The non-face-to-face environment accelerated by COVID-19 has speeded up the dissemination of digital virtual ecosystems and metaverse. In order for the metaverse to be sustainable, digital twins that are compatible with the real world are key, and critical technology for that is AR (Augmented Reality). In this study, we examined research trends about AR, and will propose the directions for future AR research. We conducted LDA based topic modeling on 11,049 abstracts of published domestic and foreign AR related papers from 2009 to Mar 2022, and then looked into AR that was comprehensive research trends, comparison of domestic and foreign research trends, and research trends before and after the popularity of metaverse concepts. As a result, the topics of AR related research were deduced from 11 topics such as device, network communication, surgery, digital twin, education, serious game, camera/vision, color application, therapy, location accuracy, and interface design. After popularity of metaverse, 6 topics were deduced such as camera/vision, training, digital twin, surgical/surgical, interaction performance, and network communication. We will expect, through this study, to encourage active research on metaverse AR with convergent characteristics in multidisciplinary fields and contribute to giving useful implications to practitioners.
The rock surface of Bangudae petroglyphs is mainly dark brown hornfelsified shales by contact metamorphism. The surface form a weathered layer of a invariable depth, and there is a difference with mineral and chemical composition between weathered and non-weathered layers. Surface of the petroglyphs has been discolored to light brown over the face due to biological and chemical weathering. As the measuring chromaticity based on the non-weathered layer, the whiteness and yellowness increased in the weathered layer, and the color difference (ΔE) was 5.54 to 36.89 (mean 17.26). In the weathered layer of the petroglyph surface, the CaO content was reduced by about 90% compared to the non-weathered layer, and Sr also showed the same trend. In particular, the mean porosity of the non-weathered layer was 0.4%, but it was estimated as 25.0% in the weathered layer. This is interpreted as the fact that calcite reacts with water, and forms a weathered layer from the surface as it is eluted. Based on the weathering depth modeling of the petroglyphs using the penetration characteristics of X-rays, the weathering depth of rock faces was found to be 1 to 2mm. However, the area classified as 2mm or more estimated to be a maximum of 3 to 4mm, considering the weathering depth around the petroglyphs surface.

Affective computing plays an important role in intelligent Human Computer Interactions(HCI). To detect emotional events, it is desirable to construct a computing model for extracting emotion related features from video. In this paper, we propose a statistical model based on the probabilistic distribution of low level features in video shots. The proposed method extracts low level features from video shots and then from a GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model) for them to detect emotional shots. As low level features, we use color, camera motion and sequence of shot lengths. The features can be modeled as a GMM by using EM(Expectation Maximization) algorithm and the relations between time and emotions are estimated by MLE(Maximum Likelihood Estimation). Finally, the two statistical models are combined together using Bayesian framework to detect emotional events in video.
This paper addressed a recognition method of land registration map based on fuzzy inference scheme, which is able to solve the time complexity problem of typical method [Fig. 2]. Not only line color, thickness but also number, character are used as a fuzzy input parameter. It concentrated on generation of fuzzy association map, and useful informations are extracted result from fuzzy inference. These results are precedent process for estimating the construction space and restoring 3D automatic modeling. It can also utilize to the internet service acceleration propulsion business such as u-Gov based land registration service.
A powerful interaction mechanism is one of the key elements for the success of smart TVs, which demand far more complex interactions than traditional TVs. This paper proposes a novel interface based on the famous touch interaction model but utilizes long-range bare hand tracking to emulate touch actions. To satisfy the essential requirements of high accuracy and immediate response, the proposed hand tracking algorithm adopts a fast color-based tracker but with modifications to avoid the problems inherent to those algorithms. By using online modeling and motion information, the sensitivity to the environment can be greatly decreased. Furthermore, several ideas to solve the problems often encountered by users interacting with smart TVs are proposed, resulting in a very robust hand tracking algorithm that works superbly, even for users with sleeveless clothing. In addition, the proposed algorithm runs at a very high speed of 82.73 Hz. The proposed interface is confirmed to comfortably support most touch operations, such as clicks, swipes, and drags, at a distance of three meters, which makes the proposed interface a good candidate for interaction with smart TVs.

