A Study on the Appropriate School Placement in Urban Development Area - Centerde on Sejong Special Self-Governing City - (도시개발지역 학교 적정배치 방안 연구 - 세종특별자치시를 중심으로 -)

  • This study explores school location, school environment, educational conditions, and appropriate scale of schools in the context of Sejong City's development area and identifies effective school establishment plans based on the analysis of the needs of the educational community. The research questions for this study include, first, what is the change trend in the number of students as a result of the opening of schools in the development area of Sejong City to the present, and what differences are there between Sejong and other new cities? Second, what challenges arise in school location due to the occurrence of oversized schools and undergraduate institutions? Third, what challenges arise in school location that would limit the ability to create a safe school environment? Fourth, what aspects need to be improved in school location decisions to promote proper placement? A survey was conducted among parents and faculty members to collect data. The findings revealed that first, when establishing a school, identifying an appropriate location for the school was the top priority of the respondents. The second was the proximity of the school to dense housing, with a parent drop zone next to the school site. Third, to address the issue of lack of playgrounds and special class and care classes, respondents called for various measures such as securing school sites within a certain area. Finally, integrated operation schools and school facilities are required in preparation for decreasing school-age populations due to low birth rates.

Analysis of the Timber Harvesting Potential of the Garisan Leading Forest Management Complex in Hongcheon (홍천 가리산 선도산림경영단지의 목재생산 잠재량 분석)

  • The aim of this study was to analyze the potential for timber harvesting in the Hongchoen Garisan Leading Forest Management Complex in the national forests, and to suggest an optimal target yield for sustainable timber harvesting. The potential for timber harvesting was assessed by analyzing the area available for timber harvesting using GIS spatial analysis, but excluding areas with a slope of more than 40° (topographical constraints), areas within 30 m on both sides of streams (environmental constraints), and areas more than 300 m away from forest roads (technical constraints). The analysis identified 3,298 ha (49%) of the total complex area of 6,679 ha as available for timber harvesting, yielding a potential harvesting volume of 608,613 m3. In the case of coniferous plantations, the potential harvesting volume was 409,721 m3, which was a very high level that accounted for 67.3% of the total. We also conducted an optimization analysis to minimize the differences in area between age classes, while maintaining sustainable timber harvesting for the next 50 years. An annual average of 41.9 ha (7,988 m3) was determined to be the optimal timber yield, and in this case, it was possible to convert the age class structure to a more stable structure after 50 years.

Characteristics of the Vegetation Structure of an Abies nephrolepis Forest in the Presence of the Tripterygium regelii Group (미역줄나무 출현에 따른 분비나무림의 식생구조 특성)

  • In this study, the sustainability of Abies nephrolepis in the presence of Tripterygium regelii was analyzed. To accomplish this, a field survey of140 stands was conducted. Based on the presence or absence of T. regelii, as well as the layer in which it was present (where appropriate), the type of T. regelii presence wasclassified as follows: TP type, indicating the presence of T. regelii in the tree and sub-tree layers; SP type, indicating its presence in the shrub layer; and A type, indicatingits absence from all layers. The indicator species analysis revealed T. regelii to be an indicator species of the TP type and SP type. The MRPP test was used to examine the differences among the types. Moreover, the seedling and DBH class analysis indicated there to be a difficulty in terms of the status competition, as the number of young trees generated by A. nephrolepis was the lowest in the TP type. The findings of this study enhanced our understanding of the vegetation structure of A. nephrolepis, thereby contributing to efforts concerningits conservation and management.

Analyses of Volition Strategy by Achievement Level of the Students with High Learning Motivation (학습동기가 높은 학생들의 학업성취도 수준에 따른 의지조정 전략 분석)

  • The purposes of this study were to analyze the frequency and type of volition strategy, according to achievement level, employed by students with high learning motivation, and to identify the role volition strategy plays in keeping students motived to learn science. To accomplish these aims, two groups of students(each containing three members) were selected. Students in the two groups both had the same cognitive level and high learning motivation. However, one group's science achievement was high, and the other was low. Through interviews and class observations, volition strategies students in the two groups used when they encountered hindrances in science learning were compared. Results of the study revealed a relationship between achievement level and volition strategy. Students showed differences in the frequency and types of volition strategies used according to science achievement. It was found that students with higher achievement levels used volition strategies more often to overcome hindrances in science learning than those with lower achievement levels. Furthermore, students with higher achievement levels generally used internal mind control strategies while those with lower achievement levels used environmental control strategies. Lastly, findings found that the types of volition strategies used by lower achievement level students were very limited.

