The purpose of this study was to ensure that materialism is an important explanation variable not only for consumption behavior of clothing but also for recycling attitude and behavior of clothing. Therefore, we investigated the influence of materialism and environment consciousness on recycling attitude and behavior of clothing. A total of 210 survey questionnaires were collected. The results revealed that materialism didn't directly affect recycling attitude, but that the happiness dimension of materialism negatively affected environment consciousness and that materialism indirectly affected recycling attitude and behavior via environment consciousness. Environment consciousness dimensions partially affected recycling attitude and behavior of clothing. Recycling altitude positively affected recycling behavior.
This study analyzed the perceptions related to recycling clothing and the actual conditions of unused clothing based on demographic characteristics to help reduce environmental pollution. A total of 833 questionnaires were used in data analysis for this survey study. The subjects consisted of men and women in their 20s to 50s who resided in Gyeongnam and Ulsan, Korea. The data were analyzed by χ2-test using SPSS. The results obtained were as follows. The intention to recycle others' clothing was significantly different for all the demographic characteristics. Overall, the response "I have an intention to recycle others' clothing" was reported by a relatively high proportion of the respondents. The analysis of the motivation to others' clothing showed a significant difference in all demographic characteristics except gender. The main motivation for recycling clothing was because "I wanted to recycle the clothing". The factors hindering recycling others' clothing showed significant differences according to gender, marital status, and occupation. The main hindrance factor was reported as "feeling uncomfortable". The causes of occurrence of unused T-shirts significantly different for all demographic characteristics. The causes of occurrence of unused trousers and skirts was significantly different for all demographic characteristics except monthly income. The cause of undisposed, unused clothing was related to all demographic characteristics Overall, the response "reluctant to dispose of" was reported by a relatively high proportion of the respondents.

The purpose of this study is to understand the Korean consumers' socially responsible clothing acquisition behavior respond to altruistic and economic incentives toward recycling of clothing and the relations between demographic variables and acquisition behavior. Data were collected from the adult females residing in Seoul. Judgement Sampling were performed twice and total 549 sets of answers were used for final analysis. The results are as follows : First the consumers of favoring altruistic and economic incentive prefer to acquire clothing with free cost and the consumers favoring altruistic incentive tend to acquire clothing through unknown persons,. Second the analysis of relationship between the attitude toward recycling incentives and the demographic variables shows that the consumers with relatively higher education have strong will for recycling by altruistic incentive. Third the analysis of relationship between acquisition behavior and the demographic variables shows that consumers with relatively lower education normally acquire clothing from unknown persons and from acquaintance. In addition married persons tend to acquire clothing at free of cost.

