  • A pulse frequency modulation control method for single-switch three-phase buck rectifiers is comprehensively studied in this paper. The proposed pulse frequency control method leads the three-phase buck rectifier to high performance system that can draw the nearly sinusoidal imput-line currents. The simulated and experimental results demonstrate that the system provides low total harmonic distortion of the input-line currents, high-power factor, and good output voltage regulation.

  • EVA-OH (Ethylene-vinyl acetate-vinyl alchol terpolymers) were prepared by using the transesterification reaction between ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer and alchol. Structural and thermal analyses were accomplished with FTIR and DSC. Space charge behaviors of EVA-OH were investigated using PEA method. Electrical conduction currents were also measured. As the increase of conversion rate, melting point increased and we could observe changes in space charge distributions and the increase of electrical conduction currents of EVA-OH.

  • This study proposes a coupled inductor method for the parallel operation of a power conditioning system (PCS). When primary and secondary currents flow in the same direction in a coupled inductor, total flux and inductance are cancelled; when currents flow in opposite directions, each flux becomes an individual inductor. These characteristics are applied in the parallel operation of a PCS. To connect at a grid code, abnormal current, which is barred under the grid connection code, is blocked by using a coupled inductor. A design based on the capacity and current duration time of a PCS is verified through hardware implementation. Experiment results show the effectiveness of variance reduction.

  • This paper deals with the characteristics of potential rise and effective impulse impedance of deep-driven ground rods that are used in high resistivity soil or in confined places such as downtown. Also the effects of the impulse and fault currents on the deep-driven ground rods combined with different type grounding electrodes like as mesh grids and counterpoises are described. The $8/20{\mu}s$ impulse current and other wave currents with different rise times are injected into the test ground rod and the effective impedances are examined. The most effective way to obtain the fine transient impedance behaviors of deep-driven ground rods is to reduce the inductive component of grounding electrode systems combined with other ground electrodes.

  • This paper has presented the characteristics of thermoelectric devices and the plots of thermoelectric cooling and heating as a function of currents for different temperatures. The maximum cooling and heating(.DELTA.T) for (BiSb)$\_$2/Te$\_$3/ and Bi$\_$2/(TeSe)$\_$3/ as a function of currents is about 75.deg. C, A solderable ceramic insulated thermoelectric module. Each module contains 31 thermoelectric devices. Thermoelectric material is a quaternary alloy of bismuth, tellurium, selenium, and antimony with small amounts of suitable dopants, carefully processed to produce an oriented polycrystalline ingot with superior anisotropic thermoelectric properties. Metallized ceramic plates afford maximum electrical insulation and thermal conduction. Operating temperature range is from -156.deg. C to +104.deg. C. The amount of Peltier cooling is directly proportional to the current through the sample, and the temperature gradient at the thermoelectric materials junctions will depend on the system geometry.

  • The roll- and pitch-induced eddy currents create a magnetic field that contributes to the total magnetic signature of naval vessels. The magnetic signature is of concern, as it exposes the ship to the threat of modern influence mines. It is estimated that the eddy current is the second most important source contributing to a ship's underwater magnetic field following the ferromagnetic effect. In the present paper, the finite element (FE) method is used to predict the eddy current signature of a real ship. The FE model is validated using the measurements of the Canadian research vessel CFAV QUEST at the Earth's Field Simulator (EFS) in Schirnau, Germany. Modeling and validation of the eddy current magnetic signature for a real ship represents a novelty in the field. It is shown that the characteristics of this signature depend on frequency. Based on these results, a ship's degaussing system could be improved to cancel both the ferromagnetic and the eddy current contribution to the magnetic signature simultaneously, reducing the susceptibility to sea mines.

  • The electrical properties of Au/n-type Ge Schottky contacts with different contact areas were investigated using current-voltage (I-V) measurements. Analyses of the reverse bias current characteristics showed that the Poole-Frenkel effect became strong with decreasing contact area. The contribution of the perimeter current density to the total current density was found to increase with increasing reverse bias voltage. Fitting of the forward bias I-V characteristics by considering various transport models revealed that the tunneling current is dominant in the low forward bias region. The contributions of both the thermionic emission (TE) and the generation-recombination (GR) currents to the total current were similar regardless of the contact area, indicating that these currents mainly flow through the bulk region. In contrast, the contribution of the tunneling current to the total current increased with decreasing contact area. The largest $E_{00}$ value (related to tunneling probability) for the smallest contact area was associated with higher tunneling effect.

  • This study investigated variation leakage current maximum value and waveform considering applied voltage phase angel by simulating three environmental conditions, such as fog, salt fog, and kaolin contamination .As the result of applied voltage phase angel characteristics, leakage currents presented almost in phases in the early stage regardless of environmental conditions just after applying the voltage, and the phase of leakage currents certain phase lags for the discharge of the applied voltage when surface discharges occurred due to the continuous environmental contamination. In addition, the difference in phase significantly increased according to the intensity of discharges. The change in distortion rates according to the environmental contamination presented a nearly same level just after applying the voltage. The distortion rate of third harmonic for the fundamental wave presented by the order of fog>salt fog>kaolin when surface discharges occurred due to the applied voltage for certain continued periods. In the case of the fog and salt fog, the scale of spectrums decreased according to the increase in frequencies from the results of the analysis of high frequencies. In addition, the even number frequency presented a relatively large level compared to the odd number frequency under the kaolin contamination.

  • An interleaved bridgeless buck-boost AC/DC converter is presented in this paper to achieve the characteristics of low conduction loss, a high power factor and low harmonic and ripple currents. There are only two power semiconductors in the line current path instead of the three power semiconductors in a conventional boost AC/DC converter. A buck-boost converter operated in the boundary conduction mode (BCM) is adopted to control the active switches to achieve the following characteristics: no diode reverse recovery problem, zero current switching (ZCS) turn-off of the rectifier diodes, ZCS turn-on of the power switches, and a low DC bus voltage to reduce the voltage stress of the MOSFETs in the second DC/DC converter. Interleaved pulse-width modulation (PWM) is used to control the switches such that the input and output ripple currents are reduced such that the output capacitance can be reduced. The voltage doubler topology is adopted to double the output voltage in order to extend the useable energy of the capacitor when the line voltage is off. The circuit configuration, principle operation, system analysis, and a design example are discussed and presented in detail. Finally, experiments on a 500W prototype are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed converter.

  • The photoelectrochemical behavior of polypyrrole films on Pt, glassy-C and indium tin oxide(ITO) under illumination was studied in aqueous solution containing a redox couple such as I-/I2 or Fe(CN)64-/Fe(CN)63-. Polypyrrole(PPy) was coated on Pt, glassy-C and ITO electrodes using electrochemical polymerization of pyrrole by potentiostatic method. Illumination of the PPy film results in the increase of cathodic and anodic currents at redox potentials of the redox species. These enhanced currents are caused both by the semiconductor characteristics of PPy and by the photothermal acceleration of redox reaction at PPy-electrode surface, and are dependent on the pH of redox solutions and the dopants in PPy.
