  • Ferroelectric PZT(10/90)PZT(90/10) heterolayered thin films were fabricated by spin-coating method on the Pt/Ti/SiO$^2$/Si substrate alternately using PZT(10/90) and PZT(90/10) metal alkoxide solutions. The coating and heating procedure was repeated six times to form PZT heterolayered films. The surface, cross-sectional microstructures and thickness of the films were observed using scanning electron microscope(SEM). The relative dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the 5-coated PZT heterolayered films were 1331 and 4.8% respectively.

Alginic acid-silica hydrogel coatings for the protection of ssmotic distillation membranes against wet-out by surface-active agents

  • Alginic acid-silica hydrogel films was prepared for testing as protective coating materials for PTFE OD membranes. Unprotected hydrophobic membranes are subject to wet-out when contacted by surface-active agents. Films were characterised using SEM, XRD, DSC, mechanical strength measurements, and water-swelling measurements. In OD trials using coated membranes, no wet-out occurred over the 15 h duration of three consecutive 5 h OD trials using orange oil-water mixtures. In the case of detergent solutions, the coating afforded protection to the membrane for 4-5 h. In a separate trial, no wet-out occurred when the coated side of the membrane was placed in contact with 1.2 wt % orange oil for 72 hours.

  • The sols prepared by dialyzing solutions, in which the hydrolyzed precipitates of TEOT or directly Ti(OC3H7)4 were resolved, were the nanoparticulate sol with the average particle size less than 7 nm and the anatase crystal phase. In the pH range of 1.5 to 2.9, the particle size of the nanoparticulate TiO2 sols (0.09 mol/ι) increased gradually upto 15 nm~26nm with the increase of pH in the initial aging state but the sols were transparent all the time, and stable without growin any more after 30 days. When the slipcasted porous alumina tubes were coated by the sol-gel dipping method, the minimum particle size and the aging time for forming the coated gel layer at the given pH were optimized. For obtaining the very thin crack-free and reproducible membrane coating, the use of a nanoparticulate TiO2 sol (0.09 mol/ι) aged for about 30 dyas at pH=2.0 was found to be the best.

졸-겔법에 의한 CdS 분산$SiO_2$ Glass 박막의 비선형광학특성

  • Recently semiconductor doped glasses have attracted attention as nonlinear optical materials because of their large third order nonlinear optical properties. The transparent and homogeneous CdS-doped SiO2 glass thin films were obtained by the dip=coating process of the sol-gel method. Thin films were consisted of glasses containing CdS microcrystallites which were formed by dissolved Cd2+ and S2- ions in a SiO2 matrix solutions. A subsequent thermal treatment of this samples led the formation of colloidal agglomerates and finally of microcrystallites. The size of CdS microcrystallites was about 4 to 15 nm after thermal treatments at various heating conditions. From the optical absorption spectra of the CdS-doped SiO2 glass films it was found that the absorption edge was blue-shifted compared with that of the bulk CdS crystal(~2, 4 eV) and that the amount of energy shift was inversely proportional to the crystal size. And the band gap energy increased with the decrease in crystallite size indicating that the quantum size effects occured.

  • $BiFeO_3/Pb(Zr_{0.95}Ti_{0.05})O_3$ (BFO/PZT) heterolayered thin films were fabricated by the spin coating method on a Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrate using metal alkoxide solutions. The coating and heating procedure was repeated 6 times to form the heterolayered films. The thickness of the BFO/PZT films after one cycle of drying/sintering is about 30-40 nm. All BFO/PZT films show a void free uniform grain structure without the presence of rosette structures. It can be assumed that the crystal growth of the upper BFO layers can be influenced by the lower PZT layers. As the number of coatings increased, the dielectric constant increased, so that the value for the 6-layer film was 1360 at 1 KHz.

  • The experiments of suspension hydration were performed in the mixtures of slag and water or NaOH solutions which were made up with a liquid/solid ratio of 10. The liquid phase of the suspension was chemically analysed and discussed. When slag was in contact with water, CaO component was released from slag grains into the solution. The amounts of $SiO_2$ and $Al_2O_3$ liberated in the solution were very low as compared with CaO, for the impermeable coating of $SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$-rich gel was formed on the surface of slag grains. The hydration was considered to be inhibited by this impermeable coating. The weak hydraulic property of slag was based on slowly released CaO and dissolved Na, K components which increased pH in the solution.

강상에 니켈-아연-인 삼원 합금도금에 관한 속도론적 연구 (A Kinetic Study on the Electrodeposition of Ni-Zn-P Ternary Alloys onto a Steel)

  • A kinetic study on the electrodeposition of Ni-Zn-P ternary alloys onto a steel in chloride solutions was carried out using a rotating disc electrode. The coatings were characterized using SEM/EPMA and A. A. analysis. The results showed that the plating rates of three components were increased with applied potential, disc rotating speed and temperature. The activation energies of Ni, Zn and P of the coatings were 6.1, 5.1 and 8.0 kcal/mole respectively. Therefore, the deposition rates were controlled partly by surface electrochemical reaction and partly by mass transport. As the potential, temperature of bath and rotating speed of cathode disc were raised, the vol. % ratios of Ni and P of coating layer were increased but that of Zn decreased. The effect of coating parameters on the surface morphology was also examined.

  • Elastic-Plasitc Finite element analysis is peformed about the TiN coated medium. The normal contact is simulated by a rigid asperity pressing the surface of an elastic-plastic half-surface. The case of a surface film stiffer than the substrate is considered, and general solutions for the subsurface stress and deformation fields are presented for several coating thickness. Additionally, the critical normal loads for deformation in the substrate and coating fracture are calculated when the yield of TiN film follows the Maximum Principal Stress Theory and Von Mises Theory. The results can be subsumed in failure maps for TiN thin film on steel.

하이드라진 용액법으로 형성된 CuInSe2 다층 박막 분석 (Characterization of Hydrazine Solution Processed Multi-layered CuInSe2 Thin Films)

  • $CuInSe_2$ thin films which have been widely used for thin solar cells as a light absorber were prepared by hydrazine solution processing, and their microstructural properties were investigated. Hydrazine $CuInSe_2$ precursor solutions were prepared by dissolving $Cu_2S$, S, $In_2Se_3$ and Se powder in hydrazine solvent. Multilayer $CuInSe_2$ chalcopyrite phase thin films were prepared by repeating spin-coating process using the precursor solution. Unfortunately, the presence of the interfaces between each $CuInSe_2$ layer formed by multi-layer coating impeded grain growth across the interface. Here, by doing simple interface engineering to solve the limited grain growth issue, the large grained (${\sim}1{\mu}m$) $CuInSe_2$ thin films were obtained.

  • The use of plastic substrates enables new applications, such as flexible display devices, and other flexible electronic devices, using low cost, roll-to-roll (R2R) fabrication technologies. One of the limitations of polymeric substrate in these applications is that oxygen and moisture rapidly diffuse through the material and subsequently degrade the electro-optical devices. GE Global Research (GEGR) has developed a plastic substrate technology comprised of a superior high-heat polycarbonate ($LEXAN^{(R)}$) substrate film and a unique transparent coating package that provides the ultrahigh barrier (UHB) to moisture and oxygen,chemical resistance to solvents used in device fabrications, and a high performance transparent conductor. This article describes the coating solutions for polycarbonate ($LEXAN^{(R)}$) films and its compatibility with OLED device fabrication processes.
