  • In [2], [8], the author studied the characteristic connection as a good substitute for the Levi-Civita connection. In this paper, we consider the space $U(3)=(U(1){\times}U(1){\times}U(1))$ with an almost Hermitian structure which admits a characteristic connection and compute the characteristic connection concretely.

  • The characteristic connection is a good substitute for the Levi-Civita connection, especially in studying non-integrable geometries. Unfortunately, not every geometric structure has the characteristic connection. In this paper we consider the space $U(3)/(U(1){\times}U(1){\times}U(1))$ with an almost Hermitian structure and prove that it has a geometric structure admitting the characteristic connection.

  • The characteristic connection is a good substitute for Levi-Civita connection in studying non-integrable geometries. In this paper we consider the homogeneous space $U(3)/(U(1){\times}U(1){\times}U(1))$ with a one-parameter family of Hermitian structures. We prove that the one-parameter family of Hermtian structures admit a characteristic connection. We also compute the torsion of the characteristic connecitons.

  • This paper describes a method for region segmentation and string extractionin documents which are mixed with text, graphic and picture images by the use of the structural characteristic of connceted components. In segmentation of non-text regionas, with connection-characteristic functions which are made by structural characteristic of connected components, segmentation process is progressed. In the string extraction, first we organize basic-unit-region of which vertical and horizontal length are 1/4 of average length of connection components. Second, by merging the basic-unit-regions one other that have smaller values than a given connection intensity threshold. Third, by linking the word blocks with similar block anagles, initial strings are cresed. Finally the whold strings are generated by merging remaining word blocks whose angles are not decided, if their height and prosition are similar to the initial strings. This method can extract strings that are neither horizontal nor of various character sizes. Through computer exteriments with different style documents, we have shown that the feasibility of our method successes.

  • The appearance of many Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) constructions look like ordinary steel construction, because GFRP has been imitated by the same way with the traditional steel's cross section as well as connection system. In terms of detachable connection, there was not enough appropriate option of GFRP connection, such as a traditional bolt connection for steel and wood structures. Most of all, from material characteristic of GFRP related to the deficient ductility, the shearstress principle of GFRP s not proper for the material property, which causes ineffective and not economic application of material. With this research problem, the innovative and detachable onnection system, which is more considered with appropriate material characteristic for FRP, is developed. Not only short time but also long time research with various connection variations is carried out.

  • In order to measure the transfer characteristic(S21) of the impedance transformer, two impedance transformers must be symmetrically connected. However, the transfer characteristic of two symmetrically connected impedance transformers is influenced by the length of the intermediate connection line. This paper theoretically examines closely the length of the intermediate connection line to obtain the accurate transfer characteristic of the impedance transformer. The electrical length of the intermediate connection line for obtaining the accurate transfer characteristic of the 4:1(50-Ω:12.5-Ω) impedance transformer is calculated about 45°. Using the calculated length of the connection line, The λ/4-microstrip impedance transformer is fabricated at 1 GHz to measure the transfer characteristic. The symmetrically connected impedance transformer is measured the reflection characteristic(S11) of -40.64dB and the transfer characteristic(S21) of -0.154dB at 0.980GHz. This value is approximately equal to the theoretical calculated 987MHz center frequency and -0.15dB transfer loss value of the λ/4-microstrip impedance transformer.

  • Depending on the characteristic vector filed ζ, a generic lightlike submanifold M in an indefinite Kaehler manifold ${\bar{M}}$ with a semi-symmetric metric connection has various characterizations. In this paper, when the characteristic vector filed ζ belongs to the screen distribution S(TM) of M, we provide some characterizations of (Lie-) recurrent generic lightlike submanifold M in an indefinite Kaehler manifold ${\bar{M}}$ with a semi-symmetric metric connection. Moreover, we characterize various generic lightlike submanifolds in an indefinite complex space form ${\bar{M}}$ (c) with a semi-symmetric metric connection.

  • Since the opening of KTX, the number of people coming to KTX stations to use KTX has steadily increased. Passengers have a variety of access modes between a KTX station and their origin/destination. But there is no way to confirm the level of connection strength. So this study examines various connection characteristic variables that can show the connectivity, and examines influencing relationships, and chooses variables that affect connectivity by using a KTX modal split. We will suggest connectivity estimation models between a KTX station and origin/destination based on the selected connected variables.

  • This paper describes a speech synthesis technique by concatenating unit phoneme. At that time, a major problem is that discontinuity is happened from connection part between unit phonemes, especially from connection part between unit phonemes recorded by different persons. To solve the problem, this paper uses clustered diphone, and proposes a spectral smoothing technique, not only using formant trajectory and distribution characteristic of spectrum but also reflecting human's acoustic characteristic. That is, the proposed technique performs unit phoneme clustering using distribution characteristic of spectrum at connection part between unit phonemes and decides a quantity and a scope for the smoothing by considering human's acoustic characteristic at the connection part of unit phonemes, and then performs the spectral smoothing using weights calculated along a time axes at the border of two diphones. The proposed technique removes the discontinuity and minimizes the distortion which can be occurred by spectrum smoothing. For the purpose of the performance evaluation, we test on five hundred diphones which are extracted from twenty sentences recorded by five persons, and show the experimental results.

  • Composite beam, which combined the material characteristic of the steel and concrete, has been widely used in the construction of various building and bridge system. For the effective application of the composite beam, the composite action on the composite interface between the concrete element and the steel element should be achieved by shear connectors. The behavioral characteristics of composite beam are related with the degree of interaction and the degree of shear connection according to the shear strength and shear stiffness of the stud shear connectors. These two concepts are also affected by the number of installed shear connector and the strength of composite materials. In this study, experimental and analytical evaluations of the degree of shear connection affected by stud diameter were conducted, and the relationship between structural behavior and the degree of shear connection was verified. The very small difference among the ultimate loads of the specimens depending on the change of the degree of connection was possibly because of the dependence of the ultimate load on the characteristic of plastic moment of the composite beam.
