Nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete frame under lateral load

  • This study aims to investigate the capacity of different models to reproduce the nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete framed structures. To accomplish this goal, a combined experimental and analytical research program was carried out on a large scaled reinforced concrete frame. Analyses were performed by SAP2000 and compared to experimental and VecTor2 results. Models made in SAP2000 differ in the simulation of the plasticity and the type of the frame elements used to discretize the frame structure. The results obtained allow a better understanding of the characteristics of all numerical models, helping the users to choose the best approach to perform nonlinear analysis.

  • On-machine measuring system of Numerically Control(NC) machines permit computer control of basic material cutting processes of moulds. A part of mould designed within a CAD/CAM system can be manufactured by generation of tool paths by the measuring systems. Since the three-dimensional geometry by AutoCAD of the part is contained in the data base, the manufacturing specialist combined with the appropriate software simulation, can not only create the commands to drive the virtual measuring and standardization of measuring modules but also can check for mistakes by viewing the computer graphics simulation of the tool cutting sequence.

  • Coal is one of the most abundant and cheapest energy sources in the earth, but its typical combustion product, $CO_2$, is related with serious recent environmental issues such as global warming. The Integrated Coal Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) with $CO_2$ sequestration is one of the most promising options to produce electricity using a relatively cheap fuel (coal) with minimum impact on environment. In IGCC power generation systems, some chemical reactions are required to gasify coal to produce syngases such as $H_2$ and CO, which would be burnt in the combustor to produce heat for power generation, with a penalty of additional energy consumption. In this paper, several chemical reactions for the gasification of coal are considered and their characteristics are investigated.

  • The increasing demands for the recently released CPU which has had higher heat density, the confined space of desktop PCs, and so on are the main drive for continuously improving PC cooling systems. In order to meet number of demands, this paper describes the flow and thermal behavior of the heat sink combined with heat pipes, and a fan through the numerical analysis by using the computational fluid dynamics(CFD) code and discusses how to extend the cooling capability.

An Effective Control Chart for Monitoring Mean Shift in AR(1) Processes (AR(1) 공정에서의 효과적인 공정평균 관리도)

  • A standard assumption when using a control chart to monitor a process is that the observations from the process output are statistically independent. However, for many processes the observations are autocorrelated and this autocorrelation can have a significant effect on the performance of the control chart. In this paper, we consider combined control chart of monitoring the mean of a process in which the observations can be modeled as a first-order autoregressive process. The Shewhart control chart of residuals-EWMA control chart of the observations is considered and the method of combination is recommended. The performance of the proposed control chart is compared with the performance of other control charts using a simulation.

  • A synthesis of fuzzy variable structure control is proposed to design a high-angle-of-attack flight system for a modification version of the F-18 aircraft. The knowledge of the proportional, integral, and derivative control is combined into the fuzzy control that addresses both the highly nonlinear aerodynamic characteristics of elevators and the control limit of thrust vectoring nozzles. A simple gain scheduling method with multi-layered fuzzy rules is adopted to obtain an appropriate blend of elevator and thrust vectoring commands in the wide operating range. Improving the computational efficiency, an accelerated kernel for on-line fuzzy reasoning is also proposed. The resulting control system achieves the good flying quantities during a high-angle-of- attack excursion. Thus the fuzzy logic can afford the control engineer a flexible means of deriving effective control laws in the nonlinear flight regime.

  • In this paper, we propose a bit synchronizer which is suitable for frequency hopping systems. The proposed bit synchronizer is an ADPLL in which the digital loop filter is combined with an error symbol detecting circuit. Suppressing the tracking process, when hop mute and impulse noises are detected, improves the performance of the digital loop filter and enhances the probability of the frequency hopping system. Simulation results demonstrate an improved performance of the proposed bit synchronizer compared with existing ones.

  • In present, advanced countries in the world are seen concentring on Military Transformation to create new military capability as there is a shift in Warfare Paradigm. Rapid development of technology enables military system, operational concept and organization innovated. As a result, Revolution in Military Affairs(RMA) that dramatically increased warfighting capability is pursued. Especially, advanced information technology constructs system of systems with abilities of battle visualization, information sharing in battlefield, long-range strike capability that are interoperable and combined. Corresponding to this, engagement methods and organizations are being progressively developed. The purpose of this thesis is overview of newly developing Warfare Paradigm and analysis of tendency of Military Transformation that advanced countries are pursuing preparation to this. Above all, specific aspects and contents of the Warfare Paradigm which emerged by information age were summarized. Subsequently, Military Transformation which provides the basic concepts and principles to the advanced countries in the world for the creation of new military capability was discussed. In conclusion, the tendency of Military Transformation by U.S.A, Japan, China, and Russia surround the Korean peninsular as the major power in military was carefully observed.

  • A computer program was developed for the analysis of the coupled transverse vibrations of a multi-supported shaft system. The program, based on the theory of Transfer Matrix Method, was written including the system parameters such as the entrained water and gyroscopic effects of the propeller, the rigidity of bearing combined with the oil film effect, and the whirling frequency of the shaft. The program was used to calculate the resonance frequency of the shafting system of the ship Hanbada. The results show good agreement with the measured values. The results are also compared with those of F.E.M. from the comparison, it is found that both results agree well with each other.

  • EPC seeks to minimize variability by transferring the output variable to a related process input(controllable) variable, while SPC seeks to reduce variability by detecting and eliminating assignable causes of variation. Tn the case of product control, a very reasonable objective is to try to minimize the variance of the output deviations from the target or set point. We consider an alternative EPC model with second-order autoregressed disturbance. We compare three control systems; EPC, EPC combined system with EWMA, CUSUM and Shewhart. This paper shows through simulation that the performance of the integrated model of EPC and SPC is more preferable than that of EPC.
