1. EAF Dust in Japan - Generation and Characteristics. The quantity of dust generated from EAF shops in Japan was estimated to be 520,000 tons/year in 1999. Extremely fine dust (or fume) is formed in the EAF by metal vaporization. Its characteristics such as chemical compositions, phases, particle size, leaching of heavy metal are mentioned. 2. EAF Dust Treatment Methods in Japan. In 1999, 61% of EAF dust was treated by regional zinc recovery processing routes, 25% went to landfill disposal, 4% was reused as cement material, and 10% was treated by on-site processing routes. The problems of EAF dust treatment methods in Japan are: (1) very high treatment cost, and (2) heavy environmental load (leaching of heavy metal, emission of dioxins, depletion of disposal sites, etc). It has been much hoped for that new dust management technology would be developed. 3. New technology of EAF dust treatment in Japan. In Japan, some new technologies of EAF dust treatment have been developed, and some others are in the developing stages. Following five processes are mentioned:. (1) Smelting reduction process by Kawasaki Steel, (2) DSM process by Daido Steel, (3) VHR process by Aichi Steel, (4) On-site dust direct recycling technology, and (5) Process technology of direct separation and recovery of iron and zinc metals contained in high temperature EAF off gas by the Japan Research and Development Center fur Metals.
A novel microwave-induced pyrolysis was used for the recovery of valuable products from waste polystyrene in motor oil. Quartz tube was introduced as microwave reactor and silicon carbide was used as the microwave absorbent. In the experiments, different pyrolysis conditions were applied, such as time range from 30 minutes to 1 hour and microwave input power range from 180 to 250W. The distillate products from pyrolysis were analyzed with GC/MS. Styrene, 1-methyl styrene, toluene, ethyl benzene were the four main products. Styrene recovery rate from polystyrene was around 50%. Temperature for the complete pyrolysis using microwave was around $300^{\circ}C$ which is much lower than that of conventional thermal pyrolysis.
[ $LiCoO_2$ ] a cathode material for lithium rechargeable batteries, was prepared using recycled $Co_3O_4$. First, the cobalt hydroxide powders were separated from waste WC-Co hard metal with acid-base chemical treatment, and then the impurities were eliminated by centrifuge method. Subsequently, $Co_3O_4$ powders were prepared by thermal treatment of resulting $Co(OH)_2$. By adding a certain amount of $Li_2CO_3$ and $LiOH{\cdot}H_2O$, the $LiCoO_2$ was obtained by sintering for 10 h in air at $800^{\circ}C$. The synthesized $LiCoO_2$ particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis.

Recovered paper has been widely used as a main raw material of papermaking in Korea. Recycling of recovered paper helps to reduce production cost and preserve an environment. To recycle recovered paper efficiently, de-inking is a key process in recycling mills. De-inking process would be affected by various influencing factors such as the type of de-inking agent, mixed ratio of recovered paper, season, and process conditions. In this study, fatty acid and nonionic surfactant were used as the de-inking agent in froth-flotation process of mixed recovered paper. De-inking properties of mixed recovered paper were investigated according to the addition level of each chemical. Nonionic surfactant had a small effect on de-inking efficiency of mixed recovered paper due to decreased reject. As the additional level of fatty acid increases, fragmented ink particles increased and then optical properties of recycled paper decreased because fragmented ink particles adsorbed onto the fiber surface.

Lysine decarboxylase (CadA) converts ${\small{L}}-lysine$ into cadaverine (1,5-pentanediamine), which is an important platform chemical with many industrial applications. Although there have been many efforts to produce cadaverine through the soluble CadA enzyme or Escherichia coli whole cells overexpressing the CadA enzyme, there have been few reports concerning the immobilization of the CadA enzyme. Here, we have prepared a cross-linked enzyme aggregate (CLEA) of E. coli CadA and performed bioconversion using $CadA^{CLEA}$. $CadA^{free}$ and $CadA^{CLEA}$ were characterized for their enzymatic properties. The optimum temperatures of $CadA^{free}$ and $CadA^{CLEA}$ were $60^{\circ}C$ and $55^{\circ}C$, respectively. The thermostability of $CadA^{CLEA}$ was significantly higher than that of $CadA^{free}$. The optimum pH of both enzymes was 6.0. $CadA^{free}$ could not be recovered after use, whereas $CadA^{CLEA}$ was rapidly recovered and the residual activity was 53% after the $10^{th}$ recycle. These results demonstrate that $CadA^{CLEA}$ can be used as a potential catalyst for efficient production of cadaverine.
This paper proposes a modified Ludzack-Ettinger (MLE) type membrane bioreactor (MBR) as a method of treatment for wastewater from food waste disposer. Micro-membrane filtration allows for an extremely low concentration of suspended solids in the effluent. The effluent of the reactor in question is characterized by a relatively high level of non-biodegradable organics, containing a substantial amount of soluble microbial products and biomass. Results obtained in this paper by measurement of membrane fouling are consistent with biomass concentration in the reactor, as opposed to chemical oxygen demand (COD). The MLE process is shown to be effective for the treatment of wastewater with a high COD/N ratio of 20, resulting in are markedly high total nitrogen removal efficiency. Denitrification could be improved at a higher internal recycle ratio. Despite the low concentration of influent phosphorus, the phosphorus concentration of the outflow is seen to be relatively high. This is because outflow phosphorous concentration is related to COD consumption, and the process operates at along solids retention time.

