The performance of a heat pump using $CO_2$ is predicted and analyzed by using a cycle simulation model developed in this study. Cycle simulations are conducted by varying design parameters and operating conditions with the applications of advanced techniques to improve system performance. The applied systems in the simulations are internal heat exchanger, expander, and 2-stage compression with intercooling. As a result, the applications of advanced techniques improve the heating and cooling performances of the transcritical $CO_2$ cycle by 8∼26% and 20∼30%, respectively, over the basic cycle.
The cooling performance of a transcritical $CO_2$ cycle varies significantly with a variation of refrigerant charge amount. In this study, the performance of the $CO_2$ system was measured and analyzed by varying refrigerant charge amount with a change of cycle option. The applied cycle options are the single-stage compression system, two-stage compression with 1-EEV system, and two-stage compression with 2- EEV system. The optimum normalized charge were 0.363, 0.297, and 0.282 for the two-stage compression with 2-EEV system, two-stage compression with 1-EEV system, and single-stage compression system, respectively.

Several materials are used to design the sorbents applied in a fast-fluidized bed process for post-combustion $CO_2$ capture. In this study, $K_2CO_3$-based dry sorbent (KMC) was prepared by using Micro-cell C (MCC), one of the materials used to design the sorbent, and then its $CO_2$ sorption and regeneration properties were evaluated. KMC sorbent showed a low $CO_2$ capture capacity of 21.6 mg $CO_2/g$ sorbent, which is about 22% of the theoretical value (95.4 mg $CO_2/g$ sorbent) even at 1 cycle, and showed a low $CO_2$ capture capacity of 13.7 mg $CO_2/g$ sorbent at 5 cycles. It was confirmed that the KMC sorbent was deactivated due to the formation of a $K_2Ca$$(CO_3)_2$ phase, resulting from the reaction of the $K_2CO_3$ with the Ca component contained in the MCC. In order to solve the deactivation of sorbent, and KM8 sorbent was prepared by adding the process of calcining the MCC at $850^{\circ}C$. The KM8 sorbent showed a high $CO_2$ capture capacity of 95.2 mg $CO_2/g$ sorbent and excellent regeneration property. Thus, it was confirmed that the deactivation of the sorbent could be solved by adding the calcining step to remove the side reaction causing material.
Oil in water microemulsion containing soybean oil and egg phosphatide was prepared by vacuum high shear mixing and high pressure homogenizing. The laser particle sizer, Coulter counter and photomicroscope were used to determine the particle size distribution at each cycle of homogenizing. Particularly, the laser particle sizer(dynamic light scattering method) was applied to the study of particle size distribution behavior below $1\;{\mu}m$. It was found that the particle size distribution below $1\;{\mu}m$ was shifted to lower size range as the number of passing cycle was increased. Beyond the 7th cycle, however, the particle size distribution was not varied.

The biological effects of low-dose radiation have been investigated and debated for more than a century, but its cellular effects and regulatory mechanisms remain poorly understood. This study shows the human cellular responses to low-dose radiation in CCD-18 Lu cells, which are derived from normal human lung fibroblasts. We examined a colony-forming assay for cell survival by ionizing radiation. Live cell counting and cell cycle analysis were measured for cell proliferation and cell cycle progression following low-dose irradiation. We examined Raf and Akt phosphorylation to determine the proliferation mechanism resulting from low-dose radiation. We also observed that p53 and p21 were related to cell cycle response. We found that 0.05 Gy of ionizing radiation enhanced cell proliferation and did not change the progression of the cell cycle. In addition, 0.05 Gy of ionizing radiation transiently activated Raf and Akt, but did not change phospho-p53, p53 and p21 in CCD-18 Lu cells. However, 2 Gy of ionizing radiation induced cell cycle arrest, phosphorylation of p53, and expression of p53 and p21. The phosphorylation of Raf and Akt proteins induced by 0.05 Gy of ionizing radiation was abolished by pre-treatment with an EGFR inhibitor, AG1478, or a PI3k inhibitor, LY294002. Cell proliferation stimulated by 0.05 Gy of ionizing radiation was blocked by the suppression of Raf and Akt phosphorylation with these inhibitors. These results suggest that 0.05 Gy of ionizing radiation stimulates cell proliferation through the transient activation of Raf and Akt in CCD-18 Lu cells.
The nuclear reactor coupled with supercritical carbon dioxide (S-CO2) Brayton cycle has good prospects in generation IV reactors. Turbomachineries (turbine and compressor) are important work equipment in circulatory system, whose performances are critical to the efficiency of the energy conversion system. However, the sharp variations of S-CO2 thermophysical properties make turbomachinery performances more complex than that of traditional working fluids. Meanwhile, almost no systematic analysis has considered the effects of turbomachinery efficiency under different conditions. In this paper, an in-house code was developed to realize the geometric design and performance prediction of S-CO2 turbomachinery, and was coupled with systematic code for Brayton cycle characteristics analysis. The models and methodology adopted in calculation code were validated by experimental data. The effects of recompressed fraction, pressure and temperature on S-CO2 recompression Brayton cycle were studied based on detailed design of turbomachinery. The results demonstrate that the recompressed fraction affects the turbomachinery characteristic by changing the mass flow and effects the system performance eventually. By contrast, the turbomachinery efficiency is insensitive to variation in pressure and temperature due to almost constant mass flow. In addition, the S-CO2 thermophysical properties and the position of minimum temperature difference are significant influential factors of cyclic performance.

