In this paper, we introduce a fuzzy inference systems for nonlinear inference using fuzzy cluster. Typically, the generation of fuzzy rules for nonlinear inference causes the problem that the number of fuzzy rules increases exponentially if the input vectors increase. To handle this problem, the fuzzy rules of fuzzy model are designed by dividing the input vector space in the scatter form using fuzzy clustering algorithm which expresses fuzzy cluster. From this method, complex nonlinear process can be modeled. The premise part of the fuzzy rules is determined by means of FCM clustering algorithm with fuzzy clusters. The consequence part of the fuzzy rules have four kinds of polynomial functions and the coefficient parameters of each rule are estimated by using the standard least-squares method. And we use the data widely used in nonlinear process for the performance and the nonlinear characteristics of the nonlinear process. Experimental results show that the non-linear inference is possible.
The energy consumption problem in wireless sensor networks is investigated. The problem is to expend as little energy as possible receiving and transmitting data, because of constrained battery. In this paper, in order to extend the lifetime of the network, we proposed a location-based clustering algorithm for wireless sensor network with skewed-topology. The proposed algorithm is to deploy multiple child nodes at the sink to avoid bottleneck near the sink and to save energy. Proposed algorithm can reduce control traffic overhead by creating a dynamic cluster. We have evaluated the performance of our clustering algorithm through an analysis and a simulation. We compare our algorithm's performance to the best known centralized algorithm, and demonstrate that it achieves a good performance in terms of the life time.

As a modeling method where the merits of fuzzy inference system and evolutionary computation are put together, evolutionary fuzzy modeling performs global approximate optimization. The paper proposes fuzzy clustering as fuzzy rule generation process which is one of the most important steps in evolutionary fuzzy modeling. With application of fuzzy clustering into the experiment or simulation results, fuzzy rules which properly describe non-linear and complex design problem can be obtained. The efficiency of evolutionary fuzzy modeling can be improved utilizing the membership degrees of data to clusters from the results of fuzzy clustering. To ensure the validity of the proposed method, the real design problem of an automotive inner trim is applied and the global approximation is achieved. Evolutionary fuzzy modeling is performed for several cases which differ in the number of clusters and the criterion of rule selection and their results are compared to prove that the proposed method can provide proper fuzzy rules for a given system and reduce computation time while maintaining the errors of modeling as a satisfactory level.

Fuzzy c-means (FCM) and possibilistic c-means (PCM) are the two most well-known clustering algorithms in fuzzy clustering area, and have been applied in many applications in their original or modified forms. However, FCM's noise sensitivity problem and PCM's overlapping cluster problem are also well known. Recently there have been several attempts to combine both of them to mitigate the problems and possibilistic fuzzy c-means (PFCM) showed promising results. In this paper, we proposed a modified PFCM using regularization to reduce noise sensitivity in PFCM further. Regularization is a well-known technique to make a solution space smooth and an algorithm noise insensitive. The proposed algorithm, PFCM with regularization (PFCM-R), can take advantage of regularization and further reduce the effect of noise. Experimental results are given and show that the proposed method is better than the existing methods in noisy conditions.
Document-term frequency matrix is a type of data used in text mining. This matrix is often based on various documents provided by the objects to be analyzed. When analyzing objects using this matrix, researchers generally select only terms that are common in documents belonging to one object as keywords. Keywords are used to analyze the object. However, this method misses the unique information of the individual document as well as causes a problem of removing potential keywords that occur frequently in a specific document. In this study, we define data that can overcome this problem as proximity data. We introduce twelve methods that generate proximity data and cluster the objects through two clustering methods of multidimensional scaling and k-means cluster analysis. Finally, we choose the best method to be optimized for clustering the object.
In weighted k-nearest neighbor (WkNN)-based Fingerprinting positioning step, a process of comparing the requested positioning signal with signal information for each reference point stored in the fingerprint DB is performed. At this time, the higher the number of matched base station identifiers, the higher the possibility that the terminal exists in the corresponding location, and in fact, an additional weight is added to the location in proportion to the number of matching base stations. On the other hand, if the matching number of base stations is small, the selected candidate reference point has high dependence on the similarity value of the signal. But one problem arises here. The positioning signal can be compared with the repeater signal in the signal information stored on the DB, and the corresponding reference point can be selected as a candidate location. The selected reference point is likely to be an outlier, and if a certain weight is applied to the corresponding location, the error of the estimated location information increases. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a WkNN technique including an outlier removal function. To this end, it is first determined whether the repeater signal is included in the DB information of the matched base station. If the reference point for the repeater signal is selected as the candidate position, the reference position corresponding to the outlier is removed based on the clustering technique. The performance of the proposed technique is verified through data acquired in Seocho 1 and 2 dongs in Seoul.
