Chemical coagulation destabilizes colloidal particles so that particles grow to larger flocs. Solid particles are then removed by solid-liquid separation after typical precipitation. Rapid precipitation enhances the separation by reducing the precipitation time with larger and denser particles. Conventionally, polyelectolyte compounds (polymers) function as a flocculant aid by introducing a interparticle binding, which increases the particle size and density. And more recent ballasted flocculation adds a ballasting agent (microsand) to form denser particles with its high-density(sp gr=2.65). The current research was to evaluate the manner in which ballasted flocs are formed under different injection timings of microsand and to recognize the effects on floc formation. $FeCl_3$ as a coagulant, anionic polymer for a flocculation aid and microsand were used for the floc formation. Floc size (diameter) was widely ranged with the highest mean value when microsand was injected between $FeCl_3$ and polymer. Mean floc density was larger when the floc formed smaller. Settling velocity increased with larger floc size, whilst not significantly affected by the timing of microsand injection. The additional slow mixing on floc formation increased floc size to some extent.
The potential of calcium peroxide to act as an agent for waterblooming control was In-vestigated by examining the growth inhibition of Microcystis aerusinosa. Due to the chemical nature of calcium peroxide, it can remove dissolved phosphate by forming an Insoluble precipitate, generating radicals, coagulant, and oxygen as byproducts as it dissolves in water. The growth of M. aerusinosa was severely inhibited and the chlorophyll-n concentration was drastically decreased in the presence of calcium peroxide. With 200 ppm of calcium peroxide dosage, a chlorophyll-a concentration of 1,700 mg/m$^3$ was lowered to below 10% of its initial concentration after 4 days. One possible explanation for this growth Inhibition is the removal of the available phosphate by calcium peroxide.

The waste glass sludge is a waste produced in the glass industry. It is in a dust form and disposed with water. In the disposal process, various cohesive agents are incorporated in order to precipitate the glass particles efficiently. In this paper, we investigate the pozzolanic reaction of the waste glass sludge incorporating precipitation additives experimentally. The consumption of calcium hydroxide, the setting time and the compressive strength and the pore structure were tested for two different types of the waste glass sludge depending on whether precipitation additives were used. It was found that the waste glass sludge incorporating the precipitation additives had a higher pozzolanic potential than the reference waste glass sludge without precipitation additives.
The anti-coagulant activity of ilexoside D isolated from the roots of ilex pubescens Hook. et Am. was investigated in in vivo models of blood coagulation in rats. On oral administration, ilexoside D prolonged the bleeding time and the whole blood recalcified clotting time, but not the plasma recalcified clotting time. In vitor, ilexoside D did not affect the recalciffed clotting times of whole blood, platelet-rich plasma(PRP), and platelet-poor plasma(PPP), while in the presence of tissue factor the compound prologed the reduced proth-rombin times of whole blood, PRP and PPP in the dose-dependent manner. These results indicate that ilexoside D has the anit-tissue factor activity as well as the antithromobotic activity.

The use of aluminum-based coagulants in water pretreatment is being carefully considered because aluminum exposure is a risk factor for the onset of Alzheimer's disease. Lightly burned-dolomite kiln dust (LB-DKD) was evaluated as an alternative coagulant because it contains high levels of the healthful minerals calcium and magnesium. An organic pore forming agent (OPFA) was incorporated to prepare porous granules after OPFA removal through a thermal decomposition process. A spray drying method was used to produce uniform and reproducible spherical granules with low density, since fine dolomite particles have irregular agglomeration behavior in the hydration reaction. The use of fine dolomite powder and different porosity granules led to a visible color change in raw algae (RA) containing water, from dark green to transparent colorlessness. Also, dolomite powders and granules exhibited a mean removal efficiency of 48.3% in total nitrogen (T-N), a gradual increase in the removal efficiency of total phosphorus (T-P) as granule porosity increased. We demonstrate that porous dolomite granules can improve the settling time and water quality in summer seasons for the emergent treatment of excessive algal blooms in eutrophic water.

