Cyclic triaxial and resonant column tests were conducted to understand the beneficial effects of various grouted sands on liquefaction resistance and dynamic properties. The test procedures were performed on a variety of grouted sands, such as silicate-grouted sand, silicate-cement grouted sand and cement-grouted sand. For each type of grout, sand specimen was mixed with a 3.5% and 5% grout by volume. The specimens were tested at a curing age of 3, 7, 28 and 91 days, and the results of the cyclic stress ratio, the maximum shear modulus and the damping ratio were obtained during the testing program. The influence of important parameters, including the type of grout, grout content, shear strain, confining pressure, and curing age, were investigated. Results indicated that sodium silicate grout does not improve the liquefaction resistance and shear modulus; however, silicate-cement and cement grout remarkably increased the liquefaction resistance and shear modulus. Shear modulus decreased and damping ratio increased with an increase in the amplitude of shear strain. The effect of confining pressure on clean sand and sodium silicate grouted sand was found to be insignificant. Furthermore, a nonlinear regression analysis was used to prove the agreement of the shear modulus-shear strain relation presented by the hyperbolic law for different grouted sands, and the coefficients of determination, $R^2$, were nearly greater than 0.984.
For quality control and the economical design of grouted sand, the prior establishment of the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) estimating formula is very important. This study aims to develop an empirical UCS estimating formula for grouted sand based on the physical properties of sands and the UCS of cured pure grout. Four sands with varying particle sizes were grouted with both microfine cement and Ordinary Portland cement. Grouted specimens were prepared at three different relative densities and at three different water-to-cement ratios, and unconfined compression tests were performed. The results demonstrate that UCS of grouted sand can be expressed as the power function of the UCS of cured pure grout: $UCS_{grouted\;sand}/1MPa=A_{soil}{\cdot}(UCS_{pure}/1MPa)^N$. Because the exponent N strongly depends on the combination of pore area and pore size, N is expressed as the function of porosity (n) and specific surface ($S_a$). Additionally, because $S_a$ determines the area of the sand particle that cement particles can adsorb and n determines the number of cementation bondings between sand particles, $A_{soil}$ is also expressed as the function of n and $S_a$. Finally, the direct relationship between $A_{soil}$ and N is also investigated.

The shear behavior of sawtoothed artificial joints grouted with cement milk was investigated in the laboratory under constant normal stress conditions. Tests were conducted on joints with asperities having inclinations of 16.7$^{\circ}$ and 26.6$^{\circ}$, compresive strengths having 15MPa and 47MPa under a given range of normal stresses varying from 0.76 to 1.91 MPa and at a free condition of pitching, rolling and dilatancy. Results show that the effect of asperities on shear strength increase is significant up to asperity height to grout thickness (t/a) ratio of 0.3∼1.0. Increase of cohesion is the main cause of shear strength increase in cement grouted sawtoothed artificial joints.
In geological engineering, grouting with Portland cement is a common technique for ground improvement, during which micro-fine cement is applied as a slurry, such that it intrudes into soil voids and decreases soil porosity. To determine the utility and behavior of cements with different Blaine values (index of cement particle fineness) for stabilization of fine sand, non-destructive and destructive tests were employed, such as laser-ray determination of grain size distribution, and sedimentation, permeability, and compressive strength tests. The results of the experimental study demonstrated a suitable mix design for the upper and lower regions of the cement-grading curve that are important for grouting and stabilization. Increasing the fineness of the cement decreased the permeability and increased the compressive strength of grouted sand samples considerably after two weeks. Moreover, relative to finer (higher Blaine value) or coarser (lower Blaine value) cements, cement with a Blaine value of $5,100cm^2/g$ was optimal for void reduction in a grouted soil mass. Overall, study results indicate that cement with an optimum Blaine value can be used to satisfy the designed geotechnical criteria.
Grouting has been practiced as a reliable technique to improve the mechanical properties of rock mass. But, the study of ground improvement by greeting is rare especially in jointed rock mass. In this study, joint compression test and direct shear test were performed on pure rock joint and cement milk grouted rock joint to examine the grouting effect on the property of rock joint. In the pure rock joint compression test, joint closure varied non-linearly with normal stress. But after cement milk grouting, the normal deformation characteristics of the joint was linear at the low normal stress level. As normal stress increased. deformation of the sample rapidly increased due to the stress concentration at the joint asperities. Peak shear strength of the grouted joint in low normal stress was higher than that of non-grouted joint due to the cohesion, decreased exponetially as the grout thickness increased. Thus after cement milk grouting, the failure envelope modified to a curve that has cohesion due to grout material hydration with decreased friction angle. Shear stiffness and peak dilation angle of the grouted joint decreased as the grout thickness increased. The peak shear strength from the direct shear test on grouted rock joint was represented by an empirical equation as a fuction of grout thickness and roughness mean amplitude.
