  • This paper presents a design of a 2-phase segmental stator type 4/3 switched reluctance motor (SRM) for air-blower application. The air-blower requires only one direction rotation, high rotor speed without torque dead-zone. In order to satisfy the requirements of the load, the rotor of the 4/3 proposed SRM is designed with wider rotor pole arc and non-uniform air-gap is applied on the rotor shape. With a special rotor structure, the motor generates a wider positive torque region and has no torque dead-zone. The stator of the proposed SRM is constructed with two segmental C-cores, and there are no magnetic connections between 2 C-cores. The flux follows in a short closed loop in each C-core and has no reversal flux in the stator. The static and dynamic characteristics of the proposed motor are analyzed by the finite element method (FEA) and Matlab-Simulink, respectively. In order to verify the design, a prototype of the proposed motor has manufactured for laboratory test. The performance of the proposed motor is verified by the simulation and experimental results.

  • In this paper, an improved integral variable structure regulation controller is designed by using a special integral sliding surface and a disturbance observer for the improved regulation control of highly nonlinear rigid robot manipulators with prescribed output performance. The sliding surface having the integral state with a special initial condition is employed in this paper to exactly predetermine the ideal sliding trajectory from a given initial condition to the desired reference without any reaching phase. And a continuous sliding mode input using the disturbance observer is also introduced in order to effectively follow the predetermined sliding trajectory within the prescribed accuracy without large computation burden. The performance of the prescribed tracking accuracy to the predetermined sliding trajectory is clearly investigated in detail through the two theorems, together with the closed loop stability. The design of the proposed regulation controller is separated into the performance design and robustness design in each independent link. The usefulness of the algorithm has been demonstrated through simulation studies on the regulation control of a two-link robot under parameter uncertainties and payload variations.

  • This paper presents the modeling method of $3\Phi$ phase-controlled rectifier for the DC motor drive in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. This method has no need to extend the system mathematically and thus it's easy to integrate the various systems. The whole model consists of $3\Phi$ phase-controlled rectifier block, DC motor block and speed/current controller block. The simulation results show that the model outputs are almost similar to those of the real system and therefore that the presented method is suitable for the research of the closed-loop controlled power electronic systems.

  • In this paper, the helicopter flight control system using online adaptive neural networks which have the universal function approximation property is considered. It is not compensation for modeling errors but approximation two functions required for feedback linearization control action from input/output of the system. To guarantee the tracking performance and the stability of the closed loop system replaced two nonlinear functions by two neural networks, weight update laws are provided by Lyapunov function and the simulation results in low speed flight mode verified the performance of the control system with the neural networks.

  • Structural control technologies have attracted great interest from the earthquake engineering community over the last few decades as an effective method of reducing undesired structural responses. Traditional structural control systems employ large quantities of cables to connect structural sensors, actuators, and controllers into one integrated system. To reduce the high-costs associated with labor-intensive installations, wireless communication can serve as an alternative real-time communication link between the nodes of a control system. A prototype wireless structural sensing and control system has been physically implemented and its performance verified in large-scale shake table tests. This paper introduces the design of this prototype system and investigates the feasibility of employing decentralized and partially decentralized control strategies to mitigate the challenge of communication latencies associated with wireless sensor networks. Closed-loop feedback control algorithms are embedded within the wireless sensor prototypes allowing them to serve as controllers in the control system. To validate the embedment of control algorithms, a 3-story half-scale steel structure is employed with magnetorheological (MR) dampers installed on each floor. Both numerical simulation and experimental results show that decentralized control solutions can be very effective in attaining the optimal performance of the wireless control system.

  • This paper presents a digitally speed sensorless control system for induction motor with direct torque control (DTC). Some drawbacks of the classical DTC are the relatively large torque ripple in a low speed range and notable current pulsation during steady state. They are reflected speed response and increased acoustical noise. In this paper, the DTC quick response are preserved at transient state, while better qualify steady state performance is produced by space vector modulation (SVM). The system are closed loop stator flux and torque observer for wide speed range that inputs are currents and voltages sensing of motor terminal, model reference adaptive control (MRAC) with rotor flux linkages for the speed fuming signal at low speed range, two hysteresis controllers and optimal switching look-up table. Simulation results of the suggest system for the 2.2 [kW] general purposed induction motor are presented and discussed.

  • The stewart platform manipulator is a manipulator that has the closed-loop structure with an upper plate end-effector and a base frame. The stewart platform manipulator has the merit of high working accuracy and high stiffness compared with a serial manipulator. However, this is a complex structure, so controllability of the system is not so good. In this paper, we introduce a new robust motion control algorithm using partial state feedback for a class of nonlinear systems in the presence of modelling uncertainties and external disturbances. The major contribution of this work introduces the development and design of robust observer for the state and the perturbation, which is integrated into a variable structure controller(VSC) structure. The combination of controller/observer improves the control performance, because of the robust routine called sliding mode control with sliding perturbation observer(SMCSPO). Simulation and experiment are performed to apply to the manipulator. And their results show a high accuracy and a good performance.

  • This paper presents system modeling, modified space vector PWM implementation and design of a closed loop controller of the Z-source inverter which consists of L and C components and shoot-through zero vectors for DGS. Zero vector periods of SVPWM utilized to boost DC-link voltage instead of conventional DC/DC converter and transformer. Only two shoot-through vut(nn are used for DC link voltage control during one switching period without loss of non-zero vectors. Discrete time sliding mode controller, robust servomechanism controller are designed to realize fast and no-overshoot current response and a steady state voltage error. Simulation results are shows the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper suggests a deign method of the model-following $H{\infty}$ control system having robust performance. This $H{\infty}$ control system is designed by applying genetic algorithm(GA) with reference model to the optimal determination of weighting functions and design parameter ${\gamma}$ that are given by $H{\infty}$ control theory. These weighting functions and design parameter ${\gamma}$ are optimized simultaneously in the search domain guaranteeing the robust performance of closed-loop system. The effectiveness of this $H_{\infty}$ control system is verified by computer simulation.
