  • This study searched secondary school students' epistemological views and ontological views about nature and the root causes of such their views. The subjects were 156 secondary school students and data were gathered by the questionnaire developed based on preceding researches. As a result, many secondary school students had epistemological views of unknowable nature. There were various root causes of their epistemological views such as regularity and harmony of nature, predictable and circular natural phenomenon, causation, the relation between human and nature. On the other hand, a lot of secondary school students had ontological view of supernatural nature. Their religious beliefs were very powerful influence their supernatural ontological views. The nature is the object of science and the physical world. Because those views supply science educators basic backgrounds how leaners understand science class, secondary school students' epistemological views and ontological views are precious information. From now on, it is necessary to study relations between students' epistemological views and ontological views and their science class processes.

  • The aims of this study are to develop and apply a Nature Game program for the ecological experience learning in Jeju Gotjawal forest and analyze the environmental sensitivity change of the students. The results obtained in 4th graders of A elementary school of Seogwipo-city are as follows: It was found that attention, susceptibility and practice will of environment protection for forest environment of the experimental class were significantly higher than those of the comparison class. And it was found that interest and curiosity into forest environment were also elevated in the results of the qualitative evaluation, suggesting that we could get the effect of developed Nature Game program on ecological experience learning. If various ecological experience learning programs considering the regional-specific characteristics are developed to cause students' interest and curiosity, students would come to participate in the protection activity of environment aggressively a little more.

  • Because of their international importance, 'the Welfare Reforms' of the Thatcher government as well as Thatcherism were studied so much, and analysed so deeply. However, the existing studies mainly focused the institutional changes of the welfare state themselves and cynically criticized the decline of it. And, there is no study explained the Thatcher's reform as the changed balance of the British class strength. This means that the nature of the Thatcher's welfare reform is not scientifically clarified yet. So, I tried to examine this one again. For the purpose, I reviewed the nature of Thatcherism, described the changed welfare state, and analysed the result of the polling, the power dynamics of the Labour Party, the changed attitude of the Labour Party and the working class to the welfare state and Keynesianism, and the political attack of the Thatcher government on the working class and their response to it.

  • The research focused on the return of class analysis of the media soctor. It is told that class is a determining factor of media industry. This article is divided in to four sections that represent class analysis of media. In this study, I claimed that class analysis is necessary of understanding the nature of media industrial capital and its nature. With their domination of the media, big corporations seek to control political power and information. This article has demonstrated that the media power of corporations should be curved.

  • Productivity of the Giant Magellan Telescope is estimated based on the annual number of papers produced by the currently operating large telescopes such as the telescope at the ESO La Silla observatory, CFHT, AAT, the Magellan telescopes, ESO VLT, Japanese Subaru, the Gemini telescopes, and the Keck telescopes. We find that the amount of papers produced by a large telescope is roughly proportional to the diameter of its primary mirror. With this fact, we estimate the SCI-paper productivity of the Giant Magellan Telescope by extrapolating the productivity of the above-mentioned large telescopes. Moreover, according to the paper written in 2001 by Benn and Sanchez, the amount of highly-cited papers produced by a large telescope is roughly proportional to the light-gathering power of the telescope or the square of the diameter. Hence, we survey the productivity of Nature-class papers of the large telescopes and extrapolate the relationship to estimate the productivity of the Nature-class papers by using the Giant Magellan telescope of a filled aperture 21.4 meters in diameter. We expect that Korean astronomers will be able to produce annually 60 SCI-class papers and 20 Nature-class papers with high scientific impact by using the telescope-time corresponding to the 10% share of the Giant Magellan Telescope.

  • purpose of this work was to study the applied effects of out-of-class Chemical Experience Learning (CEL) Programs on scientific process skills and science-related attitude for middle school students. The out-of-class CEL Programs which were developed to make the funny out-of-class chemistry and the exciting science class', included the nature-friendly chemical experiments suitable for natural environment and composed of real life-centered experiences. The out-of-class CEL programs were applied to natural environment through all-day improvement activity. The science club students in D middle school in Busan were selected as the objects of the study consisting of one experiment group and one control group. The out-of-class CEL programs were applied to the experiment group and traditional class method was applied to the control group. The change of scientific process skills and science-related attitudes between two groups were compared and analyzed. And students reaction on the out-of-class CEL programs was investigated. As a result, out-of-class nature-friendly chemical experiments were improved scientific process skills and science-related attitudes of middle school students. Also, more than 70% of students in the experimental group gave positive feedbacks to the out-of-class CEL programs and increased attention, interest, and degree of self-participation in science.

  • A proposed incremental model for the solution of a general class of convex programming problems is introduced. The model is an extension of that developed by Mahmoud et al. (1993) which is limited to linear constraints having nonzero free coefficients. In the present model, this limitation is relaxed, and allowed to be zero. The model is extended to accommodate those constraints of zero free coefficients. The proposed model is applied to solve the elasto-static contact problems as a class of variation inequality problems of convex nature. A set of different physical nature verification examples is solved and discussed in this paper.

  • This study described a teacher's dilemma case caused by students' questions and an endeavor to resolve the dilemma. The teacher was faced with the dilemma of whether or not to give answers to the students' questions: Students' meaningful questions should be dealt in class. However, immediate answers for the questions would be difficult for the students to understand. In addition, offering text-based immediate answers would be criticized by a perspective on meaningful science education. Not only ignoring questions but also offering text-based answers could be the reason for a rupture between student and nature. And this made the teacher's dilemma. In this study, We try to address this dilemma and discuss why students should learn text with experience of nature in science class.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the Nature-friendly program on children's Emotional Intelligence. The subjects of this study were two groups( experimental group and non experimental group). Each group consists of 30(8 years olds) elementary school children in Seoul. Examination of Emotional Intelligence was applied to determine the homogeneity of 2 groups. Experimental group received 10 Nature-friendly programs for 15 weeks from July 2004 to October 2004. After Nature-friendly programs ended, post examination of Emotional Intelligence was applied. The result of this research was as follow. When Nature-friendly programs was applied, there were significant differences in the degree of emotional intelligence in the experimental group. Children who were involved in nature-friendly program increased in emotional intelligence. Nature-friendly program was effective in the sub-factors of self-awareness, self-regulation, other-awareness, other-regulation of emotional intelligence.

  • Contemporary Suburban House is a kind of 'Urban House in nature' that urban middle class peoples elect voluntarily to raise life quality and make their own identity. Therefore, 'The Relationship with Nature' is an essential item in the design of Suburban House. But in the site plan of Suburban House, 'The Nature' as outdoor space is only the rest of the indoor space. The outdoor space is hold in common visually but not actually. 'The Nature' is not a labour ground as the case in rural society but a background of village. The plan of Suburban House is based on the urban apartment plan. So in plan, 'The Nature' is also an object for contemplation as the case in urban house. The outline of the plan as a border line between indoor space and outdoor space is controlled uniformally and 'The Nature' is linked only visually in the direction the resident wants to see.
