Comparison of Reliability of PSSC Girder Bridge for Different Limit States (PSSC 거더 교량의 한계상태별 신뢰도 비교)

  • Reliability analysis of prestressed steel and concrete(PSSC) girders is conducted for deflection, stress and moment strength limit state. PSSC girder has strong advantages in terms of construction cost and vertical clearance for the span length of over 40 meters. In this paper, example PSSC girders with different span lengths, section dimensions and design stress levels are designed and analyzed to calculate the midspan deflection, stress and the section moment strength. Deflection limit state, stress limit state and strength limit state functions are assumed and the reliability indexes are obtained by Monte-Carlo simulation and Rackwitz-Fiessler procedure. The results show that the reliability of PSSC girder for deflection limit state is appropriately higher than the stress limit state and the reliability for moment strength is significantly conservative.

  • To design ship channel is one of important factors for planning and developing a port. In most case, the core factors for designing ship channel are the layout and width of dvnnel provided the net underkeel clearance is assessed as safety. In this study, Variable Bumper Area(VBA) model is applied to design and assess ship channel. This model reflects ship's principle dimension, ship domain theory, ship speed, conning officer's ship handling skill and experience and all external forces which cause leeway, set and drift and the change of ship maneuvering characteristics. Full Mission Ship Handling Simulator is used to analyze ship dynamic data according to conning officer's ship control, external forces, etc. This model uses Domain-index for assessing the efficiency and safety of the channel. The proposed model is applied to Ulsan new port plan which has a channel width of 1.5 times the length if the largest vessel, a radius if 5 times the length of the largest vessel in a curve of 57 degree centerline angle and SBM facility adjacent to the lateral edge if channel. The result of this study shows tint the width and radius of channel curve are suitable for the target ship but the difficulty of ship handling is caused by the large course change and SBM located in the vicinity if channel.

A real time, full mission shiphandling simulator is used to analyze ship dynamic data according to mariner's ship control, external forces, ete. This model defines Domain degree and Domain-index for assessing the efficiency and safety of the channel.   • To design the cockpit of Korean helicopter, anthropometric data for Korean helicopter pilots as a target population is necessary. The present study measured the body sizes of Korean helicopter pilots to design the cockpit of Korean helicopter, and compared the measurements with those of Korean civilian and the US Army. The sample size was 100 which determined by a statistical analysis. Anthropometric measurements were collected for 100 samples (male = 94, female = 6; age group = 20~40) of Korean helicopter pilots by applying standard measurement protocol. To compare three anthropometric data, Korean civilian and US Army data were controlled by considering age group (20~40) and gender ratio (male: female = 9:1) of Korean helicopter pilots. The average body sizes of Korean helicopter pilots were mostly similar to those of Korean civilian, however, lower limb related variables (hip breadth, popliteal height and thigh clearance) and shoulder-to-elbow length were significantly greater (1~7%) at α=0.05. Furthermore, the average body sizes for Korean helicopter pilots regarding lower limb length and thickness were significantly smaller than those of the US Army (1~12%); however, the average body sizes for Korean helicopter pilots regarding upper body related variables (sitting height, sitting eye height, and acromial height) and hip breadth were significantly greater (0.7~1.9%). Lastly, size variability for Korean helicopter pilots was significantly smaller than those of Korean civilian and the US Army. Anthropometric data for Korean helicopter pilots of the present study was applied to design and evaluate a Korean helicopter cockpit.

Relationship of Glomerular Basement Membrane Alterations to Epithelial Cell Structure and Clinical Parameters in Alport Syndrome (Alport 증후군에서 사구체 기저막의 형태학적 변화와 사구체 상피세포의 구조 및 임상지표와의 관계)

