Accurate prediction of time-dependent column shortening is essential for tall buildings in both strength and serviceability aspects. The uncertainty associated with assumed values for concrete properties such as strength, creep, and shrinkage coefficients should be considered for the prediction of time-dependent column shortening of tall concrete buildings. In this study, the column shortenings of 41-story tall concrete building are predicted using monte carlo simulation technique based on the probabilistic analysis. The probabilistic column shortenings considering confidence intervals are compared with the actual column shortenings by field measurement. The time-dependent strains measured at tall bearing wall building were generally lower than the predicted strains and the measured values fell within a range ${\mu}-1.64$, confidence level 90%.
The depropanizing, debutanizing and deisobutanizing fractionation steps of processing natural gas liquids were improved through studying complex distillation arrangements, including the double dividing wall column arrangement (DDWC), the sequence including a dividing wall column (DWC) and a bottom DWC (BDWC), and the sequence including a DWC and a BDWC with top vapor recompression heat pump. These arrangements offer benefits by decreasing reboiler and condenser power consumption. Reducing the number of columns and their diameters can potentially reduce construction costs. The result also showed that operating cost could be reduced most significantly through novel combinations of internal and external heat integration: bottom dividing wall columns employing a top vapor recompression heat pump.

LPG is increasingly being used as a clean energy source due to the continuous strengthening of environmental regulations. In addition, the demand of propane which is the basic compound for petrochemicals is increasing for propylene production. In the study, a divided wall column was used as de-propanizer and de-butanizer, which is expected to save large amount of energy among the four conventional distillation columns used for processing LPG. The simulation results showed a decrease of energy duty with ESI by 30.30% using two divided wall columns. Furthermore, simulation case studies were carried out with respect to design and operation condition. The main column tray and withdrawal tray were determined from the design case studies while the internal liquid flow and vapor flow were decided from the operating case studies. Also, ESI of 1.06% could be achieved from the case studies. According to the results, the simulation method used showed that it is greatly helpful to the design and evaluate a highly efficient divided wall column.
The effectiveness of the repair scheme for the damaged captive-columns with CFRPs (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) was investigated in terms of response quantities such as strength, ductility, dissipated energy and stiffness degradation. Two 1/3 scale, one-story one-bay RC (Reinforced Concrete) frames were designed to represent the substandard RC buildings in Turkish building stock. The first one, which is the reference specimen, is the bare frame without infill wall. Partial infill wall with opening was constructed between the columns of the second frame and this caused captive column defect. Severe damage was observed with the concentration of shear cracks in the second specimen columns. Then, the damaged members were repaired by CFRP wrapping and retested. For the three test series, similar reversed cyclic lateral displacement under combined effect of axial load was applied to the top of the columns. Overall response of the bare frame was dominated by flexural cracks. Brittle type of shear failure in the column top ends was observed in the specimen with partial infill wall. It was observed that former capacity of damaged members of the second frame was recovered by the applied repair scheme. Moreover, ultimate displacement capacity of the damaged frame was improved considerably by CFRP wrapping.

