  • Object segmentation is a demanding research area and not a trivial problem of image processing and computer vision. Tremendous segmentation algorithms were addressed on gray-scale (or biomedical) images that rely on numerous image features as well as their strategies. These works in practice cannot apply to natural color images because of their negative effects to color values due to the use of gray-scale gradient information. In this paper, we proposed a new approach for color object segmentation by modifying a geometric active contour model named distance regularized level set evolution (DRLSE). Its speed function will be designed to exploit as much as possible color gradient information of images. Finally, we provide experiments to show performance of our method with respect to its accuracy and time efficiency using various color images.

  • Generally, correction methods for faded images use illuminant estimation algorithms, such as the gray world assumption and white patch Retinex methods, as the phenomenon of color fading is regarded as an illuminant effect. However, this induces inaccurate faded color correction, as images fade at different rates according to the ink property, temperature, humidity, and illuminant. Therefore, this paper presents a color correction method for faded images using classification in LCybCrg color space. The input faded image is first separated according to the chromaticity based on LCybCrg opponent color space. The faded color correction is then performed based on the gray world assumption in RGB color space. Thereafter, weights calculated from CybCrg values are applied to reduce contour artifacts. As a result, the proposed method provides better color correction for faded images than previous methods.

  • Public uniforms play an important role in creating the color and image of urban environment beyond the level of simple working clothes for unity and practicality. Hence this study aims to compare and analyze the color characteristics and images of the police officer, fire fighter, and street cleaner uniforms at home and abroad to guarantee the wearer's safety, increase convenience and agreeability, and give emotional satisfaction to citizens in harmony with urban environment color as public uniforms. For study methods, literature review investigated urban environment, color, and uniforms as public design. Empirical study extracted color data from the public worker uniforms of the world's top 20 cities selected by 'Newsweek' in 2010 and analyzed their colors, tones, and color images. The results of this study are as follows. The most common color for police uniforms were PB(dk) as the main color, PB(p) as the sub color, and Wh as the accent color. For fire fighter uniforms, PB(dkg) was the most common main color; GY(v), as the sub color; and ItGy, as the accent color. The most common color for street cleaner uniforms was YR(v) as the main color; GY(v), as the sub color; and mGy, as the accent color. As a result of analyzing color images of these uniforms, it was found that police uniforms commonly used a modern image; fire fighter uniforms commonly used a natural image and a cool casual image; and street cleaner uniforms commonly used a casual image. As examined above, the color of public uniforms suitable for urban environment and job characteristics is very important to establish the image of public institutions, as well as to create an urban image.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate emotional images and preference of knitwear by tone on tone combination. The subjects were 357 university students in Daejeon and Chungnam province, and the measuring instruments were 6 stimuli manipulated by color and tone combination type of background and pattern in the tone and tone combination, and self-administrated questionnaires consisted of emotional images items, preference items, and subjects' demographics attributions. The data were analyzed by Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, factor analysis, t-test, MANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test, using SPSS program. The results were as follows. First, four factors (attractiveness, conspicuity, mildness, and activity) are emerged on emotional images of knitwear. Second, color had main effects on emotional images and preference. Gray color was perceived as most attractive image and more preferred than others. Third, tone combination type had some effects on emotional images. Vivid tone background/light tone pattern was perceived more attractive image but less conspicuous and mild than light tone background/vivid tone pattern. Forth, subjects' gender had an effects on conspicuous image. Male was perceived more conspicuous image on knitwear stimuli than female. Fifth, color and subjects' gender had interaction effects on attractiveness image and preference. Male perceived that blue is more attractive and preferred than female.

  • Color-normal observers (CNOs) and color-deficient observers (CDOs) have different preferences and emotions for color images. A color-image quality-enhancement algorithm for a CDO is developed to easily adjust images according to each observer's preference or image quality factors. The color-perception differences between CDO and CNO are analyzed and modeled in terms of the YCbCr chroma ratio and hue difference; then the color-shift method is designed to control the degree of color difference.

  • Color inverse halftoning is the transformation of a color-halftone image to a continuous-tone color image that is more natural in human vision. In this paper, we propose a new smoothing mask that can remove halftone patterns in channel effectively and we apply it to color inverse halftoning. The proposed smoothing mask can make channel images more smooth and natural in human vision than traditional ones. Its characteristic can be adapted automatically according to the various color halftone images. We analyze the result images in various aspects through experiments. Experimental results show that the mask is useful for color inverse halftoning. It can be applied to field of multimedia application, such as desktop publishing, color facsimile and digital library construction.

  • To confirm the performance and benefit of the developed online E-commerce Real Industrial Color(RIC) device, cotton and polyester were dyed with selected 39 colors. The captured images of dyed cotton and polyester by using RIC device were compared with original samples and confirmed ${\Delta}E$ using a spectrophotometer and RIC device. Overall, visual comparison of the captured images was similar to the real dyed samples. In high concentration of dyeings, the color consistency between real samples and captured images was better than in lower color concentration of dyeings. Similarly, the result was almost the same when the developed RIC device was used since ${\Delta}E$ values of RIC device were smaller compared with spectrophotometer. In this regards, the RIC device developed up to date can be assumed that it is more influenced by the color rather than fabric materials.

  • This paper proposes color transformation of images based on user's preference. Traditional color transformation method transforms only hue based on existing templates that define range of harmonious hue. It does not change saturation and intensity. Users would appreciate the resulting images that adjusted unnatural hue of images. Since color is closely related to peoples' emotion, we can enhance interaction of emotion-based contents and technologies. Therefore, in this paper, we define the range of color of each emotion for the transformation of color and perform the transformation of hue, saturation and intensity. However, the relationship of color and emotion depends on the culture and environment. To reflect these characteristics in color transformation, we propose the transformation of color that is based on user's preference and as a result, people would be more satisfied. We adopt interactive genetic algorithm to learn about user's preference. We surveyed the subject to analyze user's satisfaction about transformed images that are based on preference, and we found that people prefer transformed images to original images. Therefore, we conclude that people are more satisfied with the transformation of the templates which reflected user's preference than the one that did not.

  • This paper proposes a new color segmentation method of vehicle license plates in the RGB color space. Firstly, the proposed method shifts the histogram of an input image rightwards and then stretches the image of the histogram slide. Secondly, the method separates each of the three RGB color components and performs the adaptive threshold processing with the three components, respectively. Finally, it combines the three components under the condition of making up a segment color and removes noises with the morphological processing. The proposed method is implemented using C language in an embedded Linux system for a high-speed real-time image processing. Experiments were conducted by using real vehicle images. The results show that the proposed algorithm is successful for most vehicle images. However, the method fails in some vehicles when the body and the license plate have the same color.

  • This paper proposed the face tracking method which can be effectively applied to the robot's vision system. The proposed algorithm tracks the facial areas after detecting the area of video motion. Movement detection of video images is done by using median filter and erosion and dilation operation as a method for removing noise, after getting the different images using two continual frames. To extract the skin color from the moving area, the color information of sample images is used. The skin color region and the background area are separated by evaluating the similarity by generating membership functions by using MIN-MAX values as fuzzy data. For the face candidate region, the eyes are detected from C channel of color space CMY, and the mouth from Q channel of color space YIQ. The face region is tracked seeking the features of the eyes and the mouth detected from knowledge-base. Experiment includes 1,500 frames of the video images from 10 subjects, 150 frames per subject. The result shows 95.7% of detection rate (the motion areas of 1,435 frames are detected) and 97.6% of good face tracking result (1,401 faces are tracked).