  • Purpose : This study was performed to evaluate the relationship between glomerular basement membrane (GBM) alterations to epithelial cell (EpC) structure and renal function in Alport Syndrome (AS) patients. Methods : Fifteen patients diagnosed with AS (4-26yrs) were examined. The GBM in AS was categorized as : C1) normal, C2) minor alterations (widening of lamina rara interna or externa without lamina densa change), C3) nonspecific splitting of lamina densa, C4) basket-weaving pattern of lamina densa splitting. The length of each GBM portion along the epithelial side was measured on the systematically obtained electron microscopic photographs. Furthermore to obtain an objective assessment of the degree of glomerular EpC foot process change, the number of slit pores along $10\;{\mu}m$ of peripheral GBM in each category was obtained. Results : The percentage of normal GBM portion (C1) correlated inversely with daily protein excretion (g/day/$m^2$, P<0.05) and sum of the percentage of abnormal GBM portion (C2+C3+C4) had direct correlation with daily protein excretion (g/day/$m^2$, P<0.05). There were no significant relationships between the percentages of other categories of GBM alterations and creatinine clearance or protein excretion. There were no significant relationships between of creatinine clearance in relation to normal GBM(C1) portion as well as that in relation to sum of the percentage of abnormal GBM portion (C2+C3+C4). GBM abnormality did not correlate with age at biopsy. Conclusion : The extent of GBM structural abnormality is related to proteinuria in AS but the epithelial response is uniform even though the GBM ultrastructural lesions are not.

A Study on Improvement of Run-Time in KS-SIGNAL, Traffic Signal Optimization Model for Coordinated Arterials (간선도로 연동화 신호최적화 모형 KS-SIGNAL의 수행속도 향상을 위한 연구)

  • KS-SIGNAL, a traffic signal optimization model for coordinated arterials, is an optimization model using the mixed integer linear Programming that minimizes total delay on arterials by optimizing left-turn Phase sequences. However, the Previous version of KS-SIGNAL had a difficulty in reducing computation speed because the related variables and constraints multiply rapidly in accordance with the increase of intersections. This study is designed to propose a new model, improving optimizing computation speed in KS-SIGMAl, and evaluate it. This Paper Puts forth three kinds of methodological approaches as to achieve the above goals. At the first step to reduce run-time in the proposed model objective function and a few constraints are Partially modified, which replaces variable in related to queue clearance time with constant, by using thru-movements at upstream intersection and the length of red time at downstream intersection. The result shows that the run-time can be reduced up to 70% at this step. The second step to load the library in LINDO for Windows, in order to solve mixed integer linear programming. The result suggests that run-time can be reduced obviously up to 99% of the first step result. The third step is to add constraints in related to left-turn Phase sequences. The proposed methodological approach, not optimizing all kinds of left-turn sequences, is more reasonable than that of previous model , only in the view of reducing run-tim. In conclusion, run-time could be reduced up to 30% compared with the second results. This Proposed model was tested by several optimization scenarios. The results in this study reveals that signal timing plan in KS-SIGNAL is closer to PASSER-II (bandwidth maximizing model) rather than to TRANSYT-7F(delay minimizing model).

Development of Design Technology of Korean Style Air-Inflated Double-Layer Plastic Greenhouse (한국형 공기주입 이중피복 플라스틱온실의 설계기술 개발)

  • The construction of experimental greenhouses, operating test, and analysis on variation of different environment factors were conducted to provide fundamental data for design of Korean style air-inflated double-layer plastic greenhouse. The development of technology of attaching plastic to the structure and fasteners to be able to keep airtight was required in order to maintain proper static pressure in air space of double layer coverings. The insulation effect of air inflated greenhouse was better than conventional type. The temperature of arch type roof was greater about $2^{\circ}C$ than peach type roof in air inflated greenhouse. It was recommended that the plastic should be attached at the edges without clearance length in order to ease installation and raise airtightness of double layer coverings. The transmittance of arch type roof was greater than peach type in air inflated one span greenhouse. The transmittance of air inflated greenhouse was greater than conventional type due to frame ratio and distance between double layers in three span greenhouse. The condensation occurred on conventional type greenhouse was more than air inflated type. It was required to examine for a long time in order to analyze it quantitatively.

Human Engineering Approach to the Standardization of Shelving, Chairs, Tables and Card Cabinets for College and University Libraries In Korea (한국 대학도서관 가구의 표준화에 관한 인간공학적 연구 -서가${\cdot}$의자${\cdot}$책상${\cdot}$ 목록함을 중심으로-)

