Three hundred and twenty four one day old mixed sex broiler chicks were assigned at random into 9 treatment groups. The experimental design was a 3${\times}$3 factorial arrangement. During the starter period (week 1-3), chicks were fed ad libitum. A cornsoybean meal based diet contained 23% crude protein, 3,200 kcal/kg metabolizable energy (NRC, 1994), and supplemented with organic or inorganic forms of chromium. Two organic chromium products, chromium yeast (Cr-Yeast from Alltech Biotechnology Corporation Limited) and chromium picolinate (Cr-Pic) were supplemented at the rate of 200, 400 and 800 ppb. One inorganic product, chromium chloride, was supplemented at the rate of 200, 400 and 800 ppb. During the finishing period (week 4-7), the corn-soybean meal based diet contained 20% crude protein, 3,200 kcal/kg metabolizable energy (NRC, 1994), and the same levels of chromium as in the starter period were added. No significant difference was observed among treatment groups in average daily gain, feed intake, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio and mortality. The carcass percentage of broilers receiving 200 and 400 ppb organic chromium (Cr-Yeast or Cr-Pic) was significantly increased (p<0.01). In addition, the supplementation of organic chromium reduced (p<0.05) breast meat fat content but increased breast meat protein content. The addition of chromium in the diet had no effect on boneless breast, skinless boneless breast, boneless leg, skinless boneless leg but reduced percentage of sirloin muscle. Total cholesterol and triglycerides were reduced by organic Cr supplementation. Supplementation with 200 and 400 ppb of both Cr-Yeast and Cr-Pic showed the lowest total cholesterol. The effects of type of Cr on HDL and LDL were variable, however, LDL increased with increasing level of Cr supplementation. This trial indicates that organic chromium tended to improve growth performances and carcass composition, reduced total cholesterol and triglycerides. The optimum level of organic chromium supplementation was at 200 ppb.

Chromium-carbon (Cr-C) and chromium-carbon-phosphorus (Cr-C-P) alloy deposits using trivalent chromium sulfate baths containing potassium formate were prepared to study their current efficiency, hardness change and phase transformations behavior with heat treatment, respectively. The current efficiencies of Cr-C and Cr-C-P alloy deposits increase with increasing current density in the range of 15-35 A/dm$^2$. Carbon content of Cr-C and phosphorous of Cr-C-P layers decreases with increasing current density, whereas, the carbon content of Cr-C-P layer is almost constant with the current density. Cr-C deposit shows crystallization at $400^{\circ}C$ and has (Cr+Cr$_{ 23}$$C_{6}$) phases at $800^{\circ}C$. Cr-C-P deposit shows crystallization at $600^{\circ}C$ and has (Cr+Cr$_{23}$$C_{6}$$+Cr_3$P) phases at $800^{\circ}C$. The hardness of Cr-C and Cr-C-P deposits after heating treatment for one hour increase up to Hv 1640 and Hv 1540 and decrease about Hv 820 and Hv 1270 with increasing annealing temperature in the range of $400~^{\circ}C$, respectively. The hardness change with annealing is due to the order of occurring of chromium crystallization, precipitation hardening effect, softening and grain growth with temperature. Less decrease of hardness of Cr-C-P deposit after annealing above $700^{\circ}C$ is related to continuous precipitation of $Cr_{23}$$C_{6}$ and $Cr_3$P phases which retard grain growth at the temperature.