Drinking water treatment is enhanced by coagulant dosages and chlorine injection because of pH increase in raw water in droughty seasons such as spring and fall. But water quality deterioration is occurred by increase in residual aluminium and disinfection by-products. Coagulation process can be used to control natural organic matter (NOM) during water treatment. The effect of coagulation process appeared to depend on the pH of water rather than coagulant dosages. In this study, for water treatment in high pH season $H_2SO_4$ was applied for pH adjustment at full scale. Before and after pH adjustment by $H_2SO_4$ injection, water quality of drinking water was evaluate. In the result of investigation of total organic carbon (TOC) removal in high pH season, TOC was removed approximately 30~40%, which showed decrease in water treatment efficiency. Also, it is increased both particle numbers and residual Al concentration in the water. After $H_2SO_4$ injection for adjustment to pH<7.5 in settled water, treated water turbidity decreased in 0.047 NTU from 0.059 NTU, and particle numbers of filtered water decreased in 20/mL from 90/mL. On the other side, TOC removal efficiency increased in approximately 10% after adjustment of pH. In the result of decrease in pH in raw water through more coagulants and prechlorine without $H_2SO_4$ injection, trihalomethanes (THMs) concentration increased in $16{\mu}g/L$ from $8{\mu}g/L$.
The manufacturing process for konjac jelly is largely divided into the three processes of powder manufacturing, a coagulation and finishing. It was found that the number of aerobic bacteria in konjac jelly decreases as the concentration of coagulation agent and soaking liquid increases. The temperature of the water has no significant effect. When the concentration of coagulation agent was maintained at 1.0%, the tensile strength was also maintained without significant change for up to 10 months. When the concentration was kept below 0.8%, however, the tensile strength showed a tendency to sharply decrease. After fixing the coagulant concentration to 1.0%, the effect by the soaking liquid was confirmed. At all concentrations of soaking, it was found that both tensile strength and bacterial numbers are unchanged until 10 months of storage.

This study provides the optimal conditions treating with the coagulation process and the other chemical treatment processes for dyeing wastewater, especially various dyeing complex wastewater. The results are shown as follows: 1. Optimum reaction condition of pH for ferrous sulfate was the range of 9 to 12. And when 3,000ppm(mg/l) of ferrous sulfate was dosed, the maximum $COD_{Mn}$ removal rate was approximately 40%. 2. In case of ferrous chloride and Bittern as coagulants, optimum pH range was 10 to 11. And maximum $COD_{Mn}$ removal rate was approximately 46% to 50% for dose of 2,000ppm(mg/l) to 6,000 ppm. 3. It is confirmed that the activated sludge process following coagulation precipitation method provides better treatment efficiency than the coagulation precipitation method following the activated sludge process. 4. The purpose of this study was to produce CGF (Cyanoguanidineformaldehyde resin) by organic compounds. 5. The complex coagulation agent by this study is the most economical coagulant with Alum(aluminum sulfate) and the removal efficiency is approximately 54% with 1,000ppm(mg/l) of pH range 6 to 7.

The swine wastewater from slurry feedlot has been a social problem in Korea since the proper treatment is very difficult. Therefore, a practical study on the Solid-Liquid separation of swine wastewater from slurry feedlot was carried out as a pan of pretreatment for the successful biological treatment. The appropriate type of coagulant and optimum dosage were proposed for the most efficient Solid-Liquid separation and the best Solid-Liquid separation methods for different size of feedlot were determined through the tests with field-scaled Solid-Liquid separation equipment. The appropriate coagulant for the conditioning of dewatering property was E-851, which is a cationic polyelectrolyte made of polyacrylamide, and the optimum dosage was 0.24~0.6% of unit solids weight. Mesh Screen, Drum Screen, Cyclone Drum Filter, Screw Press, High-speed Screw Decanter, Low-speed Screw Decanter, and Dissolved Air Flotation Process had been investigated in this study. According to the results, the Screw Press was the best dewatering equipment for the small & medium size for feedlot and low-speed Screw Decanter was the best for the large size feedlot & public owned treatment facilities for the primary Solid-Liquid separation, and the most suitable secondary treatment process was DAF. On the other hand, reductions for the requirement of bulking agent and organic loading by Solid-Liquid separation process were 94.8% and 84.7%, respectively Therefore, the Solid-Liquid separation process must be required for the successful treatment of swine wastewater from slurry feedlot.
This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of microbial inoculation on sewage sludge composting. The number and species of microorganisms in sewage sludge sampled on February were higher than those sampled on August. The composting of sewage sludge is inhibited by the polyacrylamide cation, which was used as a coagulant and known to repress the growth of microorganisms. The growth of all microorganisms was inhibited by the addition of the polyacrylamide cation at a concentration of more than 0.8%. The species and viable counts of microorganisms were observed to increase during composting sewage sludge by inoculation of the effective microorganisms and addition of the pine tree sawdust as a bulking agent, compared with those without inoculation. A variety of organisms in compost(sewage sludge plus sawdust) were observed after composting for 30 days, such as Fragilaria sp., Proales sp., Vorticella sp., Schizothrix sp., Anabaena sp., Zoothaminium sp., Epstylis sp., Arcella sp., Balantidium sp., Actinophrys sp., Synedra sp., Euglypha sp., Ulothrix sp., Anacystis sp., and Clostium sp.
