  • $^1H$ NMR spectra of imidazole, 2-and 4(5)-methylimidazole, histamine, L-histidine, L-histidine methyl ester, N${\alpha}$-acetyl-L-histidine, and L-carnosine coordinated to the paramagnetic undecatungstocobalto(II)silicate ($SiW_{11}Co$) and undecatungstonickelo(II)silicate ($SiW_{11}Ni$) anions are reported. For these complexes the ligand exchange is slow on the NMR time scale and the pure resonance lines of the free ligand and the complexes have been observed separately at room temperature. Two different complexes are formed, depending upon which nitrogen atom of the imidazole ring is coordinated to the cobalt or nickel ion of $SiW_{11}M$. Thus the NMR spectrum of a $D_2O$ solution containing a ligand and $SiW_{11}M$ consists of three sets of lines originating from the free ligand and two complexes. All NMR lines of the $SiW_{11}Co$ complexes have been assigned unequivocally using the saturation transfer technique. The temperature dependence of some spectra are also reported. The NMR spectra of some complexes show that the internal rotation of the substituent on the imidazole ring is hampered by the heteropolyanion moiety even at room temperature.

  • To achieve large-scale carbon removals, a carbon offset project based on forest management was designed and its carbon stock change was estimated in this study. The project was designed for 874 hectares of forests in the Jin-An Leading Forest Management Zone. For estimating the carbon stock change of the project, the Korean Forest Carbon Standard and VCS (Verified Carbon Standard) methodologies were applied. Three types of management options were considered in the project : extension of rotation age, conversion to productive forests, and conversion to selective harvesting. The estimated carbon removals from the project designed in this study were $259,936tCO_2$ ($8,664tCO_2$ annually), which is 98% of estimated carbon removals from the entire 69 projects currently registered to the Forest Carbon Offset Registry in Korea. The results of this study showed that a large-scale carbon offset project based on forest management could have a huge potential to produce carbon offset credits.

  • A worm screw is widely used in a geared motor unit for motion conversion from rotation to linear. For mass production of a high quality worm, the current rolling process is substituted with the milling process. Since the milling process enables the integration of all operations of worm manufacturing on a CNC(Computer Numerical Control) lathe, productivity can be remarkably improved. In this study, the tooling system for side milling on a CNC lathe to improve machinability is developed. However, the cutting tool-workpiece interference is important factors to be considered for producing high quality worms. For adaptability of various worms machining, the tool-workpiece interference simulation system based on a tool-tip trajectory model is developed. The developed simulation system is verified through several kinds of worms and experimental results.

  • The large deflection of plate is analyzed by co-rotational formulations using small local displacements and rotating unit vectors on the nodal points. The rotational degrees of the freedom are represent ed by the unit vectors1 In the nodal points, and the equilibrium equations are formulated by using small deflection theories of the plates by assuming that the directions of the unit vectors of the nodal points are known apriori. The translational degrees of freedom are independently solved from the rotational degrees of freedom in the equilibrium equations, and the correct directions of the unit vectors are computed by the iterative scheme by imposing the moment equilibrium constraint. The equilibrium equations and the associated solution procedure are explained, and the verification problems are solved.

  • This paper presents experimental and numerical studies into the structural behavior of a high performance corbel type composite connection adopted in Raffles City of Hangzhou, China. Physical tests under both monotonic and quasi-static cyclic loads were conducted to investigate the load carrying capacities and deformation characteristics of this new type of composite connection. A variety of structural responses are examined in detail, including load-deformation characteristics, the development of sectional direct and shear strains, and the history of cumulative plastic deformation and energy. A three-dimensional finite element model built up with solid elements was also proposed for the verification against test results. The studies demonstrate the high rigidity, strength and rotation capacities of the corbel type composite connections, and give detailed structural understanding for engineering design and practice. Structural engineers are encouraged to adopt the proposed corbel type composite connections in mega high-rise buildings to achieve an economical and buildable and architectural friendly engineering solution.

  • In this paper, a Hardware-In-the-Loop simulator to simulate attitude control of space craft using momentum wheels is developed. The simulator consists of a spherical air bearing system allowing rotation and tilt in all three axes, three momentum wheels for actuation, and an AHRS (Attitude Heading Reference System). The simulator processes various types of data in PC104 and wirelessly communicates with a host PC using TCP/IP protocol. A simple low-cost momentum wheel assembly set and its drive electronics are also developed. Several experiments are performed to test the performance of the momentum wheels. For the control performance test of the simulator, a PID controller is implemented. The results of experimental demonstrations confirm the feasibility and validity of the Hardware-In-the-Loop simulator developed in the current study.

  • Bucket trajectory is crucial regarding precision work with an excavator. In general, the bucket trajectory deviation is determined by the machining deviation of the frame, driving deviation of the driving hydraulic cylinder, clearance in the joints, and deformation of the structure. This paper investigated the relationship between the respective clearance in joints and the trajectory deviation of the bucket at the finishing work of the ditching for a 20-ton excavator. As a result, the larger the clearance, the larger deviation is increased at trajectory. However, it was found that the deviation of the rotation angle and displacement of the bucket was limited and the size of clearance does not affect closely on the contact angle of the pin shaft.

  • In this paper, the kinematic model and motion control of a joint-actuated mobile robot are analyzed. To take an efficient approach to the wheeled mobile robots, the relationship between wheel rotation and the contact point of the wheel is considered. It is shown that each addition of a joint to a mobile robot increases the degree of freedom(DOF) of mobile robot, and the way of joint attachment to a mobile robot is proposed. To get a solution of inverse kinematics of mobile robot, two types of approaches are proposed.

  • For the dynamic nonlinear analysis of stiffened plate and shell structures, total Lagrangian formulation is presented based upon the degenerated shell element considering finite rotation effects. Assumed strain concept is adopted in order to overcome shear locking phenomena and to eliminate spurious zero energy mode. In the elasto-plastic analysis, the return mapping algorithm based on the consistent elasto-plastic tangent modulus is applied to collapse analysis of shell structures. Newmark integration method is used for dynamic nonlinear analysis of shell structures under dynamic forces.

  • L1251B, which was revealed as a small group of protostars by the Spitzer Space Telescope (SST), presents a great site of studying chemical evolution in gas and ice as well as various dynamical processes associated with star formation (infall, rotation, and outflow). We have mapped L1251B with the Infrared Spectrograph (IRS) aboard the SST to study the chemical distribution in the phases of gas and ice and the dynamical feature related to shock in the region. Various atomic lines and the $H_2$ pure rotational lines, which trace different shock velocities, were detected. In addition, the distribution of the water and $CO_2$ ices hints variety of the ice desorption mechanism in L1251B.
