  • This study was investigated the chemical composition from Syneilesis palmata essential oil and the tendency of variation of the sesquiterpene compounds according to the harvesting time. The essential oils obtained by hydro distillation from the aerial parts of Syneilesis palmata were analyzed by GC and GC-MS. Ninety-eight compounds consisting of 9 aliphatic hydrocarbons, 17 sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, 11 aliphatic aldehydes, 1 terpene aldehyde, 8 aliphatic alcohols, 4 monoterpene alcohols, 16 sesquiterpene alcohols, 3 diterpene alcohols, 6 ketones, 11 esters, 8 oxides and epoxides, 3 acids and 1 miscellaneous one were identified from the oil. Spathulenol (22.33%) was the most abundant compound, followed by ${\beta}$- caryophyllene (6.23%), germacrene D (5.57%), longipinane (4.10%), and epiglobulol (3.65%). The volatile composition of Syneilesis palmata was characterized by higher contents of sesquiterpene compounds, especially sesquiterpene alcohols. The total content of 13 sesquiterpene compounds was decreased significantly from 2010 to 2012. ${\alpha}$-Caryophyllene, ${\beta}$-bisabolene, elemol, germacrene D, ${\beta}$-zingiberene, longipinane, and ${\beta}$-caryophyllene alcohol contents decreased, while ${\beta}$-bisabolol content increased during 3 years. The ecological responses to recent climate change may be influenced in the chemical components of natural plant terpenoids.

  • Transparent conductive oxides (TCO) are necessary as front electrode for most thin film solar cell. In our paper, transparent conducting aluminum-doped Zinc oxide films (ZnO:Al) were prepared by rf magnetron sputtering on glass (Corning 1737) substrate as a variation of the deposition condition. After deposition, the smooth ZnO:Al films were etched in diluted HCI (0.5%) to examine the electrical and surface morphology properties as a variation of the time. The most important deposition condition of surface-textured ZnO films by chemical etching is the processing pressure and the substrate temperature. In low pressures (0.9mTorr) and high substrate temperatures $({\leq}300^{\circ}C)$, the surface morphology of films exhibits a more dense and compact film structure with effective light-trapping to apply the silicon thin film solar cells.

  • Carbon nanofilaments (CNFs) could be synthesized using $C_2H_2/H_2$ as source gases and $SF_6$ as an incorporated additive gas under thermal chemical vapor deposition system. Ni powders were used as the catalyst for the formation of the CNFs. During the initial deposition stage, the initiation of the CNFs on the Ni catalyst was investigated. The geometries of the as-grown CNFs on Ni catalyst were strongly dependent on the size and/or the shape of Ni catalyst. Small size catalyst (<150 nm in diameter) gives rise to the unidirectional growth of the CNFs. On the other hand, large size catalyst (150~500 nm), the bidirectional growth of the CNFs could be observed. Particularly, the well faceted parallelogram-shaped Ni catalyst could give rise to the bidirectional growth of the CNFs having the symmetrically opposite direction. Eventually, these bidirectional growths of CNFs were understood to form the well-developed carbon microcoils (CMCs). Based on these results, the optimal shape and the size of the Ni catalyst to form the CMCs were discussed.

  • Ten under 2 micron size fractions of the montmorillonite from Yongdongri area, Gyeongsangbug-Do were studied using X-ray powder diffraction, cation exchange measurement, differential thermal analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, differential thermal scanning calorimetry and chemical analysis. Montmorillonites occurring at same deposit show limited variation in chemical composition whereas in thermal properties they do not. Their dehydroxylation endothermic peaks are "abnormal" type with a small range of variation of peak temperature reflecting tetrahedral substitution of Al for Si. Data from DSC show that divalent-cation saturated montmorillonite has relatively a higher endothermic heat capacity than monovalent-cation saturated montmorillonite, indicating that cations with higher electronegativity hold more water molecules.

  • This study was performed to find out how much water the cement hydration reaction need. It is real situation that it is difficult to find out the amount of chemical combined water with stoichiometric chemical reaction form. Because several variation occurred during hydration reaction it's not easy to divide water which used at cement paste mixture. In this study high temperature(105$^{\circ}C$) dry method was used to divide evaporable water and non-evaporable water. The last is combined water chemically and some free water absorbed to products of hydration physically. The test was processed with variation of water cement ratio from 10% to 45% with 5% intervals. The weight of cement paste specimens were measured after dry for 72hours at each checking time(0.5, 1, 3, 5, 10, 24, 48, 72, 168hour). In this study some conclusions such as follows were derived. Firstly, Pure combined water contents required at cement hydration result in 23.3percent of the weight of cement. Secondly, The sufficient mixing water needed to fully hydrated cement result in about 40∼45percent of weight of cement. That is, gel pores water could be about 16.7∼21.7percent of weight of cement.

