  • The purpose of this study was to conduct research on consumers who seek to portray an image through their living atmosphere and clothing, and to survey the home fashion design preference of Korean women, aged in their 20s to 40s. We distributed questionnaires to 600 women. The reliable questionnaires were used for a statistical analysis. Data analyses were conducted with SPSS program on ANOVA and Pearson correlations. We obtained the following results: 1. Women who are living in larger housing sought 'elegant', 'sophisticated', and 'gorgeous' images. There was a high correlation between the image sought through the surrounding environment and the image sought with clothing. Those who wanted an image of Korean traditional and classic living environment, also sought the same image in their clothing. 2. There was a significant difference in the preference of home fashion products among women seeking specific images in their living environment. In the preference of children's bed sheets and comforters, there was a significant difference in Korean traditional image. In addition, there was a significant difference in the preferred types of curtains in elegant, sophisticated, gorgeous and classic seeking images of environment. These results may be useful for the home fashion stylist or home fashion marketer.

  • Globalization describes a process by which regional cultures have become integrated through a global network of communication. In order to communicate among different cultural groups, standardization of terminology is one of the most important steps among its processes. In the field of oriental medicine, there have been continuous efforts to communicate through various methods. Translation of oriental medical classics is one of the significant approaches in terms of transmitting medical theories and clinical experiences of thousands of years to the people of different cultural backgrounds. However, previous translation studies have had difficulties in delivering its underlying principles and assumptions due to lack of standardization of terminology. "WHO International Standard Terminologies on Traditional Medicine in the Western Pacific Region(WHO-IST)" is the outcome of developing standard terminologies on oriental medicine based on mutual agreement of researchers of Korea, China and Japan. As a movement to find more efficient methodology for communication between heterogeneous communities, this study aims to translate parts of "Classic of difficult issues(難經)" into English adopting "WHO-IST" hoping to set a model of translation study.

  • The effect of ultrasonic radiation is reported for silica-poly(ethylene glycol) system prepared without the solvent using sol-gel processing by varying various parameters such as ultrasonic irradiation time, PEG content and HCl/TEOS molar ratio. The property of sonogel is compared with classic gel which has been prepared with ethanol as a solvent by traditional sol-gel processing. SEM, BET, DTA-TGA, density and Vickers hardness measurements are carried out for analyzing the samples. The gelation time is found strongly dependent on radiation time, PEG content and pH value, and has been discussed on the basis of existing theories. The $SiO_2-10$ & 20 wt% PEG sonogel exhibited superior optical, physical and gel properties as compared to the classic gel, hence, found suitable for device applications. The ultrasonic radiation increased the density and surface area, and also reduced the pore size which is well supported by the shift in the peak of DTA curve. The DTA thermogram was found similar to that of pure silica gel.

  • The globalization of oriental medicine can be interpreted as the work of making its own contents able to be communicated among global heterogeneous cultural groups. In the field of oriental medical classics the work is to translate its classics into English and introduce them to researchers of oriental medicine in the world, which is essential in order to stimulate global academic communication in that the classics are the prototype as well as the source of oriental medical knowledge for thousands of years. Previous English translation studies have had limits in that terms used were not based on mutual agreement. Now "WHO International Standard Terminologies on Traditional Medicine in the Western Pacific Region(WHO-IST)" is the outcome of developing standard terminologies on oriental medicine contributed by researchers of Korea, China and Japan. The study aims to translate parts of "Classic of difficult issues(難經)" into English adopting "WHO-IST" hoping to set a model of translation study which can be communicated universally.

  • The purposes of the study were to analyze the changes in formal attires and decorative features of middle age Korean women during the last half of 20th century and to find out any significant differences in formal attires according to periods. The study was a documentary research, and data were collected from 344 family wedding photographs by convenient sampling. The statistics used were content analysis, frequency and a time series analysis, and the results were as follows : 1. Four schematic clusters of formal attires were categorized according to skirt(chima) length and width, jacket(jogori) length, motifs and decorative features; simple classic, decorative classic, fashionable, and extravagant fashionable. Simple classic attires were popular until 1960s, the decorative classics were appeared from late 1960s to 1970s, fashionable attires were introduced from the late 1970s and the attires became more luxurious and extravagant until 2000. 2. Color symbolism in couples mothers'attires according to the couples gender - pink or red for the bride's mother and blue or green for groom's mother - was introduced from the late 1970s, and reached the maximum level by the early 1980s but slowly disappeared after the late 1980s. 3. The complete fashion cycle did not exist in the formal attires'change, however, since the Period of data were ranged from 1943 to 2000, the 57 years period may not long enough to measure a complete fashion cycle.

  • Among a number of factors related to the effect of acupuncture and moxibustion treatment, prescriptions do important work. Traditional eastern doctors also placed emphasis on prescriptions of acupuncture and moxibustion, and a lot of experiences have been accumulated. The method forms prescriptions of Sa-am acupuncture therapy pivots on five transport points. Studies show prescriptions are made on the basis of the theory of 'Wang Xiang Xiu Qiu Si'(旺相休囚死) used engendering and restraining of five phases, and it is considered the principle of transformed prescriptions through this theory. Because there is still no study analyzing prescriptions of Sa-am acupuncture by existing principles, we report opinion about Combination principle of points in them. 1. We studied history of acupuncture and moxibustion, development and kinds of points' Combination principle. 2. Around Combination principles of points in Classic of Difficult Issues and Internal Classic, we analyzed and compared between Combination principles of points in Sa-am acupuncture therapy and them in Korea and overall acupuncture methods. 1. There were many Combination principles of acupunture point combination in Classic of Difficult Issues, Internal Classic and Korea acupuncture methods. For example, Point combination of the same meridian, Point combination of the different meridian, Exterior-Interior point combination, Point combination of the same name meridian, Point combination of the multiple meridian, Point combination of Adjacent and Distant points, Left-Right point combination, Anterior-Posterior point combination, Superior-Inferior point combination, Brook point and Stream point combination, Triple energizer point combination, Eight meeting point combination, Five transport point combination, Source-Connecting point combination, Alram point and Transport point combination, Mother-Sun meridian combination, Empirical point combination, Important point combination, Point combination according to syndrome. 2. Existing Combination principles of points in prescriptions of Sa-am acupuncture therapy included every rule. 3. They could be evidences that prescriptions of Sa-am acupuncture therapy are forms inheriting and developing acupuncture and moxibustion treatments.

  • Altmetrics or alternative metrics gauge the digital attention received by scientific outputs from the web, which is treated as a supplement to traditional citation metrics. In this study, we performed a meta-analysis of correlations between classic citation metrics and altmetrics indicators of library and information science (LIS) articles. We followed the systematic review method to select the articles and Erasmus Rotterdam Institute of Management Guidelines for reporting the meta-analysis results. To select the articles, keyword searches were conducted on Google Scholar, Scopus, and ResearchGate during the last week of November 2021. Eleven articles were assessed, and eight were subjected to meta-analysis following the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings reported negative and positive associations between citations and altmetric indicators among the selected articles, with varying correlation coefficient values from -.189 to 0.93. The result of the meta-analysis reported a pooled correlation coefficient of 0.47 (95% confidence interval, 0.339 to 0.586) for the articles. Sub-group analysis based on the citation source revealed that articles indexed on the Web of Science showed a higher pooled correlation coefficient (0.41) than articles indexed in Google Scholar (0.30). The study concluded that the pooled correlation between citation metrics with altmetric indicators was positive, ranging from low to moderate. The result of the study gives more insights to the scientometrics community to propose and use altmetric indicators as a proxy for traditional citation indicators for quick research impact evaluation of LIS articles.
