  • The year 2010 has been regarded as a year of China's assertive diplomacy. A series of China's behavior--including China's critical reaction to the U.S. for its sales of weapons to Taiwan, the Dalai Lama's visit to President Obama, China's arbitrary designation of 'core interests' over the South China Sea, China's inordinate reactions to the sinking of the Cheonan and Yeonpyeong bombardment, and China's activities in the Senkaku/Diaoyu island areas--has served as the witnesses to China's assertive diplomacy in 2010. The major causes of China's assertive diplomacy can be summed up by three factors: potential power transition from U.S. to China; emerging China's nationalism; and the recession of the Tao Guang Yang Hui as a diplomatic principle. But a majority of Western sinologists claim that China's assertive diplomacy is defensive in terms of its character. China's neighboring states, however, perceive its assertive diplomacy as diplomatic threat. Due to these states' geographical proximity and capability gaps with China, these neighbors experience difficulties in coping with China's behavior. In particular, China's coercive economic diplomacy, in which China tends to manipulate the neighbors' economic dependency on China for its diplomatic leverage, is a case in point for China's assertive diplomacy. China's assertiveness seems to be continued even after the inauguration of Xi Jinping government. Although the Xi government's diplomatic rhetorics in "New Type of Great Power Relationship" and the "Convention for Neighboring States Policy" sound friendly and cooperative, its subsequent behavior, like unilateral announcement of Chinese Air Defense Identification Zone (CADIZ), does not conform with its rhetoric. Overall, China's assertiveness has been consolidated as a fashion of its diplomacy, and it is likely to continue in its relations with neighbors. As a neighboring state, the ROK should approach to it with more balanced attitude. In addition, it needs to find out a new diplomatic leverage to deal with China in accordance with its security environment, in which China plays a growing role.

  • The post-war period has witnessed the emergence of new towns in a number of countries in Southeast Asia. The new town development in Malaysia started with Petaling Jaya (PJ) as a satellite town in 1953 to accommodate the rapid growing population of Kuala Lumpur (KL). Shah Alam (SA), Subang Jaya (SJ) are all located in the Klang Valley and act as an important social and economic development hub in the nation. New towns have been designed in accordance with the British town planning principles, which were based on the model of a modern ideal city. They constituted a new regional character because they were developed taking into consideration factors such as local technologies as well as site and, climatic conditions. The initial goal of the new town construction and planning, which focused basically on resettling squatters, was later changed to focus on the improvement of the quality of living. This phenomenon was related to the emergence of the middle class, which had grown rapidly ever since. With the public agencies, the private sectors have played an important role in providing viable and sustainable human units of settlement that address the new design issues of new town planning. The goal of this study is to identify the identity of the recent new town planning principles of Malaysia, how they were developed over time and how they were regionalized and transformed in a cultural and regional context. For the analysis, we chose 3 new towns which are located in Klang Valley and which are representative recent projects of two major housing development companies in Malaysia. To identify the planning principles, we analyzed these projects in the viewpoint of the urban space, street system, and housing blocks and units.

  • The effort of transferring some parts of urban functions to the underground space is growing trend among modem cities because of the limit of horizontal land use, the rise of land value, the diversification of human desire, etc. Thus, the basement of building and the subway station have deepened. It calls our attention to safety about evacuation from the underground space to the ground. Until now, the study about crowding walk in stairs has been progressed, focusing on the crowding walk that is going down the stairs, and there is no study about crowding walk that is going up the stairs. This study measured walking pace by crowd density that is going up the stairs in the subway station stairs making one-way movement of crowd. The actual survey showed that the mathematical relation 'V=0.638-0.0949p' determines going up walking velocity at a gradient of $23^{\circ}$, and the mathematical relation will be 'V=0.597-0.1067p' at a gradient of $30^{\circ}$, when it is converted, based on the average walking velocity of crowd by the slope of the stairs which is recommended by Architectural Institute of Japan.

