  • Let I(f) be the integral defined by : $I(f) = \int\limits_{a}^{b} f(x)w(x)dx$ with f a given function, w a nonclassical weight function and [a, b] an interval of IR (of finite or infinite length). We propose to calculate the approximate value of I(f) by using a new scheme for deriving a non-linear system, satisfied by the three-term recurrence coefficients of semi-classical orthogonal polynomials. Finally we studies the Stability and complexity of this scheme.

  • From a notion of d-pseudo-orthogonality for a sequence of poly-nomials ($d\;\in\;{2,3,\cdots}$), this paper introduces three different characterizations of natural exponential families (NEF's) with polynomial variance functions of exact degree 2d-1. These results provide extended versions of the Meixner (1934), Shanbhag (1972, 1979) and Feinsilver (1986) characterization results of quadratic NEF's based on classical orthogonal polynomials. Some news sets of polynomials with (2d-1)-term recurrence relation are then pointed out and we completely illustrate the cases associated to the families of positive stable distributions.

  • Here, in this paper, we aim at establishing some new unified integral and differential formulas associated with the $\bar{H}$-function. Each of these formula involves a product of the $\bar{H}$-function and Srivastava polynomials with essentially arbitrary coefficients and the results are obtained in terms of two variables $\bar{H}$-function. By assigning suitably special values to these coefficients, the main results can be reduced to the corresponding integral formulas involving the classical orthogonal polynomials including, for example, Hermite, Jacobi, Legendre and Laguerre polynomials. Furthermore, the $\bar{H}$-function occurring in each of main results can be reduced, under various special cases.

  • Let $\mu$(x) be an increasing function on the real line with finite moments of all oeders. We show that for any linear operator T on the space of polynomials and any interger n $\geq$ 0, there is a constant $\gamma n(T)\geq0$, independent of p(x), such that $\parallel T_p\parallel\leq\gamma n(T)\parallel P\parallel$, for any polynomial p(x) of degree $\leq$ n, where We find a formular for the best possible value $\Gamma_n(T)\;of\;\gamma n(T)$ and estimations for $\Gamma_n(T)$. We also give several illustrating examples when T is a differentiation or a difference operator and $d\mu$(x) is an orthogonalizing measure for classical or discrete orthogonal polynomials.

  • This paper presents a theoretical analysis for the free vibration of rectangular tanks partially filled with an ideal liquid. Wet dynamic displacements of the tanks are approximated by combining the orthogonal polynomials satisfying the boundary conditions, since the rectangular tanks are composed of four rectangular plates. The classical boundary conditions of the tanks at the top and bottom ends are considered, such as clamped, simply supported, and clamped-free boundary conditions. As the facing rectangular plates are assumed to be geometrically and structurally identical, the vibration modes of the facing plates of the tanks can be divided into two categories: symmetric and antisymmetric modes with respect to the planes passing through the center of the tanks and perpendicular to the free liquid surface. The liquid displacement potentials satisfying the Laplace equation and liquid boundary conditions are derived, and the wet dynamic modal functions of a quarter of the tanks can be expanded by the finite Fourier transform for compatibility requirements along the contacting surfaces between the tanks and liquid. An eigenvalue problem is derived using the Rayleigh-Ritz method. Consequently, the wet natural frequencies of the rectangular tanks can be extracted. The proposed analytical method is verified by observing an excellent agreement with three-dimensional finite element analysis results. The effects of the liquid level and boundary condition at the top and bottom edges are investigated.

  • This paper presents analytical approximate solutions for the initial post-buckling deformation of the pipes in oil and gas wells. The governing differential equation with sinusoidal nonlinearity can be reduced to form a third-order-polynomial nonlinear equation, by coupling of the well-known Maclaurin series expansion and orthogonal Chebyshev polynomials. Analytical approximations to the resulting boundary condition problem are established by combining the Newton's method with the method of harmonic balance. The linearization is performed prior to proceeding with harmonic balancing thus resulting in a set of linear algebraic equations instead of one of non-linear algebraic equations, unlike the classical method of harmonic balance. We are hence able to establish analytical approximate solutions. The approximate formulae for load along axis, and periodic solution are established for derivative of the helix angle at the end of the pipe. Illustrative examples are selected and compared to "reference" solution obtained by the shooting method to substantiate the accuracy and correctness of the approximate analytical approach.
