  • To develop an advanced non-linear curve fitting (NLCF) algorithm for performing dynamic susceptibility contrast study of the brain. The first pass effects give rise to spuriously high estimates of $K^{trans}$ for the voxels that represent the large vascular components. An explicit threshold value was used to reject voxels. The blood perfusion and volume estimation were accurately evaluated in the $T2^*$-weighted dynamic contrast enhanced (DCE)-MR images. From each of the recalculated parameters, a perfusion weighted image was outlined by using the modified non-linear curve fitting algorithm. The present study demonstrated an improvement of an estimation of the kinetic parameters from the DCE $T2^*$-weighted magnetic resonance imaging data with using contrast agents.

  • The worldwide transition from analog to digital broadcasting has now been completed and the need to study next generation standards for Ultra High Definition TV (UHDTV) broadcasting, and broadcasting & communication convergence systems is rapidly growing. In particular, high resolution mobile broadcasting services are needed to satisfy recent consumers. Therefore, the development of highly efficient convergence broadcasting systems that provide fixed/mobile broadcasting through a single channel is needed. In this paper, a service scenario and requirements for providing 4K UHD & HD convergence broadcasting services through a terrestrial single channel are analyzed by employing the latest transmission and A/V codec technologies. Optimized transmission parameters for 6 MHz & 8 MHz terrestrial bandwidths are drawn, and receiving performances are measured under Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) and time-varying multipath channels. From the results, in a 6 MHz bandwidth, the reliable receiving of HD layer data can be achieved when the receiver velocity is maximum 140 Km/h and is not achieved when the velocity is over 140 Km/h due to the limit of bandwidth. When the bandwidth is extended to 8 MHz, the reliable receiving of both 4K UHD and HD layer data is achieved under a very fast fading multipath channel.

  • The purpose of this study provides measurements of radiation dose from MDCT of head, chest, abdomen and pelvic examinations. A series of dose quantities that are measured of patient weight to compare the dose received during MDCT examinations. Data collected included: weight together with CT dose descriptors, volume CT dose index (CTDIvol) and dose length product (DLP). The effective dose was also estimated and served as collective dose estimation data. Data from 1,774 adult patients attending for a CT examination of the head (n=520) or chest (n=531) or abdomen (n=724) was obtained from spiral CT units using a same CT protocol. Mean values of CTDIvol was a range of 48.6 mGy for head and 6.9, 10.5 mGy for chest, abdomen examinations, respectively. And mean values of DLP was range of 1,604 $mGy{\cdot}cm$ for head, 250 $mGy{\cdot}cm$ for chest, 575 $mGy{\cdot}cm$ for abdomen examinations, respectively. Mean effective dose values for head, chest, abdominal CT were 3.6, 4.2, and 8.6 mSv, respectively. The degree of CTDIvol and DLP was a positive correlation with weight. And there was a positive correlation for weight versus CTDIvol ($r^2$=0.62), DLP ($r^2$=0.694) in chest. And head was also positive correlation with weight versus CTDIvol ($r^2$=0.691), DLP ($r^2$=0.741). We conclude that CTDIvol and DLP is an important determinant of weight within the CT examinations. The results for this study suggest that CT protocol should be tailored according to patient weight.

  • The chemical components of 5 domestic wheats(Kru, Suwon 257, Eunpa, Chokwang and Tapdong), Australian standard white wheat(ASW) and dark northern spring wheat(DNS) were determined in terms of amino acids, sugars and minerals for whole wheat and white wheat flour of 70% milling yield. The protein content of whole Eunpa and Tapdong was approximately 15%, and reduced its content approximately 1% after milling compared to that of whole wheats. The high levels of glutamic acid and proline were observed in domestic wheats. The limiting amino acid of domestic wheat was higher than that of ASW, but lower than that of DNS. Especially, Suwon 257 and Tapdong exhibited the higher limiting amino acid content than other domestic wheats. Glutamic acid and proline content increased, while lysine and threonine was decreased after milling. In general, whole wheat exhibited the higher levels of arabinose and xylose, and the lower level of glucose than flour. The results also showed domestic wheat contained the higher amount of arabinose and xylose than the foreign wheats. Domestic wheat and flour possessed the higher amount of mineral such as P, K, Na and Ca than ASW and DNS, while Al and Si were similar to others.