The satisfaction level of school uniform was not high, The lowest item was the price. Therefore, to increase the satisfaction level of the school uniforms and also to increase the sanitary level of the school uniforms, it was advisable to purchase a recycled school uniform at cheaper prices to have an extra set. For a vitalization of the recycled school uniforms, the middle school technology/home economy subjects were reviewed. In the topic of "clothing acquisition plan and purchase", the themes of planned purchase, overconsumption of clothing and environmental pollution were discussed and included preferable behaviors for disposal. The topic of "clothing manufacturing and recycling" listed recycling the clothes that are not worn or exchanging them with neighbors as well as suggesting methods to illicit environment-friendly behaviors and carrying them out. However, some textbooks only briefly explained the methods of recycling and more detailed and practical methods need to be suggested in the curriculum. In addition, the contents regarding the environment in the clothing topic need to be supplemented more and more changes, such as related education plans or data development, are required. This study was executed to deduce the factors affecting eco-friendly behaviors and attitudes, to analyse the difference of eco-friendly behaviors and attitudes between countries, and to draw the variables affecting clothing recycling behavior. The sample comprised people from the UK, China, South Korea. The results were as follows. The four factors related to eco-friendly behaviors and the five factors related to eco-friendly attitudes were derived from the results of factor analysis. In the case of eco-friendly behaviors, four eco-friendly behavior factors showed a significant difference all according to gender and country. In the case of eco-friendly attitudes, saving of natural resources for eco-friendly life, recycling for eco-friendly life, and individual preference for eco-friendly life showed a significant according to gender, also recycling for eco-friendly life, individual preference for eco-friendly life, social awareness for eco-friendly life, and company's awareness for eco-friendly life showed a significant difference according to country. All of the variables related to clothing recycling behaviors showed the significant difference according to gender and countries. It was verified that the stronger the behaviors or attitudes for waste recycling and environmental protection, individual preference for eco-friendly life, saving of natural resources, buying eco-friendly products, and separate collection for recycling, the more positive the action to clothing recycling. The results of this study will be helpful to establish a marketing strategy for each country and to deduce a plan to attract clothing recycling form people.
Focusing on 'reuse' with a view to the importance of unused cloths, this paper investigates the aspects of consumers' recycling attitudes regarding the cause and treatment of unused clothes. This research examines the responsibilities for recycling from the standpoint of consumers, and shows their requirements and advice to consumers themselves, clothing companies as the subject of production and the government and society. Considering the pattern of clothing life, this research deals with housewives who live I Seoul, Sung-nam and Choong-ju. After several pretests, the content and format of this questionnaire is revised and added. This investigation is carred by individual interviews and reponders' filling-out, from 24 November 1997 to 5 January 1998. Among the total 1,200 questionnaires, 1,150 sheets are taken back, but only 1,132 are available to analysis. The results are as follows: Most of all, among the causes of unused clothes, the problem of clothes itself is stemmed from the more responsibility of clothing companies rather than consumers'. From production to sale the companies, considering environment and recycling, should choose proper cloth material and adequate design. And then they require the consumers' attention to laundry and conservation. More important, consumers' attitudes should be changed because consumers themselves, in fact, recognize their responsibilities for recycling of clothing, from the questionnaire. After all, the recycling of clothing should lead to reduction of unused clothes as a fundamental solution. When it comes to unused clothes, its elimination pays more money and needs specialization. Moreover, citizens should participate in the problem independently and more information on the policies of recycling should be well-informed.
This study aimed to give an updated description of general clothing behavior patterns of the Korean elderly women. 430 women over 60 years old residing in Seoul wre surveyed with a questionnaire asking about their daily practices of clothing selection, disposal, recycling, quantity and place of purchase, and their background variables. Data were treated to SPSS for descriptive statistics, Chi-square analysis, ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test. The result revealed that the wardrobe of the Korean aged women is by now fully oriented toward the western style. The subjects disposed of their clothing mainly because of their body size changes and had elementary fitting problems unsolved. They had clothing recycling experinces and turned out to be inactive clothing consumers with differing shopping places according to the types of clothing items to be purchased. The subjects'age and income level had significant effects on various facets of their clothing behavior.
This study, focused on reuse of the concepts of unused clothing recycling, was intended to provide basic materials and suggestions for establishing the drastic measures necessary for consumer education related to recycling by investigating how experiences in the recycling of unused clothes would show up according to environmental consciousness and recycling consciousness and then probing the scheme for the recycling of clothes. Since it was found that recycling consciousness was the variable that exerted a great effect on experiences in recycling unused clothes, consumer education about recycling will have to be revitalized. And detailed and specialized education on environmental consciousness is more important than emphasis on the importance of environmental consciousness.
The purposes of this study were to categorize of pro-environmental clothing purchasing and disposal behaviors and to identify impacts of health and environment consciousness on pro-environmental clothing purchase and disposal behaviors. The subjects were homemakers (n=381), and they were segmented into LOHAS group, environment conscious group, unconscious group, and wellbeing group according to their health and environment consciousness. Older homemakers were included in LOHAS group and environment conscious group. And these homemakers performed pro-environmental clothing purchasing and disposal behaviors better than wellbeing group or unconscious group. Health consciousness was positively related with the second-hand clothing purchasing and recycling. Environment consciousness was positively related with clothing made with organic, natural or functional materials, or the second-hand clothing purchasing, and recycling of the second-hand clothing. There was a need to develop continuing education programs to strengthen homemakers' health and environment consciousness, or to upgrade their pro-environmental clothing purchase and disposal behaviors.

Purchasing behavior for upcycled fashion products was examined along with analysis on environment consciousness, clothing recycling behavior, interest in fashion and awareness of upcycling. Students from middle schools, general high schools and design high schools participated in this research from August to September in 2013. 732 questionnaires were analyzed by SPSS WIN. Firstly the levels of environmental consciousness, clothing recycling behavior and interest in fashion of students were high, low and mediate respectively. Female students showed higher environmental consciousness compared to male ones and clothing recycling behavior were found to be higher in students of design high schools than those of general ones. The level of interest in fashion was found to be higher in students of general high school than those of middle school, and this was higher in design high school students than those of general ones. Secondly, more than half of students were unaware of upcycling. Female students and students of design high schools were highly aware of upcycling. Students who were aware of upcycling showed high level of environmental consciousness, clothing recycling behaviour and interest in fashion. Thirdly, students had low experiences in purchasing upcycled fashion products and the reason was lack of awareness of upcycling. The reason that students purchased upcycled fashion products was the uniqueness and design. Students who purchased upcycled fashion products showed high environmental consciousness, clothing recycling behaviour, and interest in fashion.
