  • We've been following research on the obstacle avoidance that is based on fuzzy control. We previously proposed a new method of automatically generating membership functions, which play an important role in improving accuracy of fuzzy control, by using genetic programming (GP). In this paper, we made two improvements to our proposed method, for the purpose of achieving better intelligence in fuzzy robots. First, the mutation rate is made to change dynamically, according to the coupled chaotic system. Secondly, the population partitioning using deme is introduced by parallel processing. The effectiveness of these improvements is demonstrated through several computer simulations.

  • In this study, we show the numerical and the experimental results for fluid motions inside a rectangular container subjected to a background rotation added by a rotational oscillation. In the numerical computation, we used a parallel computer system of PC-cluster type. Attention is given to dependence of the flow patterns on the parameter change. It shows that the flow becomes in a periodic state at low Reynolds numbers and undergoes a transition to a chaotic motion at high Reynolds numbers. It also shows that the fluid motion tends to be depth-independent at ${\epsilon}$ up to 0.3 for Re lower than 5235.

  • It is known that the kneading matrix associated with a continuous piecewise monotone self-map of an interval contains crucial combinatorial information of the map and all its iterates, however for every iterate of such a map we can associate its kneading matrix. In this paper, we describe the relation between kneading matrices of maps and their iterates for a family of chaotic maps. We also give a new definition for the kneading matrix and describe the relationship between the corresponding determinant and the usual kneading determinant of such maps.

  • The paper treats the nonlinear robust control of Chua's circuit having Chuar's diode as an element based on the internal model principle. The Chua's diode has unknown nonlinear parameters and the circuits parameters are alos assumend unknown. Nonlinear regulator equations are established to obtain 3-fold equilibrium equations on which the output error is zero. Also an internal model of the 3-fold exosystem is constructed for obtaining the control law. Pole Placement method is used for obtaining the feeback control law. Simulation results are presented for tracking the sinusoidal and constant reference input signal. Asymptotic trajectory control and the suppression of chaotic motion in spite of uncertainties in the system are accomplished.

  • We investigated the effect of Qi therapy (QT) on peripheral blood pressure (PBP), glucose, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and cortisol concentrations. Fourteen college students participated in receiving QT and placebo treatment. There were significant differences in embedding dimension of PBP. Plasma cortisol concentrations during QT were significantly lower than during control sessions (P

  • This paper describes the vibration characteristic of second-order nonlinear systems subjected to parametric excitation. Emphasis is put on the examination of the hydrodynamic nonlinear damping effect on limiting the response amplitudes of parametric vibration. Since the parametric vibration is described by the Mathieu equation, the Mathieu stability chart is examined in this paper. In addition, the steady-state solutions of the nonlinear Mathieu equation in the first instability region are obtained by using a perturbation technique and are compared with those by a numerical integration method. It is shown that the response amplitudes of parametric vibration are limited even in unstable conditions by hydrodynamic nonlinear damping force. The largest reponse amplitude of parametric vibration occurs in the first instability region of Mathieu stability chart. The parametric excitation induces the response of a dynamic system to be subharmonic, superharmonic or chaotic according to their dynamic conditions.

  • The various methods have been studied to develop discriminant model for Pregnancy Induced Hypertension(PIH) as high risk pregnant. In this study, we adapt the approximate entropy which is the non-linear chaotic measuring method. Then, we develop the system to discriminant PIH pregnant using QUEST with S-PLUS.

  • Recently many parts of world suffer from chaotic weather, Many scientists believe that this is due to the human made green house emissions, mainly carbon-dioxide Apart from this various pollutants also affect the Earth's environment. These global changes could become a great threat to human survival on the Earth in the future. Therefore many countries are putting great efforts into the study on the global change. This research should take into account whole field of earth sciences, so it becomes interdisciplinary by nature. This will help us to understand the complicated and subtle nature system of the Earth.

  • In this paper, a method for the daily maximum load forecasting which uses a chaotic time series in power system and artificial neural network. We find the characteristics of chaos in power load curve and then determine a optimal embedding dimension and delay time. For the load forecast of one day ahead daily maximum power, we use the time series load data obtained in previous year. By using of embedding dimension and delay time, we construct a strange attractor in pseudo phase plane and the artificial neural network model trained with the attractor mentioned above. The one day ahead forecast errors are about 1.4% for absolute percentage average error.
