  • This paper proposes a simple yet accurate method for estimating the antenna correlation coefficient (ACC) of a high-order multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna. The conventional method employed to obtain the ACC from three-dimensional radiation patterns is costly and difficult to measure. An alternate method is to use the S-parameters, which can be easily measured using a network analyzer. However, this method assumes that the antennas are highly efficient, and it is therefore not suitable for lossy MIMO antenna arrays. To overcome this limitation, we define and utilize the non-coupled radiation efficiency in the S-parameter-based ACC formula. The accuracy of the proposed method is verified by the simulation results of a 4-port highly coupled lossy MIMO array. Further, the proposed method can be applied to N-port arrays by expanding the calculation matrix.

  • This paper describes a new approach to solve balancing of a rigid rotor. In this paper, the balancing of the rigid rotor using genetic algorithms, which are search algorithms based on the mechanics of natural selection and natural genetics is proposed. Under the assumption that the initial vibration values used to calculate correction masses contain errors, the influence coefficient method, the least squares method and a genetic algorithm are compared. The results show that the vibration amplitude obtained with the least squares method and the genetic algorithm is smaller than that obtained with the influence coefficient method.

  • In static analysis of a variety of structures, the matrix method of structural analysis is the most widely used and powerful analysis method. However, this method has drawback requiring high-performance computers with many memory units and fast processing units in the case of analyzing complex and large structures accurately. Therefore, it's very difficult to analyze these structures accurately in personal computers. For overcoming the drawback of the matrix method of structural analysis, authors suggest transfer stiffness coefficient method(TSCM). The TSCM is very suitable to a personal computer because the concept of the TSCM is based on the transfer of the stiffness coefficient for an analytical structure. In this paper, the static analysis algorithm for frame structures is formulated by the TSCM. We confirm the validity of the proposed method through the compare of computation results by the TSCM and the NASTRAN.

  • Recently, the properties of early-age concrete are increasingly important because these properties directly influence the behavior of early-age concrete structures including stress and cracking behavior. Nevertheless, the studies on early-age concrete are limited to strength and temperature development. The purpose of present study is to propose a simple and rational method which can predict the stress and strain behavior of young age concrete. A series of test have been done to measure the temperature development, strains and stresses in concrete members. The concept of equivalent age was used to define the degree of hydration and this degree of hydration was used to calculate the strength and elastic modulus. The critical degree of hydration and thermal expansion coefficient were calculated using experimental data. It is seen that the critical degree of hydration range from 0.05 to 0.11 based on the measuring method. The thermal expansion coefficient was calculated based on the measured non-mechanical strain and it is found that the coefficient decreases slightly with the increase of age. The consideration of critical degree of hydration in calculating stresses gives more accurate results. The present study provides useful method and data in evaluating early-age behavior of concrete structure.

  • The coefficient of consolidation has been evaluated using the conventional oedometer tests based on the one-dimensional consolidation theory. In the field, however, the actual response of the soil will be subject to the three-dimensional condition during consolidation. In this research, a new method f3r estimating the coefficient of consolidation for various stress-deformation conditions was proposed. The good agreement between the computed dissipation of pore pressure and the measured data confirms the usefulness and the applicability of the proposed method to predict the exact rate of consolidation.

  • In this paper, the displacement-based seismic design approaches are evaluated utilizing shaking-table test data of a 1:3 scaled reinforced concrete (RC) bearing wall structure Provided by IAEA. The maximum responses of the structure are estimated using the two prominent displacement-based approaches, i.e., the capacity spectrum method and the displacement coefficient method, and compared with the measured responses. For comparison purpose, linear and nonlinear time history analyses and response spectrum analysis are also performed. The results indicate that the capacity spectrum method underestimates the response of the structure In inelastic range while the displacement coefficient method yields reasonable values in general.

  • In this paper, the authors formulate the sensitivity analysis algorithm for the natural frequency of a torsional shafting by expanding the transfer stiffness coefficient method. The basic concept of the present algorithm is based on the transfer of sensitivity stiffness coefficient, which is the derivative of stiffness coefficient with respect to design parameter, at every node from the first node to the last node in analytical model. The effectiveness of the present algorithm is confirmed by comparing the results of the sensitivity analysis and those of the reanalysis for the natural frequencies of a torsional shafting with a constant cross section. In numerical calculation, the design parameter is the diameter of the shaft element of the torsional shafting.

  • Image matching to determine the conjugate points in stereo photos is the one of the most important subject in digital photogrammetry and many researches In digital photogrammetric field are on going to automate the image matching process. In this study, we analyzes the effect of allowable correlation coefficient, which controls the accuracy in areal based image matching, on the accuracy of digital photogrammetry. So, some areal based matching methods such as image correlation coefficient matching, image Pyramid matching and interest point matching, are implemented, and the effect of allowable correlation coefficient on accuracy of digital photogrammetry in each method is analyzed. As a result of this study, a method to determine the optimal correlation coefficient is presented.
