In this paper, we explore a low-complex bandwidth allocation (BA) scheme with multi-level service guarantees in VLC-OFDM systems. Effective capacity theory, which evaluates wireless channel capacity from a novel view, is utilized to model the system capacity under delay QoS constraints of the link layer. Since intensity modulation of light is used in the system, problems caused by frequency selectivity can be neglected. Then, the BA problem can be formulated as an integer programming problem and it is further relaxed and transformed into a concave one. Lagrangian formulation is used to reformulate the concave problem. Considering the inefficiency of traditional gradient-based schemes and the demand for distributed implementation in local area networks, we localize the global parameters and propose a quasi-distributed quadratic allocation algorithm to provide two-level service guarantees, the first level is QoS oriented, and the second level is QoE oriented. Simulations have shown the efficient performance of the proposed algorithm. The users with more stringent QoS requirements require more subcarriers to guarantee their statistical delay QoS requirements. We also analyze the effect of subcarrier granularity on the aggregate effective capacity via simulations.
Most of the conventional electrocardiogaphies fail to detect signals other than P-QRS-T due to the limited SNR and bandwidth. High-resolution electrocardiography (HRECG) provides better SNR and wider bandwidth for the detection of micro-potentials with higher frequency components such as ventricual late potentials(LP). In this paper, we developed a HRECG using uncorrected XYZ lead. The overall gain of the amplifier is 4000 and the bandwidth is $0.5{\sim}300Hz$ without using 60Hz notch filter. Three 16-bit AH converters sample X, Y, and Z signals simultaneously with a sampling frequency of 2000Hz. Sampled data are transmitted to PC via a DMA-controlled serial communication channel using RS-485 and HDLC protocol. The noise level of the developed HRECG is less than $5{\mu}V_{rms,\;RTI}$. In order to further reduce the noise level, signal averaging technique is implemented utilizing template matching method. The SNR of the developed HRECG is high enough for the detection of LP.

This paper proposes a new measurement method for the effective measurement of the 99% occupied bandwidth (OBW) at monitoring stations. Although the OBW measurement of radio signal is recommended by the International Telecommunication Union Radio (ITU-R) with several methods, there still does not exist a clear measurement recommendation or standard for terrestrial DTV signal on-air environment. Modified adjacent channel power ratio (MACPR), which can be applied to 8-VSB (Vestigial Side Band) DTV (Digital Television) signal, is herein defined to verify the results of measurements obtained using the proposed measurement method. MACPR is a proper measuring parameter for determining the measuring area of a monitoring station. From measurement results obtained in real field environment, it has been found that the OBW of 8-VSB DTV signal can be effectively measured in areas where the MACPR value is over 35 dB and when the measurements are repeated more than 600 times in the same reception site. It also has been verified that measured results are within an error range of +/-0.1% compared to results directly obtained at a transmission station. It is expected that the proposed method is able to be employed in order to determine the proper location of monitoring station and provide a reliable OBW measurement procedure for 8-VSB DTV signal on-air environment.

In this paper, we propose an UCC broadcasting system in P2P based IPTV environments. Proposed system applies P2P based multiple chain architecture. UCC broadcasting system transfers data from not ISP server but UCC server peer that is included in DSLAM to joined peers. Therefore an algorithm to manage join and departure of peers have to modified. In this paper we propose an algorithm that does not increase an uplink bandwidth of DSLAM that include UCC server when peer joins to the UCC channel. We will show the improved performance of proposed scheme rather than general method with respect to the uplink bandwidth of DSLAM that include UCC server.
Adaptive modulation and coding (AMC), which has a number of variation levels in accordance with the fading channel variation, is a promising technique for communication systems. In this paper, we present an AMC method using the cluster in OFDM system for bandwidth efficiency and performance improvement. The AMC schemes applied into each cluster or some clusters are determined by the minimum or the average SNR value among all the sub carriers within the corresponding cluster. It is important to find the optimal information on cluster because AMC performance can be varied according to the number and position of cluster. It is shown by computer simulation that the AMC method outperforms the fixed modulation in terms of bandwidth efficiency and its performance can be determined by the position and number of clusters.

In this paper proposes a multi-carrier MFSK-DPSK/DS-CDMA combined modulation techniques in Nakagami fading environment. Also, multi-carrier DS-CDMA combined system is a promising technique for mobile communications systems, since it has a strong immunity to multipath fading and increasing bandwidth efficiency. The modulations under consideration are noncoherent M-ary frequency shift keying (MFSK)and an MFSK based joint frequency phase modulation utilizing differential phase shift keying (DPSK). With the result, performance improvement of power efficiency and bandwidth efficiency combined system in multi-carrier MFSK-DPSK/DS-CDMA are better then conventional communication system.

In wireless ad-hoc network, knowing the available bandwidth of the time varying channel is imperative for live video streaming applications. This is because the available bandwidth is varying all the time and strictly limited against the large data size of video streaming. Additionally, adapting the encoding rate to the suitable bit-rate for the network, where an overlarge encoding rate induces congestion loss and playback delay, decreases the loss and delay. While some effective rate controlling methods have been proposed and simulated well like VTP (Video Transport Protocol) [1], implementing to cooperate with the encoder and tuning the parameters are still challenging works. In this paper, we show our result of the implementation experiment of VTP based encoding rate controlling method and then introduce some techniques of our parameter tuning for a video streaming application over wireless environment.

Estimation of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is an important problem in wireless communication systems. It has been studied for various constellation types and channels using different estimation techniques. Maximum likelihood estimation is a technique which provides efficient and in most cases unbiased estimators. In this paper, we have applied maximum likelihood estimation for systems employing square or cross QAM signals which are undergoing slow flat Rayleigh fading. The problem has been considered under various scenarios like data-aided (DA), non-data-aided (NDA) and partially data-aided (PDA) and the performance of each type of estimator has been evaluated and compared. It has been observed that the performance of DA estimator is best due to usage of pilot symbols, with the drawback of greater bandwidth consumption. However, this can be catered for by using partially data-aided estimators whose performance is better than NDA systems with some extra bandwidth requirement.

In this paper we analyze convergence constraints and time constant of IT-LMS algorithm and derive a method of making it's time constant independent of signal power by using input variance estimation. The method for estimating the input variance is to use a single-pole low-pass filter(LPF) with common smoothing parameter value, θ. The estimator is with narrow bandwidth for large θ but with wide bandwidth for small θ. This small θ gives long term average estimation(low frequency) of the fluctuating input variance well as short term variations (high frequency) of the input power. In our simulations of multipath communication channel equalization environments, the method with large θ has shown not as much improved convergence speed as the speed of the original IT-LMS algorithm. The proposed method with small θ=0.01 reach its minimum MSE in 100 samples whereas the IT-LMS converges in 200 samples. This shows the proposed, tap-power normalized IT-LMS algorithm can be applied more effectively to digital wireless communication systems.
The binary clipping PW/CDMA system is considered. This system can be constructed with effective cost. leading to reduce the influence of the non-linear amplifier because of converting multi-level signals into constant envelope signals. In addition, the clipping method which is to clip out signal amplitude at some level when multi-level signals are converted into constant envelope signals is used. The multi-level signals are clipped at 1 and -1 to limit the extension of bandwidth and to maintain the bandwidth after clipping. In this paper, the performance of the binary clipping PW/CDMA system with the non-linear amplifier analyzed by simulation over AWGN and flat fading channels respectively. The binary clipping PW/CDMA system with the non-linear amplifier is 2.2dB and 0.9dB better than conventional DS/CDMA system over the flat fading channels when the number of users are 9 and 17 respectively.
