A Study on Appearance Management Behavior of Male Consumers(II) -Examination Appearance Management Motives and Body Image Perception between the Groups According to Appearance Management Behavior- (남성들의 외모관리행동에 관한 연구(II) -외모관리행동 집단 간 외모관리동기 및 신체이미지 비교-)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the appearance management motives and body image perception according to males' appearance management behavior. A set of questionnaire was administered to 398 male consumers. Data were analyzed by utilizing frequency, factor analysis, ANONA, cluster analysis, and crosstabs. Factor analysis of body image perception extracted four factors such as appearance concern, appearance satisfaction, exercise ability, and weight control. Four groups of the appearance management behavior were classified into such as health oriented, active figure management, indifference to personal appearance, and fashion/skin care by cluster analysis. All groups pursued sociality in appearance management motives. The active figure management group showed highest concern about in all the appearance management motives and body image perception.

An Analysis of the Causal Relationships between Cognition, Attitude, and Behavior toward Appearance Management (외모관리에 대한 인지, 태도, 행동 간의 인과관계 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of appearance management cognition on attitude toward appearance management and the effect of this attitude on appearance management behavior. It also examines how demographic factors affect these relationships. This study gave a questionnaire survey to adults between the ages of 40 and 50 in Seoul, Daegu, and Ulsan, South Korea. Data collected from 368 respondents were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, factor analysis, and structural equation modeling. The study model was tested by structural equation modeling, the results of which revealed a positive effect of appearance management cognition on attitude toward appearance management and a positive effect of attitude toward appearance management on appearance management behavior. The results of t-testing showed that there were significant differences in cognition, attitude, and behavior toward appearance management by gender, age, educational level, and income.

A Tendency of Appearance Management Behavior and Pursuing Ideal Age -Focused on the 20's and the 30's Korean- (외모관리 행동과 이상적 연령 추구경향 -20~30대를 중심으로-)

  • This study has examined the 20's and the 30's Korean who have a desire, 'to be getting younger' and how to relate what appearance management-behavior they follow. The methodology of this study used both theoretical and quantitative research for an empirical study. First, a theoretical study researched a big stream of the 20's and the 30's Koreans' to be getting younger' on articles based on the social and cultural background of the past 30 years that defined various concepts of age through previous research. Data was also collected via SMS for five months (August to December 2014) and 96 Korean participants in their 20's and the 30's who have lived in and around Seoul. The results of the survey analysis showed that the desire of 'to be getting younger' irrelevant to the age among Korean young people. In addition, this tendency to be the ideal age as being younger is realized by appearance management sort of skin care or clothing styling among 20's and the 30's Korean. This study suggested a phenomenon, 'to be getting younger' in Korean society would lead to an alternative sort of age that targets individual taste rather than the chronological age in the apparel market.

A Study on Body Cathexis, Satisfaction with Apparel Fit and Appearance- Management Behaviors according to Physical figure (여대생의 신체적 특성에 따른 신체만족도 및 의복만족도, 외모관리행동에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences between the body cathexis, appearance management behaviors and satisfaction with apparel fit according to physical figure of college women who had deep interests in their body and appearance. Data for this study was obtained from 413 college women in Taegu and Kyungpook Province. Means, t-test, ANOVA and Scheffe's post hoc comparison were used in data analysis. The result of this study were; 1. It was found that both body Cathexis and fit satisfaction of college women were generally low. College women were less satisfied with their body and fit of apparel. The unsatisfied body parts were thighs, abdomen and hip. 2. Significant differences in Satisfaction with apparel fit were found in skirt length, slacks length, thigh according to height and significant difference in satisfaction with apparel fit were found in armhole, abdomen, calf according to weight. 3. Significant differences in appearance management behaviors were not found according to height, but significant differences in diet, exercise and clothing use were found according to weight. Also significant differences in diet and clothing use were found according to R$\ddot{o}$hrer index.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the appearance management behavior and its motives according to male consumers' age. A set of questionnaire was administered to 398 male consumers. Data were analyzed by utilizing frequency, factor analysis, ANONA, and Crosstabs. The results showed that factors of the appearance management behavior were classified into such as fashion oriented, figure management, figure improvement, skin care, cosmetic surgery, hair care, and health oriented. The male consumers age in the 20s, were more conscious of the appearance management. The male consumers aged over 40s were more aware of figure management and hair care for better health oriented. Appearance management behavior motives were classified into individuality, sociality, and interest arousal. Most of the male consumers showed higher interests in sociality among appearance management motives for better personal relations at workplace and increasing competitive edge.

