A Study of Onion Skin Pigments in the Extracting Solvents and Residual Pigments after Dyeing the Textiles

  • To set up the outstanding and scientific dyeing method in making the condensed liquid of pigment obtained from onion skins and the improved reliability, the following basic experiments were performed. The pigment was extracted in the distilled water at $70^{\circ}C$ and methanol at room temperature and then it was analyzed with LC/MS/MS system (Liquid Chomatography/Mass Spectroscopy/Mass Spectroscophy, LIQ Advantage Max, Thermo Finnigan, USA) for its pigmental characteristics. The unrefined silk and refined silk were dyed by making use of the derived pigment in such a way. The chromameter (CR-200, Minolta, Japan) was used to measure the change in surface color in textiles to be dyed by the extracting condition and the color difference ${\Delta}E$ was determined according to the color difference formula CIE LAB through measuring the psychometric lightness L* and chromaticity coordinates a* and b*.

도공층 구조 및 도공지의 인쇄적성에 관한 연구(제3보) - 도공용 안료와 이온성 라텍스와의 상호작용이 도공지 품질에 미치는 영향 - (Studies on the Coating Structure and Printability of Coated Paper(III) - Effect of the interaction with pigments and ionic latices on the property of coated paper -)

  • 가장 보편적으로 사용되고 있는 도공용 안료인 클레이와 탄산칼슘의 배합비율을 실제 도공공정의 안료 혼합비와 근사하게 설정한 후, 이온성 라텍스를 적용해 봄으로서 이들의 상호작용과 도공지의 품질에 미치는 영향에 대해 검토해 보았다. 1,2급 클레이를 각각 35부, 탄산칼슘을 30부씩 혼합한 후, 제조한 도공액의 탈수량 및 침강중량비 측정 결과, 양성라텍스는 음이온성 라텍스보다 다분산 안료 배합하에서도 안료와의 상호작용이 크다는 것을 알 수 있었으며, 형성된 필터케이크충의 구조가 다공성임을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 제조한 도공지의 표면거칠기 및 투기도 등의 도공지 표면 및 내부육특성 측정을 통해 확인할 수 있었다. 결과적으로 양성라텍스를 사용하여 제조한 도공지의 인쇄적 성이 음이온성 라텍스를 사용한 경우보다 우수하였다. 이는 양성라텍스가 탄산칼슘이 일정비율 첨가된 안료 배합조건 하에서도 이오기의 전하반전 특성을 통해 클레이와의 정전기적 상호작용을 할 수 있다는 사실을 보여주었으며, 1급 클레이의 혼합비율 일부를 2급 및 탄산칼슘으로 대체하여 도공지의 품질 및 인쇄적성을 개량하였다.

  • In general, printing inks are mainly composed of pigments and vehicles. Its characteristics are affected, to a greater or lesser extent, by the size and distribution of the pigment particles in the dispersion. Color strength, transparency and gloss generally increases with an decrease in particle size of pigments. On the contrary, opacity, lightfastness tend to increases with an increase in particle size of pigments In this work, we have investigated an effect of surface area of pigments on the physical properties of printing of printing ink which made up vehicles for sheet fed and organic pigment Lake Red C(C.I.Pigment Red 53:1) that different surface area and particle size. It was found that gloss, tack and yield value increases with an increase in surface are of pigments, but grindness is reduced.

Particle Size, Morphology and Color Characteristics of C.I. Pigment Red 57:1 : 2. Effect of Salt Milling Process

  • The effect of salt milling process on the crystal size, morphology, and color characteristics of C.I. Pigment Red 57:1 was studied. The primitive morphology and color properties of the pigment after synthesis were studied in the former series work. The size and morphology of primary particles and the second aggregation features should be considered because they are very important to determine pigment quality. We compared the primary morphology of pigment particles before drying with the secondary aggregated morphology of pigment particles after drying and salt milling process. Morphological properties were investigated by particle size analysis, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy and color measurement was carried out. Significant reduction in particle size as well as enhanced crystallite size after salt milling process was observed. This result might give a difference in color of the pigment, turning into brighter and more blue-toned red color. It was revealed that synthesis condition affect the morphology and color of the pigment even after milling. Increase in HCl concentration in the synthesis process enhanced crystal size and quality forming bluer-red pigments but an increase in $CaCl_2$ concentration resulted in more amorphous crystals forming darker-red pigments after salt milling.

Analysis of microstructural characteristics and components of red and yellow ink pigments used in permanent makeup

  • Our purpose in this study is to analyze the microstructural characteristics and constituent elements of inorganic substances added to the yellow ink and red ink pigments used in permanent makeup. We observed the microstructural properties of inorganic pigments added to the ink using a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and analyzed the constituent elements of the inorganic pigment particles using an energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). In red wine-colored ink, cubic titanium dioxide with a diameter of 110 to 200 nm was the major component, and rod-shaped iron oxide was rarely observed. Most of the ingredients of taupe yellow ink were rod-shaped yellow iron oxide, and a small amount of cubic titanium dioxide was observed. Red wine-colored ink and taupe yellow ink contained lumps composed of titanium dioxide particles. In red wine-colored ink, lumps were formed by agglomeration. However, we observed that the surface of the lump composed of titanium dioxide in the taupe yellow ink had a smooth surface caused by external physical compression. The titanium dioxide particle mass which found in taupe yellow ink in this study is an artificial product. When this mass accumulates in the dermis, it may cause a color mismatch. Therefore, permanent makeup using fine pigments should be free of foreign substances that may cause trouble in the skin. In addition, there is a need to improve the quality of the ink so that the required color can be safe and long lasting in the dermis.

