In this study, laboratory mixture design test and field test were performed to evaluate applicability of eco-friendly binder material (CMD-SOIL) using desulfurized dust in deep cement mixing method (DCM). As a result of laboratory mixture design test, the uniaxial compressive strength of CMD-SOIL was up to 1.136 times bigger than slag cement by changing the water content, mixing rate, and W/B. Also, it had shown the strength up to 1.222 times bigger in shell content and up to 1.363 times in mixing of floating soil. As a result of field test, field strength/laboratory design criterion strength ratio (${\lambda}$) is shown 0.77. And this result was similar to earlier studies. From this result, CMD-SOIL can show the same efficiency compared with existing binder.

This study investigated to recycle geobond and ash produced in thesewage sludge incinerator using reduction/stabilization. Nonsintering process was performed by binding cement (High Early Strength Portland cement, Micro cement), geobond and sand mixed with sewage sludge ash (SSA). Chemical ingradients of the sewage sludge ash was mainly composed of $SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, $Fe_2O_3$, CaO and others, which were similar to those of the each binders consisting High Early Strength Portland cement, Micro cement and geobond. Results showed that unconfined the long term compressive strength could be obtained components of sewage sludge ash. It exceeded more than double score 64.6 MPa of the Korean standard ($22.54MPa=229.7kg/cm^2$). Microstructure of solidified block for the different admixture was related to the compressive strength according to SEM analysis. Optimum mixing range of the sewage sludge ash to each binders were found to be 10~40% which can widly safely regulate the confined a long term compressive strength. The best binder of long term compressive strengh was revealed Geobond more than High Early Strength Portland cement and Micro cement. This study revealed the sewage sludge ash can be partial replacement of the inorganic binder & application block for recycling.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the optimal mix design of the sound absorption material that is made from perlite and various binder systems for noise barrier wall. The polymer cement slurry which is made from two types of polymer dispersions, and silicone type inorganic material are used as binder. The test specimens are prepared with various polymer cement ratios, binder ratios, and tested for strengths, freezing and thawing and sound absorption performance by the tube and the reverberation room methods. From the test results, the difference of sound absorption coefficient by the tube method is a little recognized, however, noise reduction coefficient (NRC) of test specimens bound by the polymer cement slurry is in the ranges of 0.48 to 0.51. They are a little higher than those bound by cement only, and are lower values than recommended value of 0.7 by the Ministry of Environment. However, the sound absorption coefficient of test specimens at low frequency range of 250 to 500 Hz by reverberation room method shows very high values as 0.84 to 1.00, and 0.57 to 0.77 at the high frequency. The test specimens with polymer cement slurry binder have a good balance between performance and cost, and have proper properties in strengths, freezing and thawing resistance as sound absorption material for noise barrier wall. It is apparent that the good sound absorption material can be produced according to the optimum mix design that is recommended from this study.