The environmental education is based on the assumption that accurate knowledge and attitude could be linked to real action, but those have no effect on changing the behavior. To effect the change in behavior, we need to consider the reflective thinking which can make people change their behavior. The strategies to accelerate the reflective thinking are five steps of the reflective thinking process and the interaction through the discussion of students. And also, it is more proper if the contents are based on the real experiences of the students. Thus, this study tried to know whether the improvement of reflective thinking was able to affect to the environmental behavior. The environment education program was applied to the 60 elementary school 6th grade students in Gyeonggi-do and the survey methods were presented in the general experimental curriculum. To study 6th subjects (energy, harmful chemical material, heavy metal and agricultural chemicals, food additive, environmental friendly consumption, and recycle) was developed. This study shows the effect of the program on the environment knowledge, the environment behavior, the level of reflective-thinking and communication ability.

Recently, there have been many studies about recycling cementitious powder from concrete waste(hereinafter referred to as waste powder), generated after recycle aggregate production. Previous studies showed that when the heating process of waste powder at $700^{\circ}C,\;Ca(OH)_2$ in paste is dehydrated making possible the restoration of hydraulic properties. Recycled cement with hydraulic properties restored is thought to be re-hydrated through the mechanism of hydration, which is almost similar in Portland cement. This clearly suggests that the hydrate of recycled cement is alkali in type. Like in general concrete, if recycled cement is used as a structural material, resistance performance against carbonation or neutralization by $CaCO_3$ in air probably would be most influential to the life of steel-reinforced concrete structure. Thus the purpose of this study is to make an experimental review on chemical properties of recycled cement, manufactured with concrete waste as base material, and investigate the durability of concrete using recycled cement through evaluating the cement's performance of resistance to carbonation in accordance with its accelerating age. Based on its results, further, the study seeks to provide basic information about ways of utilizing recycled cement.
Five different polymer nanofibers, namely, polyaniline nanofiber (PANI), magnetically separable polyaniline nanofiber (PAMP), magnetically separable DEAE cellulose fiber (DEAE), magnetically separable CM cellulose fiber (CM), and polystyrene nanofiber (PSNF), have been used for the immobilization of lactase (E.C. 3.2.1.23). Except for CM and PSNF, three polymers showed great properties. The catalytic activities (kcat) of the free, PANI, PAMP, and magnetic DEAE-cellulose were determined to be 4.0, 2.05, 0.59, and 0.042 mM/min·mg protein, respectively. The lactase immobilized on DEAE, PANI, and PAMP showed improved stability and recyclability. PANI- and PAMP-lactase showed only a 0-3% decrease in activity after 3 months of vigorous shaking conditions (200 rpm) and at room temperature (25℃). PANI-, PAMP-, and DEAE-lactase showed a high percentage of conversion (100%, 47%, and 12%) after a 1 h lactose hydrolysis reaction. The residual activities of PANI-, PAMP-, and DEAE-lactase after 10 times of recycling were 98%, 96%, and 97%, respectively.

Drainage water in lowland paddy fields is quantitatively influenced recycle and/or repeated irrigation by irrigation facilities, i.e. pumps, check gates, small reservoirs and so on. In those drainage channels, nutrients accumulation and increasing organic matters are considered to be occurred, and water quality would be degraded not only environmental aspect but irrigation purpose. In general, Total Nitrogen (T-N) is interested water quality index in irrigation water, because high nitrogen concentration sometimes caused decreasing rice production by excess growth and fallen or degrading quality of taste, then, farmers would like to clear water less than 1mg/L of T-N concentration. In drainage channel, it is known that the nitrogen concentration change is influenced by physical, chemical and biological properties, i.e, stream or river bed condition, water temperature, other water quality index, and plant cover condition. In this study, discharge data (velocity and level) in a drainage channel was monitored by an Acoustic Doppler system and water quality was sampled at same time in 2011. So those data was analyzed by multi regression model to realize hydrological and environmental factors to influence with nitrogen concentration. The results showed the difference tendency between irrigation and non-irrigation period, and those influenced factors would be considered in water quality model developing in future.
