  • Construction performance and productivity improvement are key focus areas in construction industry for any nation. There have been frequent delays and cost overruns in construction projects and poor productivity is one of the major contributions. For this reasons, there have been many research studies performed on the improvement of construction productivity for several decades. However, measuring productivity on a construction job site is still not an easy work. Because collecting reliable data consistently from the job site requires a lot of personnel efforts causing extra time and cost. This paper provides a basic study on the application of image processing technology for measuring unit productivity. It presented the possibility of unit productivity measurement by image processing technology through case study.

  • This study, a sub-one of comprehensive research works titled under “Rural Resources Evaluation System”, tried to verify utility/applicability of the developed model system through the case study works on 3 sample villages, Backya, Uyan and Suyu, representing the lowland, upland and seashore villages respectively. From the various surveying and collecting works including the official/statistical data collection, map analysis, insitu investigation, field survey and written material review, the original data set were obtained and manipulated into final input data for resources grading. After then, by the automatized calculation procedure of “Rural Resources Evaluation System”, score results for resources evaluation were finally produced with the total maximum score being 1,000. Through comparing works among score results of 3 case villages and between score results and areal characteristics of each case village, the applicability of the system developed in this study was well confirmed.

  • Many of urban parks which have been designated for urban planning regulation are not well developed because the priority of investment is inferior to that of other public facilities. Park development is an urgent urban policy and it is hard to decide priority among parks. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the priority of park development. Thus the Analytic Hierarchy Process has been introduced because it is suitable for achieving objectivity by collecting the professional opinions. The goals of park development are evaluated by AHP method and the priorities among goals are conservation of natural environment, satisfying the residents' residents' needs, population density, regional pollution, land acquisition cost, ratio of greeneries and facilities within park areas. Priority of park development is decided by the standardization of each individual inventory data and considering of the professional opinions. Among the multi-attribute judgement methods, AHP method may be the most widely used. Despite the critical evaluations of the AHP, such as limitation of the nine-point scale and the rank reversal problem, application of AHP to decide the priority of park development is suitable for actual circumstances.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine methodological issues of empirical research using survey methods in Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles. We reviewed 95 articles from Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles in 1996, 1998, and 2000. Methodological issues were categorized into four areas: questionnaire and scale development, sampling and collecting data, variable construction, and external validity(generalization). In each imp, a check list was made and 95 articles were reviewed based on this limit. Major findings were discussed and some suggestions were made for future research.

  • After division of Germany, East Germany was established as a socialistic nation. The new socialistic nation needed new systems in many different areas such as political, social, educational and cultural. In the new political system based on socialistic ideology the administrative organization and political parties used the academic libraries as a political instrument. Thus the members of the political parties exercised socialistic ideology on the management of the libraries. For example, in the anointment of the library directors, in the education and training of librarians, In the collecting development policy, in managing the seditious materials etc the influence of socialism can be seen.

  • The ubiquitous sensor network technique is widely applied to variety of information fields such as home automations, logistics, traffic controls, public administrations, health and environment monitoring and etc. It is particularly useful in the areas where energy consumption is minimal and where continuous monitoring of the surrounding environments, which generates streams of data, are required. In this study, we have designed and implemented a living environment automatic control system which collects the streams of temperature, humidity, light and noise data of a simulated house setting in real-time fashion, then controls the home environment based on the collected data according to the users favorites. In order to differentiate the proposed system from the currently existing similar system, we have demonstrated not only the feasibility of collecting data using sensor network in the controlled environment but also the ability to control the various household equipments through wireless communications.

  • Web is a part of our daily life and now it is ready to become a new Web called Semantic Web. The Semantic Web does not require entire human process for collecting and processing the information on the Web. Automation of efficient information retrieval, new knowledge generation, exact web service providing and so on are become possible through the Semantic Web. In this paper, the main idea of the Semantic Web and its application areas are discussed.

  • A case of renal candidiasis is reported in a 4-year-old male Masked Palm civet (Paguma larvata). On necropsy, the kidneys were bilaterally swollen, pale and had numerous 1 to 3 mm diameter white foci throughout the parenchyma on cut section. The urinary bladder was filled with opaque and milky exudate. Histologically, severe infiltration of neutrophils and macrophages and necrosis were noted in the interstitial areas of both cortex and medulla and in the lumens of renal tubules and collecting duct often resulting in cystic dilation of the tubules. • This study is to provide the useful data for the design and construction of the geotechnical engineering works by collecting and analyzing the soil properties of granite soil in the Kangwon Province. Data base was obtained from 92 field sites in the Kangwon province divided into 15 areas based on administration district. Total numbers of data were 478. Correlations between soil constants, especially compaction properties, were obtained by performing statistical analysis. Analyzed results were as follows. 1. Most of granite soil consists of SM and GM based on United Soil Classification System. 2. Mean gravity of granite soil is 2.65 3. High correlations between optimum moisture content and the maximum dry density, plasticity index and liquid limit are obtained. 4. Analyzed results between other soil constants show relatively low correlation. However, they show consistent trends matchable to geotechnical engineering senses.

  • It is known that Global Positioning System(GPS) is the most efficient navigation system because it provides precise position information on the all areas of Earth regardless of metrology. Until now, the size of GPS receivers has become smaller and the performance of receivers has become higher. So receivers provide the position information of not only static system but also dynamic system. Usually, users make similar movement trajectory according to their life pattern and it is possible to build up efficient database by collecting only the repeated users' position. Because position information calculated by the receiver is erroneous about 10-30m within 5% error tolerance, the position information is oscillated even on the same area. In this paper, we propose the system that can estimate whether users are out of trajectory or in dangerous situation by soft-computing method.
