This study was performed to evaluate the reproducibility of natural head position according to skeletal malocclusion types and sex using cephalometric radiographs for establishing orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. The sample consisted of 90 young adults (male 45, female 45) who had the skeletal malocclusion. Cephalometric radiographs were taken in natural head position, and statistical analysis was performed and method error of 6 postural variables were estimated to evaluate the reproducibility of the natural head position. The following results were obtained : 1. In the reproducibility of the natural head position, postural variables had no statistical significance In male and female (P>0.05). 2. In the reproducibility of the natural head position, postural variables had no statistical significance in Class I, II, III, and total group (P>0.05). 3. The reproducibility of natural head position using method error was excellent in all groups.
This study was made with lateral cephalometric radiography of 28 skeletal class III malocclusion patients that were performed to setback surgery of mandible. The 28 patients were selected by four standards as follows. 1) Set-back amount of mandible is below 10 mm 2) No extrusion and intrusion of posterior tooth or alteration of interincisial angle at period of postoperative orthodontic treatment. 3) Change of mesial segment location of mandible on lateral cephalometrics 4) No genioplasty And 28 patients were divided to three group(1,2,3 group) by degree of preoperative occlusal plane angle to Burstone's horizontal plane. The preoperative occlusal plane angle, which of 1 group was smaller than $7^{\circ}$ and 2 group was between $7^{\circ}$ to $15^{\circ}$ and 3 group was larger than $15^{\circ}$. The results were as follows : 1. As the preoperative occlusal plane angle was larger, the degree of mandibular prognathism was not severe. 2. On comparsion of preoperative and immediate postoperative cephalometric analysis, specific relationship of occlusal plane angle and set-back amount of mandible was not present. 3. As the preoperative occlusal plane angle was smaller, the alteration of postoperative occlusal plane angle was increased tendency. As the preoperative occlusal plane angle was larger, the alteration of postoperative occlusal plane angle was decreased tendency. 4. The relapsed degree of B point distance to Vertical plane was not relationship to the degree of preoperative occlusal plane angle.
Objective: To evaluate the long-term effects of self-ligating brackets (SLBs) on transverse dimensions of arches and skeletal and soft tissues and to quantitatively evaluate the treatment outcome after non-extraction treatment with SLBs. Methods: The sample consisted of 24 (18 female and six male) subjects, with a mean age of $14.23{\pm}2.19$ years, who received treatment with the Damon$^{(R)}$3 appliances. Complete records including cephalometric radiographs and plaster models were obtained before treatment (T1), immediately after treatment (T2), six months after treatment (T3), and two years (T4) after treatment. Digital study models were generated. Twenty lateral cephalometric, six frontal cephalometric, and eight dental cast measurements were examined. The Peer Assessment Rating index was used to measure the treatment outcome. The Wilcoxon test was applied for statistical analysis of the changes. Results: There were significant increases in all transverse dental cast measurements with active treatment. There was some significant relapse in the long term, particularly in maxillary width (p < 0.05). Statistically significant increases were found in nasal (p < 0.001), maxillary base, upper molar, lower intercanine, and antigonial (p < 0.05) widths in T1-T2. Lower incisors were proclined and protruded in T1-T2. Conclusions: SLBs correct crowding by mechanisms involving incisor proclination and protrusion and expansion of the dental arches, without induction of clinically significant changes in hard and soft tissues of the face.

Objective: To evaluate the accuracy of a multi-stage convolutional neural network (CNN) model-based automated identification system for posteroanterior (PA) cephalometric landmarks. Methods: The multi-stage CNN model was implemented with a personal computer. A total of 430 PA-cephalograms synthesized from cone-beam computed tomography scans (CBCT-PA) were selected as samples. Twenty-three landmarks used for Tweemac analysis were manually identified on all CBCT-PA images by a single examiner. Intra-examiner reproducibility was confirmed by repeating the identification on 85 randomly selected images, which were subsequently set as test data, with a two-week interval before training. For initial learning stage of the multi-stage CNN model, the data from 345 of 430 CBCT-PA images were used, after which the multi-stage CNN model was tested with previous 85 images. The first manual identification on these 85 images was set as a truth ground. The mean radial error (MRE) and successful detection rate (SDR) were calculated to evaluate the errors in manual identification and artificial intelligence (AI) prediction. Results: The AI showed an average MRE of 2.23 ± 2.02 mm with an SDR of 60.88% for errors of 2 mm or lower. However, in a comparison of the repetitive task, the AI predicted landmarks at the same position, while the MRE for the repeated manual identification was 1.31 ± 0.94 mm. Conclusions: Automated identification for CBCT-synthesized PA cephalometric landmarks did not sufficiently achieve the clinically favorable error range of less than 2 mm. However, AI landmark identification on PA cephalograms showed better consistency than manual identification.
Analysis of lateral cephalometric radiograph (cephalogram) has been used routinely to evaluate skeletal and dental relationships, but analysis of the lateral facial photograph has not been used frequently for evaluation of skeletal relationships. As concerns about harm of X-ray irradiation increases, this study was planned to evaluate the possibility of substituting analysis of the lateral cephalogram with analysis of the lateral facial photograph by comparing these two analyses. According to the ANB values from cephalometric analysis, subjects were divided into three groups: Class I malocclusion group (n=32). Class II malocclusion group (n=32), and Class III malocclusion group (n=31). After measurements of angles indicating horizontal and vertical relationships of the maxilla and mandible on the lateral cephalograms and photographs, differences between Class I, II and III groups were evaluated. To evaluate the similarity between two similar values in the cephalograms and photographs, t-test using standardized variable Z and correlation analysis were performed in the Class I malocclusion group. The results showed that 1) SnN'Pg' on the photograph can be used to evaluate the antero-posterior relationship of the maxilla and mandible (ANB), 2) N'-Sn/Sn-Pg' on the photograph can be used to evaluate facial convexity (NA/APg), 3) Sn-Tra-Me' on the photograph can be used as a measurement similar to FMA. In conclusion, partly substituting lateral cephalogram analysis with lateral facial photograph analysis was possible in the evaluation of the maxilla and mandible.

