  • We present a simple analytical expression of plasma density by making use of the electron density equation to study the dynamic behavior of the corona discharge plasma. It assumes that a specified voltage profile is fed through the inner conductor of the reactor chamber consisting of two coaxial conducting cylinders. The analytical description is based on the electron continuity equation with ionization and attachment by electrons. It is found that the electron density profile calculated between two coaxial cylindrical electrodes depends very sensitively on the Profile of applied voltage. The analytical expression of plasma density and its generation will provide important scaling laws in the corona discharge plasma.

  • This study aimed to theoretical calculate the thermal residual stress in continuous SiC fiber reinforced titanium matrix composites. The analytical solution of residual stress field distribution was obtained by using coaxial cylinder model, and the numerical solution was obtained by using finite element model (FEM). Both of the above models were compared and the thermal residual stress was analyzed in the axial, hoop, radial direction. The results indicated that both the two models were feasible to theoretical calculate the thermal residual stress in continuous SiC fiber reinforced titanium matrix composites, because the deviations between the theoretical calculation results and the test results were less than 8%. In the titanium matrix composites, along with the increment of the SiC fiber volume fraction, the longitudinal property was improved, while the equivalent residual stress was not significantly changed, keeping the intensity around 600 MPa. There was a pronounced reduction of the radial residual stress in the titanium matrix composites when there was carbon coating on the surface of the SiC fiber, because carbon coating could effectively reduce the coefficient of thermal expansion mismatch between the fiber and the titanium matrix, meanwhile, the consumption of carbon coating could protect SiC fibers effectively, so as to ensure the high-performance of the composites. The support of design and optimization of composites was provided though theoretical calculation and analysis of residual stress.

  • Turbulent Couette flow between coaxial cylinders with inner one rotating has been investigated experimentally and numerically. The radius ratio of the coaxial cylinders is 0.43. Mean velocity and turbulent stresses have been measured by hot-wire anemometer in the range of Reynolds number based on the velocity at rotating wall and the radial distance between walls, 60,900-187,000. For the numerical computation, the Reynolds stress model has been used as a turbulence closure model. Measurements of mean velocity show that the velocity profile of wall layer largely deviates from universal logarithmic law due to the effect of streamline curvature, especially in the region near the stationary outer cylinder. The results computed with the Reynolds stress model agree well with the experimental data in the prediction of circumferential intensity of turbulent fluctuations. However, the computed level of radial intensity is much higher than the measurement. Curvature-corrected versions of the Reynolds stress model improves the prediction of turbulent intensities, but the results are not fully satisfactory.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the radiative heat transfer augmentation by a coaxial cylinder introduced in the infinite cylindrical pipe enclosing a participating gas. The gas is either a mixture of water vapor and carbon dioxide or gray. The gas is assumed to be homogeneous at a constant temperature, and has a refractive index of unity. All of the surfaces are opaque and gray, diffusely emitting and reflecting at a constant temperature, The effect of system diameter, diameter ratio, wall emittances, gas and surface temperatures, mixture component on heat transfer augmentation are studied by using the zone method with participating gas radiative properties evaluated from the weighted sum of gray gases model. From the radiative equilibrium condition, the installed wall temperature is formulated and calculated by the iteration method. If the medium is a gray gas, the augmentation observed are negligible. For the range of values studied for a real gas, if the system diameter is larger than about 0.1m the augmentation parameter increases up to about 1.2 as the system diameter increases. The augmentation parameter have a maximum value at a certain diameter ratio. The augmentation parameters decreases as the emittance of the installed wall decreases. If the gas temperature is higher than about 1273 k, the augmentation parameter decreases as the gas temperature increases.

  • A tensor invariant model equation for the turbulent energy dissipation rate is proposed in the present study, which is able to simulate secondary straining effects such as curvature effects without the introduction of additional empirical input. The source term in this model has a combined form of the generation term due to the mean vorticity with the conventional one due to the mean strain rate. An extended low-Reynolds-number $k-\epsilon$ turbulence model involving this new model equation is tested for a turbulent Coutte flow between coaxial cylinders with inner cylinder rotated, which is a well defined example of curved flows. The predicted results indicate that the present model works much better for this flow, compared with previous models.

  • The Core Support Barrel (CSB) is a major component of Reactor Internals, and is designed to support and protect the Reactor Core. In this study, Reactor Core, Core Shroud and CSB were simplified to coaxial cylinders and then the offset of Reactor Core & Core Shroud to the dynamic characteristic of CSB was analyzed. For the beam modes, natural frequencies of the cantilevered cylinder are compared with those of the cantilevered beam. And it was found out that shear modulus must be used correctly to convert the shell model to the equivalent beam model. From the dynamic characteristics of the beam model, it was found out that natural frequencies are proportional to the length of Reactor Core & Core Shroud and inversely proportional to the mass. From the comparison with the dynamic characteristics of a beam model and a lumped-mass model it was found out that the size of lumped-mass must be determined considering both the length and the mass of Reactor Core & Core Shroud.

  • The objective of the present study is to conduct model combustion tests for double swirl coaxial injectors to identify their combustion stability characteristics. Gaseous oxygen and mixture of methane and propane have been used as simulant propellants. Two model chambers tuned to the If acoustic resonance mode of a full-scale thrust chamber were manufactured to be used as a combustion cylinder. The main idea of the experiment is that the mixing mechanism is considered as a dominant factor significantly affecting combustion instability in a full-scale thrust chamber. Self-excited dynamic pressure values in a model chamber show different combustion stability zones with respect to a recess number. Upon test results, couplings between combustion conditions and the IT acoustic resonance mode become strengthened with the increase of a recess length.

  • In this study, BIEM(Boundary Integral Equation Method) using Green's function is applied in order to analyze 3D electric field precisely. The algorithm is developed with equivalent electric surface charge as a variable, which promises less unknown variables and higher accuracy of electric field analysis. The validity of the developed program is varified by applying it to a coaxial cylinder mode and 3-phase GIS model.

  • We have proposed a model of a thermal voltage converter(TVC) using the trans-impedance of lossy transmission line and developed a calculation program for ac-dc transfer difference of the TVC. The proposed TVC consists of a thermo-element(f) and a range resistor wire connected in series at the center of coaxial cylinder. The range resistor wire is used to extend the measurement range of the n. The calculated ac-dc transfer differences of the proposed TVC by simulation agree well with the measured values within the uncertainties. The simulated and measured values are agreed within $1{\mu}V/V$ from 40 Hz to 10kHz, within $5{\mu}V/V$ from 20kHz to 100MHz, and within $12{\mu}V/V$ from 200kHz to 1 MHz.

  • Combustion performance and characteristics of high-pressure subscale liquid rocket combustors were studied experimentally. Four different models of combustor were considered in this paper. The high-pressure subscale combustor is composed of the mixing head, the water cooling cylinder and the nozzle. One model of the combustors employed regenerative cooling combustor in that the kerosene used for the chamber cooling is burned. This combustor was damaged due to a high frequency combustion instability occurred during a firing test. The results of the firing tests, comparison of performance, and characteristics of static and dynamic pressures of the combustors are described.