Chromium exposure can be in the forms of environmental pollution and occupational exposure. The harmful effects of chromium on the body greatly differ depending on its valence or solubility. Accordingly, the recommended permissible exposure limit for each chromium compound is different. This study investigated the increase or decrease of distribution and excretion of total chromium exposed simultaneously the soluble Cr+6 and Cr+3 compounds. There were no difference of total chromium concentration in plasma, red bloods cells, urine, organs between simultaneously injected and individually injected soluble Cr+6 and Cr+3 compound. The chromium clearances in urine also showed that there were two phases in the two groups. In the first phase, biological half lives of the total chromium of the two groups have been similar within 24 hr., but in the second phase, biological half life of the group injected simultaneously was 62.7 hr. and was less than that of the other group's 188.3 hr. The average concentration of total chromium in plasma was same with the control, and that of RBCs was $0.218nmol/m{\ell}$ and was slightly increased in comparison with $0.121nmol/m{\ell}$ of the control, which was not statistically significant. As a result, there were no differences of distribution and excretion of chromium between the group exposed simultaneously and the other group exposed separately the soluble Cr+6 and Cr+3 compounds. The biological half life of chromium of the former group in urine was less than that of the other group.
The effect of chemical constituents of $(Cr,\;Fe)_7C_3$ carbide phase on its hardness in the chromium-carbide type Cr white iron hardfacing weld deposits has been investigated. In order to examine $(Cr,\;Fe)_7C_3$ carbide phase, a series of filler metals with varying chromium contents was used. The alloys were deposited once or twice on a mild steel plate using the self?shielding flux cored arc welding process. The hardness of $(Cr,\;Fe)_7C_3$ carbide phase was measured by the micro-Vickers hardness test. It was shown that hardness of $(Cr,\;Fe)_7C_3$ carbide phase increased with increasing Cr content in $(Cr,\;Fe)_7C_3$ carbide phase. This behavior of the hardness of $(Cr,\;Fe)_7C_3$ carbide phase was explained by the types of chemical bonds that hold atoms together in $(Cr,\;Fe)_7C_3$ carbide phase.
Toxic effect of Hexavalent chromium $(CrO_3)$ on various cells and organs has been well recognized. However, the mechanism and degree of cytotoxicity of $CrO_3$ remain unclear. This study was performed to examine the cytotoxicity of $CrO_3$ on $C_6$ glioma cells by measuring cell viability. The XTT assay, one of the sensitive methods to determine the cell viability, was taken to examine the viability of glioma cells treated with $CrO_3$. In this study, not only decreased the number of glioma cells but morphologic changes of them were noted and cell viability decreased in a time and dose-dependent manner after treated with various concentrations of $CrO_3$ for 48hours. $IC_{90}\;and\;IC_{50}$ values in XTT assay were determined at $25{\mu}M\;and\;55{\mu}M$$CrO_3$, respectively. These results suggest that Hexavalent chromium has a highly cytotoxic effect and has a time and dose-dependent cytotoxicity on $C_6$ glioma cells.

Several boride sintered bodies such as $TiB_2$, $ZrB_2$, and $SiB_6$ were previously reported. In the present study, the sinterability and physical properties of chromium boride $(CrB_2)$ containing chromium carbide $(Cr_3C_2)$ sintered bodies were investigated in order to determine its new advanced material. The samples were sintered at desired temperature for 1 hour in vacuum under a pressure by hot pressing. The relative density of sintered bodies was measured by Archimedes' method. The relative densities of $CrB_2$ addition of 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 mass% $Cr_3C_2$ composites were 92 to 95%. The Vickers hardness of the $CrB_2$ with 10 and 15 mass% $Cr_3C_2$ composites were about 14 and 15 GPa at room temperature, respectively. The Vickers hardness at high temperature of the $CrB_2$ addition of 10 mass% $Cr_3C_2$ composite decreased with increasing measurement temperature. The Vickers hardness at 1273 K of the sample was 6 GPa. The Vickers hardness of $CrB_2$ addition of $Cr_3C_2$ composites was higher than monolithic $CrB_2$ sintered body. The powder X-ray diffraction analysis detected CrB and $B_4C$ phases in $CrB_2$ containing $Cr_3C_2$ composites.
The study was conducted to evaluate the effects of trivalent chromium from different sources on growth, carcass composition, and serum parameters in finishing pigs. Ninety-six crossbred pigs with an initial average body weight of 65.57${\pm}$1.05 kg were blocked by body weight and randomly assigned to four treatments with three replicates. Pigs were offered one of four diets including a control diet or the control diet supplemented with 200 ${\mu}g/kg$ chromium from either chromium chloride ($CrCl_{3}$), chromium picolinate (CrPic) or chromium nanocomposite (CrNano) for 40 days. After completion of the feeding trial, eight pigs from each treatment were selected to collect blood samples, and slaughtered to measure carcass composition. The results showed that supplemental chromium had no significant effect on growth performance, while CrNano increased carcass lean proportion and loin Longissimus muscle area (p<0.05), and decreased carcass fat proportion and 10th rib backfat depth (p<0.05). CrPic supplementation also resulted in lower fat proportion and larger Longissimus muscle area (p<0.05). The addition of Cr from CrNano or CrPic decreased serum glucose (p<0.05) and increased concentrations of total protein and free fat acid in serum (p<0.05). Serum urea nitrogen, triglyceride and cholesterol were decreased (p<0.05), and serum high density lipoprotein and lipase activity were increased (p<0.05) with the supplementation of CrNano. Serum insulin was decreased (p<0.05) by supplemental Cr from CrNano or CrPic, and serum insulin-like growth factor I was increased significantly in the CrNano treated group. These results suggest that chromium nanocomposite has higher efficacy on carcass composition in pigs compared to the traditional chromium sources.