  • In today's rapidly growing contemporary society, there is a tendency for demand to automate production processes by utilizing the vision system. In general, image recognition is mainly concerned with embossed characters such as license plates, and research on recognition of intaglio characters is very limited. Especially, intaglio characters, which are marked on rubber related products such as tire surfaces, have difficulty in recognizing characters or numbers through image because the difference in brightness with surrounding is not so large. In this paper, we propose a system to improve the recognition rate of characters marked on intaglio rubber products such as tire surfaces. Also, it can be applied flexibly according to the lighting environment. Through the proposed system, production and inventory management and defect detection can be processed quickly by applying to the production process of tire and rubber products.

  • Cats used to be long avoided in Korean culture due to prejudices on their negative implications, yet they are increasingly being favoured by domestic readers along with a growing number of cat lovers, picture books, essays and webtoons. In the case of Yoko Sano's work, half of her published books in Korea depicts cats. Among those is 'The Cat That Lived a Million Times' which is a worldwide million seller. The research analyses five picture books on cats published in Korea, focusing on finding out symbolic representation of cats other than merely being the protagonist of the book. Sano asserts that we respect our own free well and love ourselves just as cats do in her books. In conclusion, cats in Sano's work mostly represent the author herself, which are sometimes depicted as mother and son. The colours and thick outlines of her cats, unlike tender characteristics, describes self-righteous strong personality, while emphasising both static and dynamic movements.

  • Recently, an interest in a mobile search is increasing according to the growing propagation of smart phones. However, a keypad, which is not appropriate for mobile environment, is the only input media for the mobile search. As an alternative, voice emerged as a new media for the mobile search, but this also has weaknesses. Thus, in the paper, we propose a mobile content called Orthros for searching the Internet using images as an input. Orthros extracts texts from images, and then inserts the texts to public search engines as a keyword. Also, Orthros can repeat searching with the extracted texts by storing result URL to internal databases. As an experiment, we analyze properties of recognizable images and present the implementation method in details.

  • It is growing to use the E-Commerce, recently However, if a cracking tool that detects e keyboard input is set up, users' input values and personal information could be taken away. This paper shows the design and implementation of security system that prevent the keyboard input information leaking. The ideas of thus paper are encrypting the keyboard input values with using the keyboard interrupt hooking, the browser embedding program's decrypting the values in case of need and decrypting all values in the web server. The own input control was developed for direct attacks to the browser, and that the values of password fields which are showed as *(asterisk character) won't be decrypted in the client PC is different from other commercial keyboard input security systems. Consequently, this paper shows the chance of realizing a lot safer customer information protective system than before.

  • In modern society, the optimal physical environment is constantly changing due to IT development, and it is provided with convenience. In this age environment, the children are growing up thinking that the value of community consciousness through relationship with others is not important in the social reality in which various ways and environments that can be done by themselves are succeeding. No matter how rapidly the world changes, a diverse learning environment is needed that establishes desirable human relationships and recognizes community consciousness and values. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of general children(elementary school 4th, 5th, and 6th graders) on the communication and peer relationship of the children participating in the archery experiential learning program, to emphasize the importance of physical activity programs, and also by analyzing the relationship between communication and improvement of peer relationship and to understand the effect of the archery experiential training learning which is one of exercise program. In order to verify the research problems, 30 experimental group and 30 comparative group were composed of 4th, 5th, and 6th grade elementary schools in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju metropolitan city. The experiment group was participated in the archery experiential learning program for a total of 10 sessions, once a week for 60 minutes, and conducted a questionnaire survey. In this study, we examined the effect of archery experiential learning program on improving children 's communication and peer relationship ability. • Recently, interest in safety education based on VR has been increasing, but it started rising doubts are growing over its effectiveness. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis project is to research the current status of safety education contents based on VR and present situations and future prospects for safety education based on VR. As a result of researching about safety education contents using VR, the movement or condition of characters in the contents in the VR environment was very unnatural. Especially, in simulations such as driving a VR device, the controller was skeptical about its efficiency because the operation was different from the actual environment. As a result, we would like to make suggestions and forecasts as follows: First, the production of real and twin environment in VR should be realized. Second, the natural movement of the character should be performed. Third, various controllers should be released in VR devices. Fourth, a realistic scenario should be developed.