A Qualitative Research about the CRM Experiences of Apparel Brand Customers (의류브랜드 소비자의 고객관계관리 경험에 관한 탐색적 연구 - 남성복, 여성복, 캐주얼, 스포츠의류 소비자의 비교를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study were 1) to analyze customer relationship management(CRM) based on the online customer experiences by product types (i.e., men's, women's, casual, sports wear), 2) to analyze CRM based on the off-line customer experiences by product type, and 3) to examine customer purchase behavior of fashion products and internet usage behavior by product types. Survey and 1:1 interview were conducted from January 13th to May 16th, 2005. Six consumers from each brand (i.e., 3 loyal customers and 3 general customers) in a total of 24 customers were selected from each product type. For the data analysis, content analysis and descriptive statistics (i.e. frequency) were used. Among the key study findings first, as a result of the on-line CRM experience, the customers of men's wear preferred receiving customized information through e-mail or SMS service. The customers of sports wear preferred receiving a different level of information and participating in customized product service. Second, as a result of the off-line CRM experience, the customers of men's wear need to be encouraged to join a membership at a sales encounter and the customers of women's wear preferred receiving quick information of new products and participating in a design development planning of the merchandising process. Third, the purchasing behavior of the customers of women's wear are influenced mostly by the salesperson and the store atmosphere when they purchase clothes and the customers of men's wear are price-sensitive. The results of this study can be used when fashion brands perform strategic planning and decision making on CRM.

A comparative study of general values and clothing behavior of college female students in Korea and America. (한국과 미국 여대생의 가치관과 의복선택행동에 관한 비교연구)

  • It is generallybelieved that the values of female students are different depending on the cultural enviromment of society. The purpose of this paper is to discern the value orientation of female students in Korea and America, and how they are related to the clothing behavior. 300 female students were selected as sample from the Univ. of Minnesota and 158 students filled out the questionnair. 420 female students were selected from five unversities in Jinju, Taegy and Pusan. RESULTS : 1) Korean students had highly evaluated theaethetic, political, religious and social values, and American students had higher evaluation on the economic and American students had higher evaluation on the economic and theoretical values. 2) Korean students tended to regard modesty, conformity and management as important factors when they chose new clothes, and for American students, appearance and tool were important. 3) The impact of values on clothing vehavior was as follows. a) Korean students who emphasized theoretical values did not use clothes as an instrument of status symbol and modesty. b) American students who emphasized the economic values tended to have an interest in purchase and wearing of clothes on purpose. c) Korean students who had positive attitudes on the aethetic values tended to be conservative, but they wanted to use the clothes as a demonstration of self exaggeraton. d) Korean students who regarded social values important tended to have a higher interest in the management of clothes. e) Korean students who had highly evaluated the religious values tended to be conservative when the selected new clothes. American students did not want to conform to the group norm when they chose new clothes. On the whole, American students did not put on clothes to achieve a specific goal. In short, it can be concluded that Korean students and American students have different values and they have a great impact on their clothing behavior.

Cosmetic Customers' Complaint Behaviors -Focused on the Changes of Complaint Behaviors before and after the Complaint Management Experiences- (화장품 구매고객 불평행동 연구 -불평처리 경험전과 후 불평행동 변화를 중심으로-)

  • This article deals with the customers' complaint behaviors and complaint management for cosmetic customers. The general aim is to analyze the changes of complaint behavioral responses before and after the complaint management experiences, describing customers' response patterns in terms of how they are influenced by the service justice and satisfaction of complaint management. The most relevant contributions from the related theoretical work indicate that the better the customer complaints are managed, the higher the level of possibility for customers to complaint, especially for public and direct responses(complaint behaviors). The only exception, although the statistical significant support was not found, is the private response, as the chance gets lower than before experiencing the complaint management.

A Structural Study on Social Self-Efficacy, Appearance Concern, Body Cathexis, Appearance Management Behavior (사회적 자기효능감, 외모관심, 외모만족, 외모관리행동에 관한 계층적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among influence of Social Self-Efficacy, Appearance Concern, Body Cathexis, Appearance Management Behavior. The subjects of this study were 709 women aged for 20 to 50 living in Daegu. The questionnaires were conveniently sampled from December 20 to 31, 2007. The SPSS 14.0 package was use for data analysis which included Frequency analysis, Factor analysis, Cronbach's a and Analysis Structural Equation Modeling by utilizing of Amos 5.0. The results of this study were as follows; First, the social self-efficacy showed a positive influence on both appearance concern and the body cathexis. And the social self-efficacy had a negative influence on appearance management behavior. Second, appearance concern showed a positive influence on appearance management behavior, but there was not a significant relationship between appearance concern and body cathexis. Third body cathexis showed a positive influence on appearance management behavior.