The standrd electrolyte for the electrodeposition of chromium were preparwith reagent grade chromic acid(200g/L), sulfuric acid(pH=1.8)and oxalic acalic acid(640g/L)as additive. Carbon content in chromium plating varied about2.0-3.8 wt% with current density and temperatures of the bath. The hardeness of chromium platings incresed with increasing the annealing temperatures and showed maximum value of about Hv 1700 after annealing at$ 700^{\circ}C$for 60min. But, decreased it as annealing at above $700^{\circ}C$. The reason for varing thee hardness of chromium codeposited with carbon gradually foumed chromium carbide(Cr7C3), but that changed to Cr23C6 as annealing temperature at above $^700{\circ}C$. The X-ray diffraction pattern indicated that chromium carbides, such as Cr7C3 or Cr3C2, formed at formed at above $300^{\circ}C$. titanium coating sputtered on the on surface of chromium plating had performed and determined the hardness after annealing at 500, 600, $700^{\circ}C$ for 60min. the maximum hardeness was about Hv 2400 as annealing at $700^{\circ}C$. The titanium carbide formed in layer was identified by X-ray diffraction. It was confirmed that chromium and titanium carbide has effect of increasing the hardness.

Electrochemical behaviors od chromium electrodeposition from 0.05M chromium (III) sulface complexes in aqueous solutions using sodium formate-glycine mixtures as a complexing agent were studied. In the cathodic current-potential cures, it is found that the intial limiting current of Cr(III) is proportional to square root of scan rate and activiation energy from Arrhenius plot is s obtained 3.05Kcal/mol. From this results, the reaction is considered, Cr3++e longrightarrow Cr2+, which is controlled diffusion of Cr (III). It is also found that the chromium is deposited when the potential reaches to hydrogen evolution potential. Effects of NaSCN as a catalyser in the electrolyte were investigated NCS- anion seems to react strongly by specific absorption at the inner HelmholtZ layer, so that, it is considered to suppress the electrodeposition reaction reaction for chromjum, and also it is considered multipe-bridge such as Cr(III)-NCS---M(M;cathode).
The quantitative determination of chromium(VI) by separation from chromium(III) complex of 8-hydroxyquinoline using solvent extraction has been studied. The reaction conditions for chromium(III) complex of 8-hydroxyquinoline and the solvent extraction of complex were investigated in detail. The chromium(III) complex was extracted with organic solvent (n-hexane) and residual chromium(VI) was determined by ICP-AES in aqueous layer. This technique is quantitative in the pH range of 8-9 and the limitations such as interfering ions were discussed.