Person re-identification is an important and challenging task in computer vision with numerous real world applications. Despite significant progress has been made in the past few years, person re-identification remains an unsolved problem. This paper presents a novel appearance-based approach to person re-identification. The approach exploits region covariance matrix and color histograms to capture the statistical properties and chromatic information of each object. Robustness against low resolution, viewpoint changes and pose variations is achieved by a novel signature, that is, the combination of Log Covariance Matrix feature and HSV histogram (LCMH). In order to further improve re-identification performance, third-party image sets are utilized as a common reference to sufficiently represent any image set with the same type. Distinctive and reliable features for a given image set are extracted through decision boundary between the specific set and a third-party image set supervised by max-margin criteria. This method enables the usage of an existing dataset to represent new image data without time-consuming data collection and annotation. Comparisons with state-of-the-art methods carried out on benchmark datasets demonstrate promising performance of our method.

Infrared (IR) imaging has been researched for various applications such as surveillance. IR radiation has the capability to detect thermal characteristics of objects under low-light conditions. However, automatic segmentation for finding the object of interest would be challenging since the IR detector often provides the low spatial and contrast resolution image without color and texture information. Another hindrance is that the image can be degraded by noise and clutters. This paper proposes multi-level segmentation for extracting regions of interest (ROIs) and objects of interest (OOIs) in the IR scene. Each level of the multi-level segmentation is composed of a k-means clustering algorithm, an expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm, and a decision process. The k-means clustering initializes the parameters of the Gaussian mixture model (GMM), and the EM algorithm estimates those parameters iteratively. During the multi-level segmentation, the area extracted at one level becomes the input to the next level segmentation. Thus, the segmentation is consecutively performed narrowing the area to be processed. The foreground objects are individually extracted from the final ROI windows. In the experiments, the effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated using several IR images, in which human subjects are captured at a long distance. The average probability of error is shown to be lower than that obtained from other conventional methods such as Gonzalez, Otsu, k-means, and EM methods.
Recent observations have shown that some massive globular clusters (GCs) host multiple stellar populations having different heavy element abundances enriched by supernovae. They usually accompany multiple red giant branches (RGBs) in the color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs), and are distinguished from most of the other GCs which display variations only in light element abundances. In order to investigate the star formation histories of these peculiar GCs, we have constructed synthetic CMDs based on the updated versions of Yonsei.Yale ($Y^2$) isochrones and horizontal branch evolutionary tracks which include the cases of enhancements in both helium and the total CNO abundances. To estimate ages and helium abundances of subpopulations in each GC, we have compared our models with the observations on the Hess diagram by employing a ${\chi}^2$ minimization technique. In this talk, we will present our progress in the population modeling for these GCs with multiple RGBs.

Most existing salient object detection algorithms commonly employed segmentation techniques to eliminate background noise and reduce computation by treating each segment as a processing unit. However, individual small segments provide little information about global contents. Such schemes have limited capability on modeling global perceptual phenomena. In this paper, a novel salient object detection algorithm is proposed based on region merging. An adaptive-based merging scheme is developed to reassemble regions based on their color dissimilarities. The merging strategy can be described as that a region R is merged with its adjacent region Q if Q has the lowest dissimilarity with Q among all Q's adjacent regions. To guide the merging process, superpixels that located at the boundary of the image are treated as the seeds. However, it is possible for a boundary in the input image to be occupied by the foreground object. To avoid this case, we optimize the boundary influences by locating and eliminating erroneous boundaries before the region merging. We show that even though three simple region saliency measurements are adopted for each region, encouraging performance can be obtained. Experiments on four benchmark datasets including MSRA-B, SOD, SED and iCoSeg show the proposed method results in uniform object enhancement and achieve state-of-the-art performance by comparing with nine existing methods.
This paper introduces a new multi-product multi-period multi-objective aggregate production planning problem. The proposed problem is modeled using multi-objective mixed-integer mathematical programming. Three objective functions, including minimizing total cost, maximizing customer services level, and maximizing the quality of end-product, are considered, simultaneously. Several constraints such as quantity of production, available time, work force levels, inventory levels, backordering levels, machine capacity, warehouse space and available budget are also considered. Some parameters of the proposed model are assumed to be qualitative and modeled using fuzzy sets. Then, a fuzzy goal programming approach is proposed to solve the model. The proposed approach is applied on a real-world industrial case study of a color and resin production company called Teiph-Saipa. The approach is coded using LINGO software. The efficacy and applicability of the proposed approach are illustrated in the case study. The results of proposed approach are compared with those of the existing experimental methods used in the company. The relative dominance of the proposed approach is revealed in comparison with the experimental method. Finally, a data dictionary, including the way of gathering data for running the model, is proposed in order to facilitate the re-implementation of the model for future development and case studies.