Beginning Science Teachers' Teaching Practice in Relation to Arranging Science Content and Sense-Making Strategy (초임 중등 과학 교사의 수업에서 과학 내용의 전개 방식과 내용 이해 전략)

  • The purposes of the study are to portray Korean beginning secondary science teachers' ways of arranging science content, sense-making strategy, and factors contributing to the tensions between teachers' intentions and actual practice. Six beginning secondary science teachers participated in this study. Science classes taught by the participating teachers were observed and videotaped. Semi-structured interviews were conducted for science teachers participated in this study after science classes were observed. Instructional materials were also collected for each science class. Video- and audio-taped data were transcribed and analyzed using conceptual framework developed by the Michigan State University. The findings of this study produce the following conclusions: (1) beginning teachers' science classes are arranged in ways compatible to traditional school science, (2) frequently used sense-making strategies are procedural display and narrative reasoning, (3) tensions between beginning teachers' intentions and practice arise from two factors such as assessment and differences in educational views with peer teachers, and (4) learning experiences, lack of perceptions and preparations on reform science teaching, and the absence of systematic program for professional development programs for beginning science teachers are major obstacles to reform science teaching for beginning teachers.

Student-Centeredness of the Modality of Science Teaching Based on Discourse language Code (담화 언어 코드로 본 과학 수업 양태의 학생 중심성)

  • Since there are differences in the content, structure and functions of interpersonal communication during the practice of school science classes, it needs to articulate the difference of the modality of pedagogical practice in order to understand science teaching in detail. These characteristics of science teaching can be investigated by further insightful analysis on language in the science classroom. In this study, classroom discourse language codes using Bernstein's code theory were analyzed in the case of a middle school science class on the unit of minerals. The discourse language code was identified by the value of classification, which revealed power relations to the contexts of discourse and participants of discourse. It was also identified by the value of framing, which showed hierarchical relation between teacher and students as discourse subjects, and discursive control on the initiative of discourse. The results addressed that six types of discourse language codes were constructed and that those language codes reflected diverse modalities of science teaching from student-centered instruction to teacher-centered instruction in relation to classroom discourse. The modality of science teaching according to the transition tendencies of discourse language code showed dynamic variations of 'controlled student-centeredness inducing teaching' - 'positional student-centeredness permissive teaching' - 'controlled students' participation permissive teaching' - 'controlled student-centeredness facilitative teaching' - 'student-centeredness enhancing teaching'. In addition, results released that discursively and hierarchically weak control of discourse is necessary for enhancing student-centeredness of science teaching. Moreover, teaching practice enhancing student-centeredness can be accomplished by the harmony of a teacher's perception of discourse language code and his/her orientation to constructivist teaching and student-centered teaching.

The Instructional Effect of Varying Visuals in Drawing and Writing Applied to Learning with Multiple Representations (다중 표상 학습에 적용한 그리기와 쓰기에서 시각정 정보의 형태에 따른 교수 효과)

  • This study investigated the effects of varying visuals in drawing and writing as methods to assist students in connecting and integrating multiple external representations provided in learning the particulate nature of matter. Seventh graders (N=233) at a coed middle school were assigned to control, static drawing (SO), dynamic drawing (DD), static writing (SW), and dynamic writing (DW) groups. The students were taught about "Boyle's Law" and "Charles's Law" for two class periods. Two-way ANCOVA results revealed that the scores of a conception test for the two drawing (SD, DD) groups and the two writing (SW, DW) groups were significantly higher than those for the control group. Within the writing groups, students of lower spatial visualization ability in the DW group scored significantly higher than those in the SW group. However, no significant differences were found in the scores of the conception test for the two drawing (SD, DD) groups regardless of students' visualization ability. Researchers also found that most students in both DD and DW groups had respectively positive perceptions of dynamic visuals in drawing or writing.

