$LaBO_3$ (B = Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, and Ni) perovskites, the most common perovskite-type mixed ionic-electronic conductors (MIECs), are promising candidates for intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cell (IT-SOFC) cathodes. The catalytic activity on MIEC-based cathodes is closely related to the bulk ionic conductivity. Doping B-site cations with other metals may be one way to enhance the ionic conductivity, which would also be sensitively influenced by the chemical composition of the dopants. Here, using density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we quantitatively assess the activation energies of bulk oxide ion diffusion in $LaBO_3$ perovskites with a wide range of combinations of B-site cations by calculating the oxygen vacancy formation and migration energies. Our results show that bulk oxide ion diffusion dominantly depends on oxygen vacancy formation energy rather than on the migration energy. As a result, we suggest that the late transition metal-based perovskites have relatively low oxygen vacancy formation energies, and thereby exhibit low activation energy barriers. Our results will provide useful insight into the design of new cathode materials with better performance.
The use of dry chemical powder has been increased as it can be stored for a long period and sustain in stable condition compared to gas or liquid phase extinguishing agents. A new type of dry chemical powder using Zeolite was produced in the research. Chemical powder was adsorbed into Zeolite 13X, a porous material appearing negative catalytic effect, to create extinguishing powder obtaining core shell structure and measured physical properties and run a small scale fire extinguishment. SEM, XRD, TA analysis was also executed, and extinguishing characteristics were measured by fire extinguishing experiment on oil pool fire. The experiment showed that the average particle size of Zeolite 13X was equivalent, indicating about $3{\pm}1{\mu}m$ and thermal analysis result illustrated that Zeolite 13X showed exothermic reaction peaks at $900^{\circ}C$ due to solid-state transformation. Extinguishing characteristics on oil fire of $NaHCO_3$/Zeolite 13X and $NH_4H_2PO_4$/Zeolite were improved, influenced by adsorbed extinguishing powders on Zeolite 13X and Zeolite 13X that contains high phase transition temperature.

As a green and abundant source of energy, H2 has attracted the attention of researchers for use in different applications. Nevertheless, it is highly flammable, and because of its significantly small size, extreme attention is needed to detect its leakage. In this review, we discuss different effects of noble metals on the H2 gas response and performance of metal oxide-based gas sensors. In this regard, we discuss the effects of noble metals, in combination with metal oxides, on H2 gas detection. The catalytic activity towards H2 gas and the formation of heterojunctions with metal oxides are the main contributions of noble metals to the sensing improvement of H2 gas sensors. Furthermore, in the special case of Pd and somewhat Pt, the formation of PdHx and PtHx also affects the H2 sensing performance. This review paper provides useful information for researchers working in the field of H2 gas detection.
A biosensor for the determination of hydrogen peroxide was constructed by immobilizing of porcine small instestinal tissue in a plain carbon paste, and the effect of varying the $H_2O_2$ concentration and pH on the rate of catalytic reaction was evaluated. For the mathematical simplicity, no mediator was added. Electrochemical properties and the maximal rate could be derived from the quantitative analysis of the observed phenomena related to the electrode reaction. Also, pH dependence of the Michaelis constant enabled to calculate various thermodynamic parameters and subsequently to design a electrochemical method to determine the optimum pH of enzyme.
Accelerated aging of engine exhaust system components such as catalytic converters are traditionally performed using an engine/dynamometer test stand. $SwRI^{(R)}'s\;FOCAS^{(R)}$ system reduces or eliminates many of the engine based aging limitations. This paper will describe several studies. These include: 1) replication of engine based catalyst aging cycles with added precision and dependability; 2) catalyst aging with and without lubricating oil effects; 3) effects of lubricant phosphorus on catalyst performance; and 4) the potential to thermally age components beyond the capabilities of engine based systems. The first study includes the development of the SwRI FOCAS system to run programmed aging conditions with or without lubricating oil. A description of the subsystems is given. The second two studies used the SwRI FOCAS system to age catalysts. One study compared thermal-only aging using of the SwRI FOCAS system with equivalent aging on a traditional engine/dynamometer test stand. The other study examined the effect on catalyst performance of two lubricating oils containing different levels of phosphorus, and compared the results to field data generated using the same oils in a fleet of vehicles.

This work discusses a two-step electroless plating method for preparing a Pt thin film on p-type InGaAs substrate, which is defined as Pt I and Pt II. A thin Pt catalytic layer formed in Pt I bath on the substrate at $65^{\circ}C$. In the following Pt II bath, thick Pt films then easily grew on the sensitized layer on InGaAs previously formed in the Pt I bath. The growth of Pt film is strongly influenced by the plating temperature and pH value. To study the plating time effect, the plating of Pt II bath is 5 to 40 min at $80^{\circ}C$ after using Pt I bath at 50~$65^{\circ}C$ for 5min of pH 8~13. Pt film for ohmic contact to p-type InGaAs was successfully prepared by using the two-step Pt electroless plating.

The interferon-induced, double-stranded RNA (dsRNA)-dependent protein kinase PKR plays a key role in interferon-mediated host defense against viral infection, and is implicated in cellular transformation and apoptosis. We have isolated a cDNA of simian PKR encoding a product with 83% amino acid identity to the human homolog and showed that PKR expression is significantly attenuated in the Vero E6 African green monkey kidney cells devoid of type I interferon genes. A variant form of PKR lacking the exon 12 in the kinase domain is produced in these cells, presumably from an alternatively spliced transcript. Unlike wild type PKR, the variant protein named PKR-${\Delta}E12$ is incapable of auto-phosphorylation and phosphorylation of eIF2-${\alpha}$, indicating that the kinase sub-domains III and IV embedded in exon 12 are indispensable for catalytic function. PKR-${\Delta}E12$ had no dominant negative effect but was weakly phosphorylated in trans by wild type PKR.
The production of IPA from the oxidation of MX is completed under the catalysis of $H_3PW_{12}O_{40}$ (HPW) loaded on carbon and cobalt. Oxalic acid is tried to modify the carbon to upgrade the catalytic activity of HPW@C catalyst. The experiments show that the best carbon is acquired by carbonizing the carbon at $450^{\circ}C$ for 2 h in $N_2$ after being soaked in a $0.20mol\;l^{-1}$ oxalic acid solution for 16 h. The IPA produced by the HPW@C catalysts prepared with the carbon modified is 58.9% over that obtained by the catalysts prepared with the original carbon.

In this study, we examined the effect of NO addition on the ozone-induced soot oxidation activity of $LaMnO_3$ perovskite catalysts. The addition of 10~20% NO ($NO_2$) with respect to the concentration of ozone effectively enhanced the rate of ozone-induced soot oxidation rate over $LaMnO_3$. However, the excessive addition of NO ($NO_2$) was detrimental to ozone-induced soot oxidation activity. It is supposed nitrogen oxides would adsorb on the catalyst and then react with carbon-oxygen species developed on soot surface, but an excessive addition of nitrogen oxide would inhibit the formation of carbon-oxygen species, which is a key intermediate in the reaction, and consequently suppress the oxidation rate of soot.
