Among the fuel cell system, solid oxide fuel eels is constructed of ceramics, so stack construction is simple , power density is very high, and there is no corrosion problems. The purpose of this research is investigate the characteristics of unit cell for SOFC .
In this paper, a unit cell for low pass filter design by using composite right and left-handed transmission line in conductor-backed coplanar waveguide is proposed. The characteristics of the unit cell are analyzed in order to design a low pass filter in small sizes. By changing the sizes of the unit cell, the parameters of right-handed and left-handed immittance components are changed and the desired characteristics of the unit cell are achieved. The equivalent circuit of the unit cell is extracted and analyzed either. As a result, the simulation results of the unit cell and the equivalent circuit are almost identified. The movement and energy distributions of electromagnetic field are shown to confirm the property of the unit cell. In the end, a low pass filter is demonstrated by cascading three proposed unit cells, which shows cutoff frequency of 1.53GHz and deep attenuation from 2.23GHz to 4.49GHz lower than -50dB.

This paper presents an advanced dynamic simulation model of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell for the optimal design of a fuel cell power conditioning system (FC-PCS). For the development of fuel cell models, the dynamic characteristics of the fuel cell are considered, including its static characteristics. Then, software fuel cell simulation is realized using Matlab-Simulink. Specifically, the design consideration of PCS (i.e., power semiconductor switch, capacitor, and inductor) is discussed by comparatively analyzing the developed simulator and ideal DC source. In addition, a cosimulation between the fuel cell model and PCS realized using the PSIM software is performed with the help of the SimCoupler module. Detailed analysis and informative simulation results are provided for the optimal design of fuel cell PCS.

Human embryonic stem (hES) cells have unique features including unlimited growth capacity, expression of specific markers, normal karyotypes and an ability to differentiate. Many investigators have tried to use hES cells for cell-based therapy, but there is little information about the properties of available hES cell lines. We compared the characteristics of three hES cell lines. The expression of SSEA-1, -3, -4, and APase, was examined by immunocytochemistry, and Oct-4 expression was analyzed by RT-PCR. Differentiation of the hES cells in vitro and in vivo led to the formation of embryoid bodies (EBs) or teratomas. We examined the expression of tissue-specific markers in the differentiated cells by semiquantitative RT-PCR, and the ability of each hES cell line to proliferate was measured by flow cytometry of DNA content and ELISA. The three hES cell lines were similar in morphology, marker expression, and teratoma formation. However there were significant differences (P < 0.05) between the differentiated cells formed by the different cell lines in levels of expression of tissue-specific markers such as renin, kallikrein, Glut-2, ${\beta}-$ and ${\delta}-globin$, albumin, and ${\alpha}1-antitrypsin$ (${\alpha}1-AT$). The hES cell lines also differed in proliferative activity. Our observations should be useful in basic and clinical hES cell research.

Particularly the photovoltaic systems are preferred because the output is extracted to the useful electric energy. However, the output characteristics of photovoltaic(PV) systems using solar cell or array depend on the weather conditions. The assistant equipment which emulates the solar cell characteristics that can be controlled arbitrarily by researcher is required to the researchers for reliable experimental data. To solve these problems, it is necessary to research a solar cell model of which output characteristics varied by setting the weather conditions such as insolation levels and temperatures. Therefore, this paper was presented that improved model which is based on interpolation model. To verified the improved model, it is confirmed using the simulation of MATLAB. Also, the experiment was performed by the characteristics of virtual implemented solar cell(VISC) system with the proposed solar cell model. It could be confirmed that there exists actual ewer within 5% between actual solar cell and VISC system.

The transient power characteristics of a PEM fuel cell stack was experimentally studied using a commercial 1.2kW PEM fuel cell ($Nexa^{TM}$ Power Module, Ballard Power System Inc.). The conditions in PEM fuel cell stack such as temperature and water content change rather slowly because of their large heat capacity and long channel length, which results in long transient time to converge to a steady state. The steady characteristics of the PEM fuel cell module was determined first, followed by the measurement of its transient characteristics upon stepwise and continuous load current changes. During the stepwise current change from 5A to 25A, the output voltage initially decreased below the steady voltage and then increased gradually. Similar behavior was also observed for the stepwise current change from 25A to 5A. This transient behavior is explained with reference to the evolution of the temperature and water content of the PEM fuel cell stack.