Analyzing the Co-occurrence of Endangered Brackish-Water Snails with Other Species in Ecosystems Using Association Rule Learning and Clustering Analysis (연관 규칙 학습과 군집분석을 활용한 멸종위기 기수갈고둥과 생태계 내 종 간 연관성 분석)

  • This study utilizes association rule learning and clustering analysis to explore the co-occurrence and relationships within ecosystems, focusing on the endangered brackish-water snail Clithon retropictum, classified as Class II endangered wildlife in Korea. The goal is to analyze co-occurrence patterns between brackish-water snails and other species to better understand their roles within the ecosystem. By examining co-occurrence patterns and relationships among species in large datasets, association rule learning aids in identifying significant relationships. Meanwhile, K-means and hierarchical clustering analyses are employed to assess ecological similarities and differences among species, facilitating their classification based on ecological characteristics. The findings reveal a significant level of relationship and co-occurrence between brackish-water snails and other species. This research underscores the importance of understanding these relationships for the conservation of endangered species like C. retropictum and for developing effective ecosystem management strategies. By emphasizing the role of a data-driven approach, this study contributes to advancing our knowledge on biodiversity conservation and ecosystem health, proposing new directions for future research in ecosystem management and conservation strategies.

Latent Profile Analysis of Anxiety and Anger Symptoms among Korean Adults during the COVID-19 Pandemic (잠재프로파일분석(LPA)을 통한 코로나 대유행 시기 성인의 불안 및 분노 증상 유형 분석)

  • This study aimed to identify latent profiles of anxiety and anger symptoms experienced by Korean adults during the COVID-19 pandemic and factors that influence group classification. To this end, a latent profile analysis(LPA) was conducted on 1,434 Korean adults from February to March 2021 after the pandemic was announced. First, as a result of confirming the suitability of the latent model, a 5-class-model was found to have the best model fit with 'low anxiety/high anger group(Group 1)', 'low anxiety/low anger group(Group 2)', 'middle anxiety/middle anger group(Group 3)', 'middle anxiety/high anger group(Group 4)', 'high anxiety/high anger group(Group 5)'. Second, gender, economic status, emotion-focused coping, and dysfunctional coping were significant predictors of group classification. Third, there were differences between latent groups in PTSD symptom and suicidal ideation. Finally, discussions and implications of the study were discussed.

A Research on the Women's Costume on the Bigdata of Movie Napoleon

  • The public can access movies more easily than any other cultural genre. The film's costumes convey the social, political, and cultural climate of that time period. Additionally, it subtly conveys the message of the movie, including the intentions of the director and the characters. Filmmakers can now use fact-based materials to plan their films, and audiences can now watch costume in movies with objective standards, particularly in period dramas, thanks to the advancements in over-the-top (OTT) services. The 77th British Academy costume Award went to the movie Napoleon because of how much emphasis it placed on the outfit. Ninety-five percent of the costume was made by experts in military uniforms and costumery. In contrast to the previous aristocratic and exaggerated Rococo costume, Napoleonic clothing had a natural and common-class character. A natural-shaped Chemise dress composed of light, reflective material first appeared in the Directoire era, just after the French Revolution. Chemise dresses made of a variety of materials gained popularity during the Empire era. With Napoleon taking the throne and Josephine becoming the empress, the vibrant court culture resurfaced during the Empire era. The silk was embellished with gold thread and embroidery, train dangling forms, and different types of sleeves appeared in Empire styles. They wore Pellisse and shawls under the coat. The hair style had long, ancient hair and was adorned with fillets. They also wore straw hats, bonnets, and caps. Long gloves and parasols were also popular accessories, as were pearl or colored jewelry necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings. During the Empire era, tiaras were fashionable. Shoes were either low-heeled pumps or sandals. The movie uses Chemise and Empire costumes, which are versatile enough to be used in a range of settings and eras. When it came to details, the type of sleeve was employed without regard to time, such as when using those from an earlier or later period. Since jewelry was worn more often than not in that era, practically every character has earrings on their necklaces. Nearly exact replicas of the coronation costume can be found in paintings by Jacques-Louis David. The red trains, Josephine's Empire dress, the crown, the Tiara, and the costumes of every character in attendance were all clearly identifiable in terms of form and color. To further aid viewers in understanding and enhancing the film's overall coherence, a scene featuring David drawing the coronation was added. Overall, there were differences in that the historical costumes were accurately recreated, the materials and details were utilized without restriction, and some of the costumes were designed with modern materials or accessories that were used more than the historical costumes. This section appears to have been written to highlight the beauty of the characters' personalities or settings. There is a limitation to this study in that it only looked at aristocratic clothing, which includes Josephine's. We will concentrate on male clothing in future research.
