered around partnership or network buildings.

  • Though there is an abundant supply of nitrogen in the atmosphere, it cannot be used directly by the biological systems since it has to be combined with the element hydrogen before their incorporation. This process of nitrogen fixation ($N_2$-fixation) may be accomplished either chemically or biologically. Between the two elements, biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) is a microbiological process that converts atmospheric di-nitrogen ($N_2$) into plant-usable form. In this review, the genetics and mechanism of nitrogen fixation including genes responsible for it, their types and role in BNF are discussed in detail. Nitrogen fixation in the different agricultural systems using different methods is discussed to understand the actual rather than the potential $N_2$-fixation procedure. The mechanism by which the diazotrophic bacteria improve plant growth apart from nitrogen fixation such as inhibition of plant ethylene synthesis, improvement of nutrient uptake, stress tolerance enhancement, solubilization of inorganic phosphate and mineralization of organic phosphate is also discussed. Role of diazotrophic bacteria in the enhancement of nitrogen fixation is also dealt with suitable examples. This mini review attempts to address the importance of diazotrophic bacteria in nitrogen fixation and plant growth improvement.

  • The Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE)-based modeling systems have been widely used to simulate soil erosion studies. However the GIS-based USLE modeling systems have limitation in gully erosion evaluation which is one of the most important factor in soil erosion estimation. In this study, the integrated soil erosion evaluation system using with Sediment Assessment Tool for Effective Erosion Control (SATEEC) system, nLS and Unit Stream Power-based Erosion/Deposition (USPED) model was developed to simulate gully erosion. Gully head location using nLS model, USPED for gully erosion, and the SATEEC estimated sheet and rill erosion were evaluated and combined together with the integrated soil erosion evaluation system. This system was applied to the Haean-myeon watershed, annual average sediment-yield considering sheet, rill and gully erosion was simulated as 101,933 ton/year at the study watershed. if the integrated soil erosion evaluation system is calibrated and validated with the measured data, this system could be efficiently used in developing site-specific soil erosion best management system to reduce soil erosion and muddy water inflow into the receiving waterbody.

  • Combined sewer solid deposition during dry weather periods and their resuspension during wet weather periods has long been recognized as a major contributor to the first-flush phenomenon. Also, these deposition of sewer solids results in a loss of flow capacity that may restrict flow and cause a local flooding at urban area. In order to solve these problems, measurement of solid deposition for a given sewer system for extended period is needed but this task is very difficult and extremely expensive. This paper presents the development and applicability of estimation equations for solid deposition in sewer systems based on the solid deposition estimated using MOUSE model. As results, the comparison between estimated and measured solid deposition is difficult due to the absent of measured data, but the estimated values using developed equations show applicability compared with the results of MOUSE model and the estimation equations developed by the EPA.

  • Accumulation of sediment within pipelines, manholes, and other components of urban sewer systems can have a bad influence on sewerage arrangements, such as the resistance of the passage of flows, the cause of urban flooding and the premature operation of combined sewer overflows, and the inevitable pollution of watercourses. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the movements and sedimentation of sediment loads in combining junction manholes by experiments. In this study, hydraulic experimental apparatus which can change the manhole shapes (square, circle) were installed to measure deposited sedimentation quantity. The quantity of deposited sediment loads was measured by different conditions, for instance, the inflow conditions of sediment (continuous and certain period), the amount of inflow sediment, and the variation of inflow pipe of sediment. The combining junction manhole that was set up a inclined benching have the considerable effect of reduction of sedimentation in manholes without apropos of the change of manhole shapes. Therefore, the improved manhole could be increased the drainage capacity of sewerage arrangements in urban sewer systems.