A dual-mode power management for a hybrid-electric UAV with a cruise power of 200W is proposed and empirically verified. The subject vehicle is a low-speed long-endurance UAV powered by a solar cell, a fuel cell, and a battery pack, which operate in the same voltage bounds. These power sources of different operational characteristics can be managed in two different methods: passive management and active management. This study proposes a new power management system named PMS2, which employs a bypass circuit to control the individual power sources. The PMS2 normally operates in active mode, and the bypass circuit converts the system into passive mode when necessary. The output characteristics of the hybrid system with the PMS2 are investigated under simulated failures in the power sources and the conversion of the power management methods. The investigation also provides quantitative comparisons of efficiencies of the system under the two distinct power management modes. In the case of the solar cell, the efficiency difference between the active and the passive management is shown to be 0.34% when the SOC of the battery is between 25-65%. However, if the SOC is out of this given range, i.e. when the SOC is at 90%, using active management displays an improved efficiency of 6.9%. In the case of the fuel cell, the efficiency of 55% is shown for both active and passive managements, indicating negligible differences.
Aragonite is one of polymorphs of calcium carbonate of which main form is calcite. We found that white precipitate is formed in much amount by boiling underwater of Inchon, Korea and confirmed that it is aragonite. This study is to evaluate the dimensional characteristics, solubility, acid resistance of aragonite and the cytotoxicity, cell division disturbance and cell transforming ability of it on BALB/3T3 cells. The results are as follows: Lengths of the aragonite were reduced to the 72.7% and 22.7% respectively after 5 months and 7 months of intrapleurai injection to the Sprague-Dawley rat. Strong acid such as 1M HCl dissolved the aragonite instantly but weaker acid pH 2.0 or more could not dissolved aragonite easily. The result of cell growth inhibition showed that cell numbers were decreased as log-doses of treatment of the aragonite were increased 24 hours, 48 hours, and 72 hours later. Cell plating efficiency after the aragonite treatment also showed dose-dependent decrease. Multinuclear giant cell formation was increased in the aragonite treated cells until ID$_{50}$ and after the dose the multinucleate cells were decreased, but remained much higher than negative control cells. Morphological transformation assay showed that the aragonite did not induce transformation in all treated doses.
The electro-optic polarization transmission characteristics of a liquid crystal (LC) cell is represented by a rotational transformation on the Poincare sphere, and its characteristic parameters, the angle and the axis of the rotation, are experimentally determined with respect to the voltage applied to the LC cell. From the experimental data obtained, we determine driving voltage for the LC cell to give the rotation angle near $180^{\circ}$ of the rotation for the change of the state of the LC cell from non-select to select state, which is a necessary condition for the realization of maximally bright images. The directions of the transmission axes of the polarizer and the analyzer which form a liquid crystal display panel together with the LC cell, are determined from the general characteristics of the rotaional transformation of the LC cell. cell.

The FFS (fringe-field switching) mode was known to exhibit both a wide viewing angle and high transmittance, especially when using a liquid crystal with negative dielectric anisotropy. We have studied cell gap-dependent electrode-optic characteristics of the FFS mode using the LC with negative dielectric anisotropy. In case of a small cell gap of 2 ${\mu}$m, the transmittance at the center of pixel and common electrodes is relatively low because effect of surface anchoring that holds the LC to the initial state is larger than that in a large cell gap of 4 .urn such that the LCs in those regions cannot rotate enough. However, in case of a large cell gap of 4 .urn, the effect of surface anchoring becomes relatively small so that the LCs at the center of pixel and common electrode can be twisted enough by applied voltage, giving rise to high transmittance. Therefore, we can conclude that the light efficiency is dependent on the cell gap.