  • This is to establish a model of the standardization of shelving, chairs, tables and card cabinets for college and university libraries in Korea. The size of furniture was measured on the base of the analysis of the human factors, such as the standard size of human bodies of the college students in Korea, the scope of work area, the moving degree of muscles, the limit of the visual field, etc. The results of this study are as follows: 1. It is desirable that the standard shelf length should be 800mm. and the maximum . shelving height should not exceed 1,803mm. And it is desirable that the bottom shelf has a ground clearance of about $210\~390mm$. 2. It is advisable that the sloped shelving has the slope from about 1,000mm, or 930mm, and the gradient should be $19^{\circ}$ from the above mentioned sloping position and the bottom of each shelf. And it is desirable that the slope height of each shelf should be 77mm. 3. It is advisable that the seat area for users should be $410\~420\times420mm$, and the seat height should be $390\~0400mm$. 4. It is desirable that the table size per user should exceed $490\times880\~890mm$, and the table height should be $680\~690mm$. 5. It is advisable that each tray of the card cabinet should hold about 740 cards, and the depth should exceed 430mm. And it is desirable that the maximum height of card cabinets should be as follows: 60du(drawer units)-$1,400\~1,460mm$, 30du-1, 300mm, 15du-1,100mm. In addition, it is advisable that the 30du cabinet should accomodate 5 trays vertically and 6 trays horizontally for avoiding the worst working position rather than 6 trays vertically and 5 trays horizontally. 6. It is desirable that the height of sliding reference shelves in card cabinets, or consultation tables should be 900mm. But in the case of the sliding shelves, it is desirable to be as follows: 15du-900mm when the card cabinet height is more than 1,100, mm, but unnecessary when less than 1,100mm high, 30du-1,000mm, or 1,100mm in the case of $5\times6du$, but 900mm in the case of $6\times5du$, $60du-900\~950mm$ when the card cabinet height is $1,400\~1,460mm$.

Genetic Variation in the Immunoregulatory Gene of Adenovirus Type 3 (3형 아데노바이러스의 면역조절 유전자 다양성)

  • Purpose : Various proteins encoded in the early region 3 (E3) of adenoviruses protect cells from being killed by cytotoxic T cells and death-inducing cytokines. We sought to find out whether the genetic heterogeneity of the E3 gene might contribute to the molecular diversity of adenoviruses. Methods : Sequences in the E3 region were analyzed for 14 adenovirus type 3 (Ad3) strains that were isolated from children with lower respiratory tract infections in the Seoul National University Children's Hospital during the period 1991-2000. Full-length adenoviral DNA was purified from the infected A549 cell lysates using a modified Hirt procedure. Results : There was 98% homology between 14 Korean Ad3 strains with a reference strain (M15952). Homology within the Korean Ad3 strains was 98.7%. Variation was found in the region of transcripts 20.1 kDa, 20.6 kDa, truncated 7.7 kDa, 10.3 kDa, 14.9 kDa, and 15.3 kDa. In particular, all 14 Korean strains showed a missense single point mutation at the start codon of the truncated 7.7 kDa. In addition, a deletion was found in the truncated 7.7 kDa region by 58 base pairs in 10 strains and 94 base pairs in 4 strains. Variations in amino acids were observed in the receptor internalization and degradation complex (10.3 kDa/14.9 kDa) which stimulates the clearance from the cell surface and subsequent degradation of the receptors for the Fas ligand and TRAIL, while no variations were observed in another immunoregulatory transcript, 19 kDa. Conclusion : Sequence analysis of the immunoregulatory region of adenovirus E3 shows that genetic heterogeneities are related to genome type patterns.

Simulation and Experimental Investigation of Reverse Drawing Process for Manufacture of High-Capacity Aluminum Liner (대용량 알루미늄 라이너의 성형을 위한 역 드로잉 공정 해석 및 실험)

  • In this work, finite element investigations were carried out to optimize reverse drawing process design for manufacture of high-capacity aluminum liner used in fuel cell vehicle. The tensile tests with aluminum alloy Al6061 annealed at $350^{\circ}C$ were carried out to obtain the flow stresses. In order to estimate more accurate flow stresses after necking, the flow stresses were estimated from the comparison of load vs. displacement curves which were obtained from experimental and simulation results of tensile tests. In case of finite element analyses of reverse drawing processes, it was focused on the effects of process designs such as punch and die designs, blank holding force, drawing ratio and the clearance between the punch and blank holder on the generation of wrinkle and fracture of the blank and partially heated punch. However, it was revealed that experimental results still show the fracture at the end of 2nd drawn cup, although partially heated punch is used. Nevertheless, the drawn cup can be used because the sufficient length of the drawn cup for the next flow forming process and spinning process was obtained.
