This paper describes real-time implementation of a multi-channel G.729A speech coder using a 16 bit fixed-point Digital Signal Processor (DSP) and its application to a Voice Mailing Service (VMS) system. TMS320C549 by Texas Instruments was used as a fixed point DSP chip and a 4 channel G.729A coder was implemented on the chip. The implemented coder required 14.5 MIPS for the encoder and 3.6 MIPS for the decoder at each channel. In addition, memories required by the coder were 9.88K words and 1.69K words for code and data sections, respectively. As a result, the developed VMS system that accommodates two DSP chips was able to support totally 8 channels. Experimental results showed that the our multi-channel coder passes all of test vectors provided by ITU-T.

Channel estimation in OFDM systems is usually carried out in frequency domain based on the least-squares (LS) method and the minimum mean-square error (MMSE) method with known pilot symbols. The LS estimator has a merit of low complexity but may suffer from the noise because it does not consider any noise effect in obtaining its solution. To enhance the noise immunity of the LS estimator, we consider estimation noise in time domain. Residual noise existing at the estimated channel coefficients in time domain could be reduced by reasonable selection of a threshold value. To achieve this, we propose a channel-estimation method based on a time-domain threshold which is a standard deviation of noise obtained by wavelet decomposition. Computer simulation shows that the estimation performance of the proposed method approaches to that of the known-channel case in terms of bit-error rates after the Viterbi decoder in overall SNRs.

With the rapid increase in data, saving storage space and improving the efficiency of data transmission have become critical issues, making the research on the efficiency of data compression technologies increasingly important. Lossless algorithms can precisely restore original data but have limited compression ratios, whereas lossy algorithms provide higher compression rates at the expense of some data loss. There has been active research in data compression using deep learning-based algorithms, especially the autoencoder model. This study proposes a new side-channel analysis data compressor utilizing autoencoders. This compressor achieves higher compression rates than Deflate while maintaining the characteristics of side-channel data. The encoder, using locally connected layers, effectively preserves the temporal characteristics of side-channel data, and the decoder maintains fast decompression times with a multi-layer perceptron. Through correlation power analysis, the proposed compressor has been proven to compress data without losing the characteristics of side-channel data.
This paper proposes an algorithm for the robust transmission of video in error Prone environment using multiple description codingby optimal split of DCT coefficients and rate-distortionoptimization framework. In MDC, a source signal is split Into several coded streams, which is called descriptions, and each description is transmitted to the decoder through different channel. Between descriptions, structured correlations are introduced at the encoder, and the decoder exploits this correlation to reconstruct the original signal even if some descriptions are missing. It has been shown that the MDC is more resilient than the singe description coding(SDC) against severe packet loss ratecondition. But the excessive redundancy in MDC, i.e., the correlation between the descriptions, degrades the RD performance under low PLR condition. To overcome this Problem of MDC, we propose a hybrid MDC method that controls the SDC/MDC switching according to channel condition. For example, the SDC is used for coding efficiency at low PLR condition and the MDC is used for the error resilience at high PLR condition. To control the SDC/MDC switching in the optimal way, RD optimization framework are used. Lagrange optimization technique minimizes the RD-based cost function, D+M, where R is the actually coded bit rate and D is the estimated distortion. The recursive optimal pet-pixel estimatetechnique is adopted to estimate accurate the decoder distortion. Experimental results show that the proposed optimal split of DCT coefficients and SD/MD switching algorithm is more effective than the conventional MU algorithms in low PLR conditions as well as In high PLR condition.

This paper describes the design of I/Q channel 12bit Digital-to-Analog Converter(DAC) which shows the conversion rate of 120MHz and the power supply of 3.3V with 0.35um CMOS n-well 1-poly 4-metal process for advanced wireless transceiver. The proposed DAC utilizes 4-bit thermometer decoder with 3 stages for minimum glitch energy and linearity error. Also, using a optimized 4bit thermometer decoder for the decrement of the chip area. Integral nonlinearity(INL) of ${\pm}1.6LSB$ and differential nonlinearity(DNL) of ${\pm}1.3LSB$ have been measured. In single tone test, the ENOB of the proposed 12bit DAC is 10.5bit and SFDR of 73dB(@ Fs=120MHz, Fin=1MHz) is measured, respectively. Dual-tone test SFDR is 61 dB (@ Fs=100MHz, Fin=1.5MHz, 2MHz). Glitch energy of 31 pV.s is measured. The converter consumes a total of 105mW from 3.3-V power supply.

