  • This work is proposed an alternative identification method of outlying cell which is one of important issues in categorical data analysis. One finds that there is a strong relationship between the location of an outlying cell and the corresponding parameter estimates of the well-fitted log-linear model. Among parameters of log-linear model, an outlying cell is affected by interaction terms rather than main effect terms. Hence one could identify an outlying cell by investigating of parameter estimates in an appropriate log-linear model.

  • This study is intended to develop a Feature based modeler. It is difficult to integrate CAD and CAM/CAPP with information that is given only by a conventional CAD system. Therefore a lot of studies have concentrated on a Feature based CAD system. But conventional Feature based modelers have had limitation on providing sufficient information related to Feature interaction. If a Feature based modeler is to be used in assembly simulation, a new Feature-based modeling method needs to be developed. Also to support collision detection between parts, we have to handle Feature interaction systematically. Therefore we suggest Cell data structure which handles interaction of Features by volume. The volume created by Feature interaction is saved as a Cell. With the Cell structure we solve problems involved with Feature interaction. This study shows how the Cell data structure can manage Feature interaction and give enough information in assembly simulation.

  • Recent advancement of micro/nano technology enables the development of diverse micro/nano particle-based delivery systems. Due to the multi-functionality and engineerability, particle-based delivery system are expected to be a promising method for delivery to the target cell. Since the particle-based delivery system should be delivered to the various kinds of target cell, including the cardiovascular system, cancer cell etc., it is frequently decorated with multiple kinds of targeting molecule(s) to induce specific interaction to the target cell. The surface decorated molecules interact with the cell surface expressed molecule(s) to specifically form a firm adhesion. Thus, in this study, the probability of adhesion is estimated to predict the possibility to form a firm adhesion for the multi-ligand decorated particle-based delivery system.

  • This article reviews recent developments in the emerging field of cellular-level biomedical ultrasonics with the specific focus on the mechanics of ultrasound-cell interaction. Due to the nature of the field at its relative infancy, the review poses more questions than it provides answers. Discussed are topics such as the basic structure of a biological cell, the origin of cell's elasticity, a theoretical framework for ultrasound-cell interaction, and shape deformation of cells and its measurement, Some interesting problems for future study are proposed.

  • The case of proportional cell frequencies for the two-way cross-classification with interaction is considered. Several types of hypotheses for the general unbalanced data that are commonly used in the literature are shown, and they are written out for this particular case. A reparameterized form of the cell means model is defined to establish the reparameterized model, and orthogonal property of the model is shown using the augmented matrix and the numerator sums of squares are computed. Different ways of producing the same analysis of variance tables are shown in both orthogonal and nonorthogonal situations.

  • The theoretical framework of the interaction fields for multiple scales based on field theory is applied to one-dimensional problem mimicking dislocation substructure sensitive intra-granular inhomogeneity evolution under fatigue of Cu-added steels. Three distinct scale levels corresponding respectively to the orders of (A)dislocation substructures, (B)grain size and (C)grain aggregates are set-up based on FE-RKPM (reproducing kernel particle method) based interpolated strain distribution to obtain the incompatibility term in the interaction field. Comparisons between analytical conditions with and without the interaction, and that among different cell size in the scale A are simulated. The effect of interaction field on the B-scale field evolution is extensively examined. Finer and larger fluctuation is demonstrated to be obtained by taking account of the field interactions. Finer cell size exhibits larger field fluctuation whereas the coarse cell size yields negligible interaction effects.

  • The interaction between dual-ligand decorated particle-based delivery system and target cell under shear flow is predicted using probability model developed. We assumed the two kinds of ligand are decorated on the surface of the particle with 10% length difference. Fixed with other biophysical parameters, a study on the particle-cell interaction for the different non-specific interaction parameter is performed. To induce the firm adhesion, short ligand-receptor should be engaged. Also, it is shown that the rational design of ligand-receptor interaction, including receptor number, specific interaction parameter, kinds of ligand-receptor, etc., should be considered.

  • Cell-cell and cell-matrix interaction is clearly required for metazoans not only to hold their cells together but also to conduct more sophisticated biological processes. Each cell has adhesion molecules on its cell membrane to link extracellular matrix and adjacent cells to the intracellular cytoskeleton, and also to transduce signals. In complex metazoans, information is transmitted from one cell to another by mechanisms such as direct intercellular communication, soluble signal molecules among distant cells, and local cellular environments formed by highly specialized extracellular matrix. • The cell spheroid (multicellular mass) is enhanced cell functions because of the cell-cell interaction compared with the individual cell. The objective of this study is synthesis, characterization and evaluation of novel crosslinkers to form spheroid in a short time. Our approach to bridge cells is based on the crosslinking of the cell membrane via the hydrophobic interaction. The crosslinker was prepared by the reaction between ethylenediamine and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) derivative with oleyl group as hydrophobic group at the terminal group. The product was characterized with gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and FT-IR. Furthermore, cell culture experiment was also performed to confirm spheroid formation. The function of prepared spheroids was evaluated.