Recently, there has been a growing interest in the development of non-sintered binder to reduce CO2 emissions from the cement clinker manufacturing process and a number of studies have been conducted on fly ashes as an industrial by-product. However, in order to utilize fly ashes as a non-sintered binder, it is necessary to solve problems such as safety issues and economical efficiency due to use of an alkali activator. This study evaluates the material properties and compressive strength characteristics of three types of circulating fluidized bed boiler ashes. As a result, it was confirmed that the characteristics of each binder vary depending on the location of the power plant and the types of raw materials. In addition, it has been confirmed that the fluidized bed boiler ash shows a high compressive strength and can be used sufficiently as an non-sintered binder.
This research aimed to investigate the influence of high-volume mineral admixtures (MAs), i.e., fly ash and slag, on the hydration characteristics and microstructures of cement pastes. Degree of cement hydration was quantified by the loss-on-ignition technique and degree of pozzolanic reaction was determined by a selective dissolution method. The influence of MAs on the pore structure of paste was measured by mercury intrusion porosimetry. The results showed that the hydration properties of the blended pastes were a function of water to binder ratio, cement replacement level by MAs, and curing age. Pastes containing fly ash exhibited strongly reduced early strength, especially for mix with 45% fly ash. Moreover, at a similar cement replacement level, slag incorporated cement paste showed higher degrees of cement hydration and pozzolanic reaction than that of fly ash incorporated cement paste. Thus, the present study demonstrates that high substitution rates of slag for cement result in better effects on the short- and long-term hydration properties of cement pastes.
PURPOSES : This study deals with the working life of polymer concrete, which is typically used as a repair or overlay material for portland cement concrete pavements. METHODS : In the scope of this study, laboratory testing was conducted on fresh MMA modified UP polymer concrete, which uses an MMA monomer for viscosity adjustment and strength improvement of UP resin. The experimental variables were temperature (-20 to $+20^{\circ}C$) and binder components (MMA, MEKPO, and DMA). RESULTS : The result showed that the optimum binder ratios for polymer concrete production were 12, 11, and 10 wt.% when the MMA contents were 20, 30, and 40 wt.%, respectively. The working life of polymer concrete depending on temperature and binder components could be expressed by a logarithmic functional formula. The coefficient of variation for each binder component was the highest for DMA content while the lowest for MEKPO content. Also, the contents of each binder component for ensuring the working life of 60 minutes were proposed. CONCLUSIONS : Ultimately, the present study derived a linear regression equation estimating 60 minutes working life based on the setting times of each binder component.
The purpose of this study is to increase the use of Hwangto and examine the strength according to what it is compounded with. Hwangto-concrete containing Hwanto without cement nor organic chemical products were compared to the traditional cement concrete through some durability experiments. We expect to gain more knowledge on the potentials of Hwangto-concrete as an architectural source. 1) As Hwangto binder amount rises, the value of slump increases too. The reason is that the increase of the quantity of cement causes the increase of the amount of material and the decrease of the amount of aggregate. 2) When the mixed component into Hwangto-concrete remains at 2%, the compress strength is generally dispersed high along the per unit fission, in case the amount of which is at $400(g/m^3)$. The highest compress strength is 39MPa. It means that it can be applied to common structures and we need to conduct a basic property test to ensure the strength and fluidness. 3) Hwangto-concrete is expected to be highly used in the ocean structure and chemical industry because it has better resistance to sulfuric acid and to hydrochloric acid than the cement-concrete has. The result of this study is as follows. It is expected that Hwangto-concrete will be widely applied and further research on its durability and tests for its basic substantial characteristics based on future component added to it.
The importance of using materials cost effectively to enhance the strength and reduce the cost, and weight of earth fill materials in geotechnical engineering led researchers to seek for modifying the soil properties by adding proper additives. Lightweight fill materials made of soil, binder, water, and Expanded polystyrene (EPS) beads are increasingly being used in geotechnical practices. This paper primarily investigates the behavior of sandy soil, modified by EPS particles. Besides, the mechanical properties of blending sand, EPS and the binder material such as fly ash and cement were examined in different mixing ratios using a number of various laboratory studies including the Modified Standard Proctor (MSP) test, the Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) test, the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test and the Direct Shear test (DST). According to the results, an increase of 0.1% of EPS results in a reduction of the density of the mixture for 10%, as well as making the mixture more ductile rather than brittle. Moreover, the compressive strength, CBR value and shear strength parameters of the mixture decreases by an increase of the EPS beads, a trend on the contrary to the increase of cement and fly ash content.

High strength concretes utilizing EVA with micro particles were prepared by varying polymer/binder mass ratio and curing conditions with a constant water/binder mass ratio of 0.3. The EVA modified concretes on the compressive and flexural strength, microstructure, ultrapulse modulus in curing condition(dry and water curing) were studied. Also, scanning electron microscope analysis(SEM) was performed to reveal the presence of polymer film and cement hydrates in the concrete. The compressive strength of the EVA modified concretes cured at water conditions ere higher than that of the EVA modified concretes cured at dry conditions. But, the flexural strength of the specimens cured at dry conditions were higher than that of the specimens cured at water conditions. Due to the interaction of the cement hydrates and polymer film, an interpenetrating network originated in which the aggregates were embedded. The curing of the polymer modified concrete involves two step of cement hydrates and polymer modification, and cement hydrates was promoted in water conditions and polymer film formation take place when water evaporates and was thereby was favored in dry conditions. By SEM analysis, influences of polymer modification was strengthening of the transition zone between the aggregate and the paste, and the porosity of transition zone decreases. By spring analysis, it could known that polymer film affects in porosity decrease and strengthening of transition zone.
Due to the recent environmental problems, lots of studies on the solutions to reduce the environmental pollutions are on the way. In the field of construction, concrete that we are currently consuming approximately 1 ton each year is the most common and cheap building material. We must cut down on this preoccupied use of this material and develop an alternative material as recommended by the late environmental standards. In this regard, this study propose the 'yellow soil' as the main substance that composes the final state, 'yellow soil concrete'. This study also aims to analyze the physical and chemical performances of this concrete mixed with the yellow soil by comparing it with the cement and assesses the possibility of its application to the cement. The results of the experiment shows that, assuming the solidity of the cement concrete to be around $210kg/cm^2$ (20.58MPa), the solidity of the yellow soil combined material may be around 45%~55% in terms of the range of W/B use, 200 to 400 in the per unit fission amount and less than 2% in the addition proportion of admixing agents. But the scope of the optimal concoction amount of the yellow soil concrete should better be limited as following. 40% to 50% in W/B, 300 to 400 in the per unit fission amount and less than 2% in the addition of admixing agents.