색조 화장품의 색상에 있어서 Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA)의 효과 (The Effect of PMMA in the Color Tone of Color Cosmetics)

  • 본 연구는 분체를 주성분으로 하는 색조 화장품 제조시 최근 개발된 구상입자의 PMMA를 첨가한 경우와 첨가하지 않은 경우로 나누어 적색계의 착색안료를 넣어 볼연지로 제조한 후 PMMA가 색상변화에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 비교 분석하는데 그 목적을 둔다. 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 분체를 주성분으로 하는 파우더 원료에 관해 문헌 고찰을 하였다. 또한 분체안료 Talc, Mica, OMC Talc As, Mica As에 PMMA를 첨가한 경우와 첨가하지 않은 경우로 처방하여 직접 제조한 후, spectrophotometer와 설문조사, digital camera로 촬영하여 비교 평가하였고 SEM을 이용하여 미립자를 비교 분석하였다. 분석결과 PMMA를 첨가하여 제조시 색상이 좀 더 선명하고 짙게 표현되며 촉감도 부드럽게 발리는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 전체 PMMA 비표면적이 커서 oil을 고르게 흡수하기 때문에 색상이 짙고 선명하게 표현되는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 그러나 천연안료 Mica는 silicon 처리한 합성안료 Mica As와는 반대의 결과가 나타남에 따라 펄감으로 인해 난반사가 일어날 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구 결과 색조 화장품 제조시 구상 미립자 PMMA를 첨가하면 부드럽게 발리는 촉감뿐만 아니라 색상 표현이 좀 더 선명하게 나타나게 해 제품의 색상 표현을 개선할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

키토산과 천연색소를 이용한 Eco-Printing(제1보) (Eco-printing Using Chitosan and Natural Colorants(1))

  • The aim of this study is to develope eco-printing method using natural pigments and chitosan as a natural binder. Three chitosans with different molecular weights were employed to find appropriate conditions including chitosan concentration and pigment/binder ratio. Dye uptake, color and fastnesses of the printed fabrics were evaluated to find optimum conditions within the range of experiments carried out in this study. The effectiveness of chitosan as a printing binder was examined in comparison with color, dye uptake, and fastnesses of conventional synthetic binder and guar gum. It was found that chitosans with low or medium molecular weight were appropriate. Using low molecular weight chitosan, optimum concentrations were 1.7% for charcoal, madder and chlorophyll, whereas 2.2% for ocher, yellow soil, indigo and cochineal. Regardless of molecular weight and concentration of chitosan, the color fastnesess of fabrics printed with mineral pigments were superior to those of the fabrics printed with plant and animal pigments. As pigment/chitosan ratio became higher, rubbing fastness was decreased by 1-3 grade. The colorfastness of printed fabric with chitosan binder was similar to that with synthetic binder, which was higher than that with guar gum.

공침법에 의한 Fe2O3-CoO-Cr2O3-MnO2계 안료 연구 (Synthesis of the Fe2O3-CoO-Cr2O3-MnO2 pigments by co-precipitation method)

  • 본 연구에서는 $Fe_2O_3-CoO-Cr_2O_3-MnO_2$계 색상의 무기안료를 공침법을 사용하여 합성하였다. 출발원료로는 $FeCl_3,\;CoCl_2,\;CrCl_3,\;MnCl_2$를 사용하였으며 침전제로는 2N-KOH를 사용하였다. $MnCl_2$는 10 mole%로 고정한 후 세 가지 원료로서 6가지 조성비를 만들어 안료를 합성하였다. 조합된 시료는 1.5시간 $1350^{\circ}C$에서 하소하였다. XRD, FT-IR, SEM 과 UV spectrophotometer를 사용하여 안료의 특성 분석을 하였다. 합성된 안료는 석회유, 석회 바륨유에 각각 6wt%씩 첨가하여 $1260^{\circ}C$ 산화소성, $1240^{\circ}C$ 환원 소성하였다. UV Spectrometer를 사용하여 색상분석을 한 결과는 black, bluish black, dark grayish green을 나타냈다.

봉정사 극락전 벽화 안료의 재질 분석 연구(II) (The analysis study of mural painting pigments at Pongjongsa Kuknakjon)

  • The pigments composition and structure of the mural painting at Pongjongsa Kuknakjon is discussed. The structure of inner wall is consisited of Paint layer, Ground divided two layers of yellow and white pigments, Support. In case of outer wall, it is consisted of Paint layer, Ground divided three layers of yellow and green pigments, a layer mixed green pigments and paint layer, Support. As a result of compositon analysis of mural painting pigments at Pongjongsa Kuknakjon using Micro-area X-ray diffraction system, the red pigment on inner wall is consisted of Heamatite($Fe_2O_3$), Magnetite($Fe_3O_4$)of deep black pigment, and Chalcocite($Cu_2S$) of light black pigment. The white pigment on outer wall is consisted of Anglesite($PbSO_4$) and Atacamite($Cu_2CI(OH)_3$) of green pigment. We found out that natural pigments painted in the mural painting at Pongjongsa Kuknakjon has kept up its own color for a long time due to using the natural pigment not to artificial synthetic pigment.