It takes the most important role the problem of assigining vehicles and desigining optimal routes for each vehicle in order to enhance the logistics service level. While solving the problem, various cost factors such as number of vehicles, the capacity of vehicles, total travelling distance, should be considered at the same time. Although most of logistics service providers introduced the Transportation Management System (TMS), the system has the limitation which can not consider the practical constraints. In order to make the solution of TMS applicable, it is required experts revised the solution of TMS based on their own experience and intuition. In this research, different from previous research which have focused on minimizing the total cost, it has been proposed the methodology which can enhance the efficiency and fairness of asset utilization, simultaneously. First of all, it has been adopted the Cluster-First Route-Second (CFRS) approach. Based on the location of customers, we have grouped customers as clusters by using four different clustering algorithm such as K-Means, K-Medoids, DBSCAN, Model-based clustering and a procedural approach, Fisher & Jaikumar algorithm. After getting the result of clustering, it has been developed the optiamal vehicle routes within clusters. Based on the result of numerical experiments, it can be said that the propsed approach based on CFRS may guarantee the better performance in terms of total travelling time and distance. At the same time, the variance of travelling distance and number of visiting customers among vehicles, it can be concluded that the proposed approach can guarantee the better performance of assigning tasks in terms of fairness.
Conventional truss optimization approaches, while often sophisticated and computationally intensive, have been applied to simple, minimum weight-cost models. These approaches do not perform well when applied to real-world trusses, which have costmodels that are complex and which often involve multiple objectives. Thus, this paper describes the optimization strategies that a clustering technique, which identifies members that are likely to have the same product type, uses for the optimal design of truss structures with real- world cost functions that consider the costs on the weight of the truss, the number of products in the design, the number of joints in the structures, and the costs required in the site.At first, the clustering technique is applied to identify the members and to generate a proper initial solution. A simple taboo search technique is then used, which attempts to generate the optimal solution by starting with the solution from the previous technique. For example, the proposed approach is a plied to a typical problem and to a problem similar to relative performances. The results show that this algorithm generates not only better-quality solutions but also more efficient ones
Detecting and segmenting diffuse targets in laser ranging data is a critical problem for tactical reconnaissance. In this study, we propose a new method that facilitates the characterization of diffuse irregularly shaped objects using "spin images," i.e., local 2D histograms of laser returns oriented in 3D space, and a clustering process. The proposed "cluster-based spin imaging" method resolves the problem of using standard spin images for diffuse targets and it eliminates much of the computational complexity that characterizes the production of conventional spin images. The direct processing of pre-segmented laser points, including internal points that penetrate through a diffuse object's topmost surfaces, avoids some of the requirements of the approach used at present for spin image generation, while it also greatly reduces the high computational time overheads incurred by searches to find correlated images. We employed 3D airborne range data over forested terrain to demonstrate the effectiveness of this method in discriminating the different geometric structures of individual tree clusters. Our experiments showed that cluster-based spin images have the potential to separate classes in terms of different ages and portions of tree crowns.
A damage detection algorithm based on neuro fuzzy hybrid system is presented in this study for location and severity predictions of cracks in beam-like structures. A combination of eigenfrequencies and rotation deviation curves are utilized as input to the soft computing technique. Both single and multiple damage cases are considered. Theoretical expressions leading to modal properties of damaged beam elements are provided. The beam formulation is based on Euler-Bernoulli theory. The cracked section of beam is simulated employing discrete spring model whose compliance is computed from stress intensity factors of fracture mechanics. A hybrid neuro fuzzy technique is utilized to solve the inverse problem of crack identification. Two different neuro fuzzy systems including grid partitioning (GP) and subtractive clustering (SC) are investigated for the highlighted problem. Several error metrics are utilized for evaluating the accuracy of the hybrid algorithms. The study is the first in terms of 1) using the two models of neuro fuzzy systems in crack detection and 2) considering multiple damages in beam elements employing the fused neuro fuzzy procedures. At the end of the study, the developed hybrid models are tested by utilizing the noise-contaminated data. Considering the robustness of the models, they can be employed as damage identification algorithms in health monitoring of beam-like structures.