Cement-grouts are injected into limestone cavities beneath the road in the project area, in order to improve strength and reduce permeability; the extent to which grout has penetrated in cavities need to be monitored in order to determined effectiveness of cement-grout. Geophysical approaches, offer great potential for monitoring the grout injection process in a fast and cost-effective way as well as showing whether the grout has successfully achieved the target. This paper presents the ability of surface electrical resistivity to investigate the verification of the grout placement. In order to image the cement-grout, time-lapse surface electrical resistivity surveys were conducted to compare electrical resistivity images before and after injection. Cement-grout was imaged as anomalies exhibiting low resistivity than the surrounding rocks. In accordance with field monitoring, laboratory study was also designed to monitor the resistivity changes of cement-grout specimens with time-lapse. Time-lapse laboratory measurements indicated that electrical methods are good tool to identify the grouted zone. Pre-and post grouting electrical images showed significant changes in subsurface resistivity at grouted zone. The study showed that electrical resistivity imaging technology can be a useful tool for detecting and evaluating changes in subsurface resistivity due to the injection of the grout.
The unconfined compressive strength (UCS) test through coring is widely used to determine the reinforcement effect of the ground with grouting. However, the UCS test through coring can disturb the ground, is expensive and takes a lot of time to prepare the specimen. In this study, the factors affecting UCS of microfine cement grouted sand are evaluated and an empirical equation of UCS of microfine grouted sand is suggested. It is observed that UCS increases linearly until 28 days, however, the increasing rate of strength decreases sharply after that 28 days. The W/C ratio is dominant factor influencing UCS and UCS increases exponentially with the decrease of water/cement (W/C) ratio. Also, UCS increases linearly with increasing the relative density ranging from 30% to 70% and with decreasing median particle size. However, in case of W/C ratio=1 and K6 ($D_{50}=0.47mm$), UCS is lower than that of K4 ($D_{50}=1.08mm$) and K5 ($D_{50}=0.80mm$) due to filtration effect. Based on the experimental results, the empirical equation of UCS of microfine cement grouted sand can be expressed as the function of median particle size ($D_{50}$), porosity (n) and W/C ratio.

This paper aims to predict the corrosion of a fully cement-grouted rockbolt induced by chloride diffusion in a cement mortar grout. From the viewpoint of the long-term durability, a rockbolt may be deteriorated by chemical components, such as sulphate and chloride, in groundwater. Especially, the steel rod of a rockbolt is corroded mainly by chloride. The rockbolt corrosion results in the volume expansion of a rod and then the cracking of a cement grout. In this study, the chloride diffusion coefficient of a cement mortar grout was used to evaluate the possibility of rockbolt corrosion by chloride, and to predict the long-term durability of a rockbolt. The electric acceleration test method was adopted to measure the chloride diffusion coefficient. In addition, a simple pullout testing system was newly proposed to measure the pullout capacity of a rockbolt more easily in a laboratory condition. From the experiments, it was showed that the chloride could diffuse in the cement grout more easily than in ordinary concrete materials. As a result, it was considered that a rockbolt might be easily corroded in a short term by the diffusion of chemical components with high concentration, although it was fully grouted.
In this study, it is performed that mix design of grouting materials which high strength, durability and environmentally safe materials for 2 types of suspension, solution grouting. The laboratory model tests such as permeation, solidification tests are performed to find injection effects by the injection pressure, soil condition. And environmental effects of the grouting materials is analyzed through the heavy-metal leaching tests. From the results, micro cement of suspension grouting superior permeation, solidification injection to Portland cement, and phosphoric acid and sodium hydrogen carbonate in solution grouting were similar to micro cement of suspension grouting. When compare to strength of grouted soils, micro cement of suspension grouting showed high compression strength to Portland cement. While, solution grouting showed very low compression strength comparing suspension grouting. Also, in the heavy-metal leaching tests results were satisfied with the environmental regulation standard for raw grouting materials and grouted soil by 7, 14, 28days curing.
Grouting materials in rock is grouted as vein type along the fault surface by the other way for soil and allow a change of characteristics in rock faults as a result of that. Therefore the deformation characteristics of rock faults after grouting differ as a direction and characteristic of grouted fault and stress condition of field rock. Thereby it must be analyzed the effect for deformation of rock according to characteristics of rock faults and characteristics of grouting materials to accurately evaluate the reinforced effect by grouting. But grouting method used in field until present depends on experience of workers, and inspection for those effects are evaluated by measurement of elastic wave velocity, permeability tests and etc. in field. In this study, it was investigated that the effects for shear characteristics of maximum shear strength, residual shear strength and etc. by comparison and analysis of test results which were worked by direct shear tests of rock faults with changing a type of grouting materials and the grouting depth(t) for average width(a) of fault surface roughness when OPC(Ordinary Portland Cement) and Micro cement was grouted in fault surface of field rock to evaluate characteristicsof the shear deformation for rock fault surface of dam by grouting.