This study was performed to evaluate soft tissue cephalometric norms for Korean adults which can be implemented in surgical orthodontic treatment planning using selected horizontal reference plane especially for Koreans (Male: $SN-7.5^{\circ}$, Female: $SN-9.0^{\circ}$) and a simplified analytical method. 70 males and 70 females consisting of freshmen of Yonsei University from 1996 to 1997 and students from the Dental College of Yonsei University were chosen according to clinical examination and cephalometric analysis. The samples had normal profiles, normal anteroposterior skeletal relationship(ANB angle of $0^{\circ}\;to\;4^{\circ}$ and Wits appraisal of -4.0mm to 0mm), and Class I molar and canine relationship. They had no missing or supernumerary teeth and had no experience of orthodontic or prosthetic treatment. After the selection of 15 soft tissue landmarks and the construction of horizontal and vertical reference lines, 25 measurements were taken. These consisted of vertical and horizontal linear measurements and angular measurements. The results were as follows. 1. Mean and standard deviation of the measurements were calculated in males and females. 2. Vertical measurements were comparably bigger in males than females whereas anterior facial height ratio(sN-Sn/Sn-sMe) and lower anterior facial height ratio(Sn-Stms/Stmi-sMe) showed no significant difference between sexes. 3. Most of the horizontal measurements in relation to the vertical reference line(G-perpendicular) showed no significant difference between sexes. 4. Nasofacial angle, columellar angle, nasolabial angle and facial contour angle showed no significant difference between sexes. 5. The upper and lower lip were positioned about $-1.0{\pm}2.0mm$ and $+1.0{\pm}2.0mm$ in relation to the Ricketts' esthetic line in both sexes. In this study, soft tissue cephalometric norms of Korean adults for orthognathic surgery were obtained.

Whereas anterior facial height ratio(N-ANS/ANS-Me) as well as maxillary and mandibular antero-posterior position in relation to the vertical reference line(N-perpendicular) showed no signigicant difference between sexes. 3. Maxillary and mandibular dental antero-posterior position in relation to the vertical reference line(N-perpendicular) showed no significant difference between sexes. 4. The upper incisor show(U1-Stms) was $2.1{\pm}1.7mm$ in males and $3.3{\pm}1.7mm$ in females. In this study, hard tissue cephalometric norms of Korean adults for orthognathic surgery were obtained.
The purpose of this study was to examine soft tissue and hardtissue changes following orthognathic surgery in patients with mandibular prognathism lateral cephalometric films were obtained immediate before surgery, 48 hours following surgery, and 6 months following surgery. 18 patients were selected (10 men, and 6 women) for this study, who had received orthognathic surgery. Statistical analysis for the each time interval differences were performed with the SPSS package The results were as follows, *In the cases of mandibular sagittal split osteotomy 1 LI point was moved backward (average 7.55mm) 48 hours following surgery. 6 months later, it was returned forward (average 1.1mm) Relapse rate was 14.6% 2 Pog was moved backward (average 8.3mm) 48 hours following surgery The ratio of horizontal change of soft tissue to hard tissue at pog is 0.95 1 *In the cases of maxillary Le-Fort I osteotomy & mandibular sagittal split osteotomy. 3. A point was moved forward (average 3.31mm) 48 hours following surgery. 6 months later, it was returned backward (average 0.31) Relapse rate was 9 4% 4 6 months later, the ratio of facial convexity angle change of soft tissue to hard tissue is 0.63 1.
Upon analyzing the literature, it becomes apparent that norms for orthodontic diagnosis were from normal occlusion with pleasing face, and that the form and size of craniofacial skeleton were different between racial or ethnic groups. Therefore, this study was intended to establish Korean adult norms be useful for diagnosing the cases and to compare those to other ethnic or racial groups. Lateral cephalometric radiographs were taken of ninety-one Korean adults with normal occlusion showing pleasing face consisted in forty-three males and forty-eight females. The subjects ranged in age from seventeen to twenty-six years. The tracings involved measurements that were analyzed with a digitizer. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows, 1. Norms of Korean adult males, females, and combined sexes were established. 2 It was found that in the form and shape of craniofacial skeleton, there were no significant differences between males and females, but in the size males were larger than females 3. There were a great variation between ethnic or racial groups in the measurements of craniofacial skeleton 4 The size of Korean cranial base was smaller than the American Caucasian. 5 The maxilla and mandible of Korean were less protruded than those of the other ethnic groups 6 The dental pattern of Korean were more proclined than that of the American Caucasian and less protruded than that of the American Negro and the North Indian.
The author has carried out the statistical standards on liner and angular measurements of sells turcica in 244 normal Korean of various age group by means of lateral cephalometric radiography. The results were as follows; 1. The linear measurements between Ant-Post distance and distance from the tip of tuberculum of sellae to posterior clinoid process were obtained 14.81mm, 9.85mm in the age of 5 years old male and 14.44mm, 9.52mm in female, respectively. There was no outstanding difference with age, but more predominant in female than male. 2. The linear measurements of inferior depth show somewhat increases but no changes in superior depth. 3. It has been showed that the greatest width revealed significant increment beyond 15 years old of both sexes in Korean. 4. None of the significant difference in angular measurement was found with age, but angulation for dorsum sellae decreased after 15 years of male. 5. Generally speaking, increment rates of female in each items were greater than male.