  • Objective : The aim of this study was to identify correlation between KF-NAP and Pencil-Paper test(Line bisection test, Letter cancellation, Albert's test) and to determine the high sensitive assessment tool for spatial neglect. Method : Thirty-two stroke patients who admitted to an inpatient rehabilitation unit at the medical center in Seoul from September, 2014 to September, 2015 were included in our research. They all have spatial neglect (male=19, female=13, the average age 61.8). KF-NAP and Pencil-Paper test were performed within 7 days. The detection of spatial neglect was analyzed by total scores of each assessments. Results : The highest sensitivity assessments of spatial neglect was KF-NAP. The detection of spatial neglect through KF-NAP was 93.8% (Line bisection test 53.1, Letter cancellation 53.1%, Albert's test 37.5%). Line bisection test (r=.430), Letter cancellation(r=.641), Albert's test(r=.398) and KF-NAP scores had significant correlation(p<0.05). Conclusion : KF-NAP is higher sensitive in comparison with Pencil-Paper test for detection of spatial neglect as the assessment tool of spatial neglect during activities daily livings of patients and neglect severity could be assessed with KF-NAP. Therefore, KF-NAP is recommended for assessment of spatial neglect.

  • Information on sunshine duration and solar radiation are indispensable to the understanding of crop growth and development. Yet, relevant variables are not available in the Korea Meteorological Administration's (KMA) digital forecast. We proposed the methods of estimating sunshine duration and solar radiation based on the 'sky condition' of digital forecast products and validated using the observed data. The sky condition values (1 for clear, 2 for partly cloudy, 3 for cloudy, and 4 for overcast) were collected from 22 weather stations at 3-hourly intervals from August 2013 to July 2015. According to the observed relationship, these data were converted to the corresponding amount of clouds on the 0 to 10 scale (0 for clear, 4 for partly cloudy, 7 for cloudy, and 10 for overcast). An equation for the cloud amount-sunshine duration conversion was derived from the 3-year observation data at three weather stations with the highest clear day sunshine ratio (i.e., Daegwallyeong, Bukgangneung, and Busan). Then, the estimated sunshine hour data were used to run the Angstrom-Prescott model which was parameterized with the long-term KMA observations, resulting in daily solar radiation for the three weather stations. Comparison of the estimated sunshine duration and solar radiation with the observed at those three stations showed that the root mean square error ranged from 1.5 to 1.7 hours for sunshine duration and from 2.5 to $3.0MJ\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$ for solar radiation, respectively.

  • Wet canopy evaporation ($E_{WC}$) has been recognized as a significant component of total evapotranspiration, especially in forests and therefore it is critical to accurately assess $E_{WC}$ to understand forest hydrological cycle. In this review, I focused on the measurement methods and evaluating the magnitudes of $E_{WC}$ at diverse forest types (e.g., deciduous, coniferous, mixed, and rain forests). I also present the general issues to be considered for $E_{WC}$ measurements. The commonly used measurement methods for $E_{WC}$ include the water balance, energy balance, and the Penman-Monteith (PM) methods. The magnitudes of $E_{WC}$ ranged from 5 to 54% of precipitation based on the literature review, showing a large variation even for a similar forest type possibly related to canopy structure, rainfall intensity, and other meteorological conditions. Therefore, it is difficult to draw a general conclusion on the contribution of $E_{WC}$ to evapotranspiration from a particular forest type. Errors can arise from the measurements of precipitation (due to varying wind effect) and throughfall (due to spatial variability caused by canopy structure) for water balance method, the measurements of sensible heat flux and heat storage for energy balance method, and the estimation of aerodynamic conductance and unaccounted sensible heat advection for the PM method. For a reliable estimation of $E_{WC}$, the combination of ecohydrological and micrometeorological methods is recommended.

  • Purpose: To study the clinical and radiologic results with arthroscopic Bankart repair using knotless metal suture anchor. Materials and Methods: From February 2001 to January 2005, 68 patients, who underwent arthroscopic Bankart repair using knotless suture anchor and were followed up more than 12 months, were evaluated. A mean follow-up period was 34 months. All shoulders were evaluated by Rowe scoring system, range of motion of the shoulder, pain degree of VAS, and This was compared by radiologic findings after surgery. Results: The Rowe scoring system was 43.30 preoperatively, which improved to 95.55 postoperatively. At last follow-up, there was no significance difference between operated shoulder and non-operated shoulder in range of motion. The degree of VAS was measured from 3.3 preoperatively to 0.5 postoperatively. The radiolucent line was shown around suture anchor in 15 shoulders. 2 shoulders of 15 shoulders were reoperated due to redislocation and anchor arthropathy. In Odds ratio, this group (15 patients) had more 2.6 times the subjective instability than other group (53 patients). Conclusion: Arthroscopic Bankart repair using knotless anchor suture is very effective operative technique. But we have to be careful because the radiolucent line around anchor showed up during a follow -up period may indicate poor prognosis.