The objective of this study is to assess the environmental effect of the reclaimed land drainage method using oyster shell through the Life cycle $CO_2$ assessment, and to evaluate the applicability in South Korea. In this Study, the life cycle $CO_2$ emissions of oyster shell (OS) and crushed stone (CS, as avoided product) were assessed and compared. The Life Cycle Assessment method was used for quantitative evaluation of direct or indirect environmental effects of OS recycling. $CO_2$ was selected as the evaluation target material, and the scope of assessment includes the acquisition of materials, processing, transportation, construction phases. Compared to using CS, 77.0% of $CO_2$ emissions in acquisition and processing, 47.0% in transportation and 6.5% in construction phase were reduced, respectively by using of OS. The maximum transportation distance of OS was estimated according to transportation distance of CS. OS has environmental advantages than CS within about 26 - 101 km from the source. OS was found to be applicable to reclaimed lands up to 810 ha, 3,910 ha from Tongyeong and Yeosu, respectively. In addition, the amount of OS that could be used as drainage material for reclaimed land was much higher than annual OS production of South Korea. Therefore, it is considered that OS is sufficient to be used as drainage material for reclaimed land in South Korea.
This paper concerns the study of absorption refrigeration and heat pump cycle to use sewage. Simulation analysis on the double-effect absorption refrigeration cycle with parallel and two-stage heat pump cycle has been performed. The working fluid is Lithium Bromide and water solution. The absorption refrigeration cycle use sewage as a cooling water for the absorber and condenser, and absorption refrigeration cycle does that as a chilled water for the evaporator of the first stage cycle. And the two-stage cycle consists of coupling double-effect with parallel and single effect cycle so that the first stage absorber and condenser produces heating water to evaporate refrigerant in the evaporator of the second stage. The effects of operating variables such as a absorber temperature on the coefficient of performance have been studied for absorption refrigeration and heat pump cycle.

This paper presents the new cascade liquefaction cycles using $CO_2-C_2H_6-N_2$ and $CO_2-N_2$. The performance and exergy of cascade liquefaction cycles are analyzed using HYSYS software and then confirmed the possibility of these cycles for LNG-FPSO ship. From the comparison of performance and exergy loss of these cycles, the cascade liquefaction cycles using $CO_2-C_2H_6-N_2$ showed higher performance and the cycle using $CO_2-N_2$ presented higher exergy loss. The cascade liquefaction cycle using $CO_2-N_2$ is lower efficiency and higher compressor work compared to the optimized cascade liquefaction cycle using $C_3H_8-C_2H_4-C_1H_4$. But, if the efficiency of $N_2$ cycle in these liquefaction cycles is improved, it is possible to apply the cascade liquefaction cycle using $CO_2-C_2H_6-N_2$ and $CO_2-N_2$ to LNG-FPSO ship due to the simple composition device of these cycles.

The $LiCoO_2$ powder was synthesized at >$700^{\circ}C$, >$850^{\circ}C$ by solution route. In this paper, we investigated X-ray diffraction, and charge-discharge performance for $LiCoO_2$/Li and $LiCoO_2$/MPCF cell. The $LiCoO_2$/Li ceSl exhibited a high avmge discharge potential of 38-3% and a good cycle life performance at 5(hnA/g during chargedischarge cycling between 43-3.0V. And, the $LiCoO_2$MPCF cell showed a high average discharge voltage of 3.6-3.W and a excellent cycle life prfomam during chargedischarge cycling b&wm 4 2-2.W. As a result, the $LiCoO_2$ powdm syd-eizd by solution route is a good cathode material for lithium ion secondary battery.