  • The transparent organic-inorganic hybrid films were prepared by the Sol-Gel process. PVP(polyvinylpyrrolidone) was used in organic component and TEOS(tetraethoxysilane) was used in inorganic component. HCI, $CH_{3}COOH$, and $NH_{4}OH$ were used as the Sol-Gel catalyst. The characteristics according to not only the variation of organic and inorganic contents but also the variation of catalyst species and contents were investigated. On the whole, the compatibility was remained between organic and inorganic components, and also as the TEOS contents were increased, mostly the transparency and the mechanical, thermal properties were improved. In addition, as content of catalysts was increased, the films showed characteristics that were closer to PVP than silica. Although the transparency of films was preserved in HCI and $CH_{3}COOH$, only the film containing more than 40wt% TEOS in $NH_{4}OH$ showed different phenomena.

  • A novel approach for metabolite extraction and fingerprinting was introduced based upon the nano-baskets and emulsion liquid membrane-nuclear magnetic resonance (ELM-NMR) technique. The objective of this method is optimizing the fingerprints, minimizing the metabolic variation from analysis, increasing the likelihood differences, and obtaining the maximum extraction yield. Low molecular weight metabolites in rat serum were recovered by ELMs using 12 nano-baskets of calixarene, as both emulsifier and carrier. The yields of ELMs were optimized by the method of one-at-a-time. According to NMR data, the maximum metabolic variation was achieved using scaffold 4 (4 wt %), n-decane membrane, stirring rate of 300 rpm, treat and phase ratios of 0.3 and 0.8, respectively. The results revealed that some calixarenes tend to extract non-specific macromolecules; and repeatability of fingerprints for 7-mediated ELM was maximum and for 3-mediated ELM was minimum. The yield of extractions was obtained to be higher for n-decane and lower for carbon tetrachloride. Among different membranes, the fingerprints by chlorinated liquid membranes were more repeatable than using toluene or n-decane.

  • This study investigated the fouling behavior of $Al_2O_3$ colloids on polyethylene microfiltration membrane. To examine the effect of operation variation on fouling, operating pressure was increased from 0.49 to 1.96 bar along with time elapses and then was reduced to 0.49 bar reversely. A hysteresis behavior was observed in the membrane permeate flux over pressure, revealing different fluxes at the same pressure according to the pressure control type, increasing and decreasing. Permeate resistance and its rate of increase was higher in the decreasing pressure cycle than in the increasing pressure cycle. At the initial period of filtration, fouling mechanism for the both cycles was governed by the cake filtration. The degree of fouling was higher in the decreasing pressure cycle compared with in the increasing pressure cycle.

  • (Ti, Al)N films were deposited on 304 stainless steel sheet by D.C. magnetron sputtering using Al target and Ti plate. The high temperature oxidation of (T, Al)N films with the variation of composition has been investigated. The chemical composition of (Ti, Al)N films with the variation of composition has been investigated. The chemical composition of (Ti, Al)N films was similar to the sputter area ratio of titanium to aluminum target by means of EDS and AES survey. The high temperature oxidation test of (Ti, Al)N showed that (Ti, Al)N has better high temperature resistance than TiN and TiC films. TiC films were cracked at 40$0^{\circ}C$ in air TiN films quickly were oxidised at $600^{\circ}C$, were spalled more than $700^{\circ}C$. But (Ti, Al)N films are relatively stable to$ 900^{\circ}C$. The good resistance to high temperature oxida-tion of (Ti, Al)N films are due to the formation of dense Al2O3 and TiO2 oxide layer. Especially, Al2O3 oxide layer is more important. The results obtained from this study show, it is believe that the (Ti, Al)N film by D.C. magnetron sputtering is promising for the use of high temperature and wear resistance mate-rials.

  • Rates of solvolysis of trans-[Co$(N-eten)_2Cl_2$]$^+$ have been investigated using spectrophotometric method at various pressures and temperatures in the mixtures of water with the t-butyl alcohol which possesses a high structure inducing capacity in water. The values of ${\Delta}V^{\neq}$ obtained from pressure effect on the rate constants were 2.55∼ 5.83 $cm^3mol^{-1}$. These values were discussed in terms of dissociative mechanism. Extrema found in the variation of ${\Delta}H^{\neq}$ and ${\Delta}S^{\neq}$ with solvent composition correlated with extrema in the variation of the physical properties of the mixtures. The logarithms of rate constants correlated linearly with both Grunwald-Winstein parameter and the reciprocal of dielectric constant ($Ds^{-1}$). The gradient, m of Grunwald-Winstein plot for the trans-[Co$(N-eten)_2Cl_2$]$^+$ was 0.09, which is significantly lower than those for the other cobalt (Ⅲ)-dichloro complexes. It was suggested that the reaction is an Id mechanism with long extension of Co-Cl bond in the transition state, as found for the C-Cl bond in the transition state for the solvolysis of t-butyl chloride.