Recently the emerging demands of the light-video encoder promotes lots of research efforts on DVC (Distributed Video Coding). As an appropriate video compression method, DVC has been studied, and Wyner-Ziv (WZ) video compression is its one representative structure. The WZ encoder splits the image into two kinds of frames, one is key frame which is compressed by conventional intra coding, and the other is WZ frame which is encoded by WZ coding. The WZ decoder decodes the key frame first, and estimates the WZ frame using temporal correlation between key frames. Estimated WZ frame (Side Information) cannot be the same as the original WZ frame due to the absence of the WZ frame information at decoder. As a result, the difference between the estimated and original WZ frames are regarded as virtual channel noise. The WZ frame is reconstructed by removing noise in side information. Therefore precise noise estimation produces good performance gain in WZ video compression by improving error correcting capability by channel code. But noise cannot be estimated precisely at WZ decoder unless there is good WZ frame information, and generally it is estimated from the difference of corresponding key frames. Also the estimated noise is limited by comparing with frame level noise to reduce the uncertainty of the estimation method. However these methods cannot provide good noise estimation for every frame or each bit plane. In this paper, we propose a noise nodel selection method which chooses a better noise model for each bit plane after generating candidate noise models. Experimental result shows PSNR gain up to 0.8 dB.

For orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), cyclic prefix (CP) should be longer than the length of channel impulse response. In order to prevent a loss of bandwidth efficiency due to the use of a CP, residual intersymbol interference cancellation (RISIC) method has recently been developed. In this paper, we first apply the RISIC algorithm to the space-time block coded (STBC) OFDM and the space-frequency block coded (SFBC) OFDM with insufficient CP. It is shown that in the STBC OFDM, tail cancellation as well as cyclic restoration of the RISIC should be repeated. Second, we propose iterative channel estimation method for the RISIC in the STBC OFDM system with insufficient CP. Based on the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm, the proposed estimation method exploits the extrinsic probabilities of the channel decoder iteratively. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by computer simulation in a multipath fading environment.

Recently, lots of research works have been actively focused on the DVC (Distributed Video Coding) techniques which provide a theoretical basis for the implementation of light video encoder. However, most of these studies have showed poorer performances than the conventional standard video coding schemes such as MPEG-1/2, MPEG-4, H.264 etc. In order to overcome the performance limits of the conventional approaches, several channel-divided distributed video coding schemes have been designed in such a way that some information are obtained while generating side information at decoder side and then these are provided to the encoder side, resulting in channel-divided video coding scheme. In this paper, the interpolation scheme by weighted sum of multiple motion-compensated interpolation frames is introduced and a new channel-divided DVC scheme is designed to effectively describe noisy channels based on the motion vector and its matching characteristics. Through several simulations, it is shown that the proposed method performs better than the conventional methods at low bit-rate and keeps the reconstructed visual quality constantly.

In this paper we consider technological requirements to broadcast digital television signals using single frequency networks (SFN) in the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) transmission systems and propose equalization digital on-channel repeater (EDOCR) that overcomes the limitations of conventional digital on-channel repeaters (DOCRs). Since there are no forward error correction (FEC) decoder and encoder, the EDOCR does not have an ambiguity problem. In addition, since an adaptive equalizer in the EDOCR removes multi-path signals, additive white Gaussian noise (A WGN), and feedback signal due to low antenna isolation, the EDOCR may have good output signal quality with high power.
In network delivery of compressed video, packets may be lost if the channel is unreliable like Internet. Such losses tend to of cur in burst like continuous bit-stream error. In this paper, we propose an effective error-concealment approach to which an error resilient video encoding approach is applied against burst errors and which reduces a complexity of error concealment at the decoder using data hiding. To improve the performance of error concealment, a temporal and spatial error resilient video encoding approach at encoder is developed to be robust against burst errors. For spatial area of error concealment, block shuffling scheme is introduced to isolate erroneous blocks caused by packet losses. For temporal area of error concealment, we embed parity bits in content data for motion vectors between intra frames or continuous inter frames and recovery loss packet with it at decoder after transmission While error concealment is performed on error blocks of video data at decoder, it is computationally costly to interpolate error video block using neighboring information. So, in this paper, a set of feature are extracted at the encoder and embedded imperceptibly into the original media. If some part of the media data is damaged during transmission, the embedded features can be extracted and used for recovery of lost data with bi-direction interpolation. The use of data hiding leads to reduced complexity at the decoder. Experimental results suggest that our approach can achieve a reasonable quality for packet loss up to 30% over a wide range of video materials.