A 1257-m-long irregular deep foundation pit located in the central of Nanjing, China was constructed using the combined full-width and half-width top-down method. Based on the long-term field monitoring data, this study analyzed the evolution characteristics of the vertical movement of the columns, internal force of the struts, and axial force of the structural beam and slab. The relevance of the three mentioned above and their relationship with the excavation process, structural system, and geological conditions were also investigated. The results showed that the column uplift was within the range of 0.08% to 0.22% of the excavation depth, and the embedded depth ratio of the diaphragm wall and the bottom heave affected significantly on the column uplift. The differential settlement between the column and diaphragm wall remained unchanged after the base slab was cast. The final settlement of the diaphragm wall was twice the column uplift. The internal force of the struts did not varied monotonically but was related to numerous factors such as the excavation depth, number of struts, and environmental conditions. Additionally, the dynamic force and deformation of the columns, beams, and slabs were analyzed to investigate the inherent relationship and variation patterns of the responses of different parts of the structure.
This paper studied the Pingzuo(平坐) platform structure of the two story building covered with one roof during the early period of Tang dynasty, based on wall paintings, stone pagodas, brick buildings and wooden buildings might be influenced by the Tang style. Instead of Chazhuzao(叉柱造), the typical column linkage in the Song, Liao and Jin buildings, it put the boundary column just behind the wall of a bracket set. Otherwise, the column root might be seen from outside, because its bracket set was still using Touxinzao(偸心造) which did not have a lateral arm on it. And its flooring structure was also different from the Song style, it used cantilever beams instead of lateral beams supported by bracket sets.
Flat-plate building systems are utilized extensively for construction of apartments, hotels and office buildings because of short construction period, low floor-to-floor height and flexibility in plan design. Recently, to increase lateral seismic resistance of flat-plate building systems, wall-columns are used frequently. Therefore, to estimate strength of flat-plate column connection accurately, the effect of column section shape on the behavior of flat-plate column connection should be considered properly, In the present study, a numerical analysis was performed for interior connections of continuous flat-plate to analyze the effect of column section shape. For the purpose, a computer program for nonlinear FE analysis was developed, and the validity was verified. Through the parametric study, the variations of shear stress distribution around the connection were investigated. According to the result of numerical analysis, as the length of the cross section of column in the direction of lateral load increases, the effective area and the maximum shear strength providing the torsional resistance decrease considerably. Therefore, these effects should be considered properly to estimate the strength of flat-plate connection accurately.

In this paper the attention is focused on the modeling of reinforced concrete(R/C) wall structures to check effectiveness and reliability of elasto-plastic analysis. A relatively simple and reliable wall model is investigated, which is suitable to be efficiently incorporated in a practical pushover analysis of R/C wall structural systems. Two types of analogous frames have been examined to the stress analysis of shear walls. One analogous frame is similar to the widely used wide-column model, the second analogous frame also is called truss model which includes vertical edge column and braces. Further studies are needed to apply to nonlinear seismic analysis of building structure with R/C shear walls.
Rhodotorula glutinis K-24 was found to produce internal, cell wall bound, and external invertase. Internal invertase was purified by column chromatographies on DEAE-Sephadex A-50, Sp-sephadex C-50, gel filtration on Sephadex G-200 and isoelectric focusing. Cell wall bound invertase was partially purified by the following procedures; column chromatography on DEAE-Sephadex A-50 and gel filtration on Sephadex G-100. Optimum pH and temperature for enzymatic activities of internal and cell wall bound invertase were pH 3.0 and 6$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. Both enzymes were inhibited by HgC1$_2$, AgNO$_3$, MnSO$_4$, and sodium dodecylsulfate. The molecular weights of internal and cell wall bound invertases were estimated to be 310,000 and 61,000, respectively. Other physicochemical properties of the both enzymes were similar.
Cyclic behaviour of composite (steel-concrete) plate shear walls (CPSW) with variable column flexural stiffness is experimentally and numerically investigated. The investigation included design, fabrication and testing of three pairs of one-bay one-storey CPSW specimens. The reference specimen pair was designed in way that its column flexural stiffness corresponds to the value required by the design codes, while within the other two specimen pairs column flexural stiffness was reduced by 18% and 36%, respectively. Specimens were subjected to quasi-static cyclic tests. Obtained results indicate that column flexural stiffness reduction in CPSW does not have negative impact on the overall behaviour allowing for satisfactory performance for up to 4% storey drift ratio while also enabling inelastic buckling of the infill steel plate. Additionally, in comparison to similar steel plate shear wall (SPSW) specimens, column "pull-in" deformations are less pronounced within CPSW specimens. Therefore, the results indicate that prescribed minimal column flexural stiffness value used for CPSW might be conservative, and can additionally be reduced when compared to the prescribed value for SPSWs. Furthermore, finite element (FE) pushover simulations were conducted using shell and solid elements. Such FE models can adequately simulate cyclic behaviour of CPSW and as such could be further used for numerical parametric analyses. It is necessary to mention that the implemented pushover FE models were not able to adequately reproduce column "pull-in" deformation and that further development of FE simulations is required where cyclic loading of the shear walls needs to be simulated.
